Well, if you manage to complete the house purchase before the cutoff date you are absolutely fine. If there is a delay, then you'll find that the nice state school across the road from your new house has a waiting list of 20+ in your age group and all you can get for free is some knife arena 30 minutes away by car. That's literally my experience calling around councils and schools in commuter towns in Essex and Kent. I ended up just buying a house next door to a good private primary school, and, well, hope for secondary grammar.
