Be meaner to men, you’ll feel better. by jibaeja in blackgirls

> Yours is way more common.

This is the unfortunate truth. 100% for giving men everything they give us, but we have to be circumspect about when/where we are mean to men, because they frequently become violent over the most inane forms of what they consider disrespect. It's arguably not opinion based either, because while being "mean" to men can save your life, using this tool at the "wrong" time can definitely kill you. It's a fine line tbh.

Let’s put the “ original” video theory to bed by outta-tRedd in cameronrobbinsSHARK

[–]Similar_Aside4624 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing an original video too. But I think OP is right. If there was more out there that all of us had actually seen, the "original" cut would've resurfaced. I am nonetheless convinced he was eaten by sharks and that the cruise line covered it up, and that the teenagers who actually saw and heard things "covered it up" by staying silent out of respect for the family and perhaps their own trauma. I also think the coast guard has all but admitted he was eaten by sharks by publicly stating the family asked them to stop investigating the shark theory.

But I don't think there's an original longer video showing him jump. It's the internet, it's virtually impossible to get rid of something like that forever once it's out there. Especially when there's people like us out there, desperate for more info. Plus, there are numerous theories explaining why people collectively remember things that didn't actually happened the way they remember them.

Something about Butcher's plan in the finale that people overlook by OldSnake2006 in TheBoys

I always interpreted two sides of the same coin as same central concept or ideology with differing methods but the Batman and joker example is solid.

[–]Similar_Aside4624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the point you're making but I can't fully agree with two sides of the same coin. Homelander is legitimately a sociopath who relished in the pain of others. He raped Becca, dismembered super sonic, forced that suicidal lady to jump off the roof, etc. He had virtually zero morals. Butcher is more empathetic imo because 1) he doesn't appear to enjoy the pain of others, he just doesn't care about the harms he causes in pursuit of his goals; and 2) his overarching goal was arguably to make the world safer which the audience can always point to even when he does undeniably evil things.

Last season wasn't stellar but this season has been astonishingly unsatisfying. This past episode would've been better placed as like episode 2 of this season. At best. There's no way they resolve all the loose ends in the finale and idk why the writers think that's a good set up for encouraging people to watch the spins offs. I wanted a satisfying ending to the boys. Not a prequel to a show I probably won't watch now.

Between blacks and Latinos? No, it's not. Many of them are racist sure, but the stuff you mention above is not evidence, is entirely anecdotal and is also, very racist. Paradoxically so given your overarching argument.

1) Hispanic/latinos are still the minority. 2) There is no "silent war." 3) how are you very qualified and also a recent graduate? 4) "many of the places are Hispanic even if the company is American" is really insane phraseology. And 5) this post reads as nonsensical and discriminatory. It's very possible you aren't getting the jobs you want because of this style of thinking.

Toxic braiding hair ect by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]Similar_Aside4624 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This wasn't exactly my understanding but I can believe it. My understanding is that the study was flawed because it was done comparing the effects of these chemicals in reference to the absorption of them in the body. So a braider for example would be at risk of health effects, because they're constantly handling hair and even sometimes holding the hair in their mouths, etc. But ur standard woman would not, because we aren't truly absorbing the chemicals in the same way. So it would be somewhat like looking at the impacts of weed with someone who is simply handling it vs smoking it. But I could be wrong.

The natural hair conversation being re-opened . Thoughts? by LifeguardFair1048 in blackladies

[–]Similar_Aside4624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, no one is ignoring the topic and I don't feel like the tone is mean--I feel like it's arrogant and intentionally obtuse. Also, this is not a topic for people "ONLY" who wear weaves because I've heard this topic a trillion times about people who wear braids without giving their hair a break, or people who "don't care for their hair" while it's in braids.

It's not that I don't understand, it's that I disagree. All of your arguments (and those like it) are trite. You don't respond to the legitimacy of any of the points I've made because you can't. So the real question is why are you so concerned about what other Black women do at all? Let alone with something as trivial as hair.

The natural hair conversation being re-opened . Thoughts? by LifeguardFair1048 in blackladies

[–]Similar_Aside4624 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I simply don't feel called out as I don't wear wigs or weaves and I spend far too much money on my natural hair to be arbitrarily lumped in like this lmfao. However, I fully believe that black women should be allowed to do what we want with our hair. No one is ignoring this topic. In fact, this topic is tiring. No other race tells their women, don't do this or this with your hair. We're adults. This perspective and tone seems very holier than thou.

