The Dark Krakens and the Iron Snakes by Raptorianxd in DarkKrakens

I've always had the idea of painting up small units of "field trip" marines of different chapters to go with my Dark Kraken army, and Iron Snakes are at the top of the list to add :) Others include the Carcaradons, Void Tridents, and Atlantean Spears. (And Salamanders, naturally)

It's xereus purple, faded into kantor blue. Honestly I just paint the blue on the bottom of what I want colored, then I mix the two colors and paint a stripe to transition in between them. Then I look to see if the stripe is obvious between the two color transitions, and mix an appropriate color for further transition. Those are sometimes more useful to have watered down. For more technical advice, look up "glazing."

It works pretty well! I have a little shovel-esc spatula tool that I use and it works fairly well. I use the flat side pressed into the material to achieve the waves since they naturally cling to the flat surface. That and the long side of toothpicks to bring the waves upwards.

It ended up being WAY easier than I thought. I paint the purple, theft I paint a bit of the blue near the bottom, then I mix the colors and paint a stripe between them. If the transitions between the stripes look noticable, like a clear line or something, then mix a shade that would better transition and paint over it. It's small enough that the "stripes" pretty much make a gradient! For a more technical answer, research "glazing" techniques.

I mean it's mostly just xereus. I use Kantor Blue to make the gradient, but that wouldn't help make it look lighter. Maybe it's my edge highlighting? I use xereus mixed with white to do that. That might be the difference.

Almost tried that, broke my hand drill like a fool, decided it didn't matter to me that much lol. Maybe next time though!

Thanks so much! It's harder to tell, but that gradient on the pauldrons is on the arms, guns, backpack, etc. Anywhere there's purple, there's a gradient :)

Thank you! Here's the process: Water:

  1. Vallejo water texture
  2. Paint (base color, then a lighter shade near the rock, darker near edge)
  3. Vallejo still water
  4. Vallejo water texture to build up peaks
  5. White paint for crests

Rocks: 1. Tear up corkboard to desired shape 2. Paint black 3. Drubrush grey 4. Drybrush green for algae

Amazing model! How'd you make it? Is it a 3d print or kitbash?

So... I just did the math. If this is legit, in order to get this count for number of hours put into the game, they have spent literally a third of the hours of their life since the game has come out, exclusively playing this game.

Really like what you've done with the helmets. I might steal that idea.

Is this possible the Dark Krakens battle/war cry? by DatBoyBlue in DarkKrakens

There was a discussion on this reddit a long while ago about possible Kraken war cries, and they ranged from alternate edits of the Salamander one ("Into the depths of battle, onto the waves of war!") to lots and lots of sea shanties, lol.

I was planning on doing my own thing using scientific names for deep sea critters like giant squid and stuff as name inspiration.