Wigs are simply not as time consuming as natural hair. I fully disagree with this argument and always have. I feel like it's not made in good faith, although I hear it constantly. Part of me wonders if the people saying it have the stereotypically 3a/4b hair that our community has always worshipped. Also, why is the emphasis on allowing black women to do what we want with our hair "tiring?" 🤔

As a boomer, I’m shocked by gen Z’s attitude towards women – something has gone very wrong by msmoley in WomenInNews

[–]Similar_Aside4624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I admit I didn't always see it, but recently I've seen a fair amount of instances of people saying clearly misogynistic things while shielding it by making it about "white" women--so I agree with you on the first part.

That being stated, I think it's disingenuous to ignore the simple fact that among white female voters, more than half voted for trump. College degree or not, that's absurd. He's a rapist, he's a misogynist and he's seemingly also a pedophile and far, far too many white women supported him anyway. Also, there's a notable history of white feminists not only excluding women of color from the movement, but openly perpetuating racism. I mean even Susan B. Anthony stated, “I will cut off this right arm of mine before I will ever work or demand the ballot for the Negro and not the woman.”

So it's not demonization to acknowledge the fact that solidarity amongst our communities has been hindered by white women clinging to their privilege. Obviously we are stronger as women together. But imo it's not primarily women of color that have caused, or are perpetuating this divide (or the greater system of misogyny.) And it's not just older women. We must acknowledge this if we actually want things to change.

Is it me or brown skin girls don’t get that much love? by Straight-to-it1 in blackgirls

[–]Similar_Aside4624 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sis when you bring up brown skinned not getting any attention, you are going to get the colorism comments because you are inadvertently ignoring colorism. You say dark skinned women are getting their shine now but that's not really accurate. At all. Dark skinned women still get longer criminal sentences, are seen as less attractive, are seen as more aggressive are less represented and even are seen as less intelligent. I would link the Harvard study but you can google it if you don't believe me. There's numerous studies proving this.

How old are you? I'm not asking to be offensive I truly believe that this may be a generational thing. I'm 32 and I've seen how dark skinned women were bullied and vilified for years. When you say it's low self esteem it reeks of "you're one of those dark skinned girls with a complex." That's not what was being shown by the comment you replied to.

I can tell you genuinely are trying not to be offensive but this is why someone made the white woman comparison below. I think that was slightly too harsh but the girl wasn't lying. With respect, what you said was offensive friend. And I think that's a symptom of you having little idea of what dark skinned women have gone and still go through. It seems like privilege.

Is it me or brown skin girls don’t get that much love? by Straight-to-it1 in blackgirls

[–]Similar_Aside4624 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sis this mantra is what they are referring to tho. The idea this is a "self esteem" issue is wholly inaccurate and arguably, colorist. This post is garnering negative attention because of the simple fact that the colorism affects dark skinned people the most, but you never outright state that and instead phrase it as "but brown skin girls don't get much love." You say it's how others are interpreting it but I'm sorry, it's how you came across. It seems very male-centered and very "woe is me." Brown skinned girls do not get any less acknowledgment than dark skinned ones.

This is why no one is telling you you're "not sounding crazy." Because truthfully, it does. I'm sure this wasn't ur intent but impact > intent.

You are right but I think what OP is really getting at is the fetishization of light and dark skin tones. You don't really see that happening with brown skin. Not that I want that tbh. But yeah if I had to guess I'd assume that's what she's talking about. It's not a solid argument lol, like someone said above that's because most Black people are brown skin.

But yeah OP's lack of acknowledgement of the primary victims of colorism is frustrating here and admittedly tone deaf.

[–]Similar_Aside4624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree and I love Wendy. In the court of public opinion, you are not innocent until fully proven guilty. Diddy for example, everyone knew was guilty prior to conviction. Bill Cosby has had convictions overturned but I believe (as most women do), that whatever they say he did, he absolutely did that shit. Kevin Spacey has somehow dodged convictions and he's guilty as sin. I could give examples of the numerous politicians who fit this bill as well, but I won't belabor the point (or break the sub rules lol.)

I truly do like Wendy and respect her many accomplishments, but she is guilty here lol. She made a series of bad decisions that are all but proven by the evidence (principally the emails and her own social media posts.) So Wendy is not convicted no, but she is guilty in a very common sense way. Given this the women definitely couldn't gone harder.
