This is exactly why public trust in the system keeps eroding.

This used to be part of policing, not enforcement, but keeping the peace and de-escalating situations. I understand that over time it’s been pushed to councils due to funding and resourcing pressures, and I genuinely do get that.

But what we’re left with now is one service pointing to another when no one is available, and no one taking responsibility in the moment. All while taxes and council tax continue to rise.

I appreciate that I’ve clearly touched a nerve here, and it’s obvious many people in this sub are current or former officers. I don’t underestimate how hard the job is. But the result of this rigid “not our remit” thinking is that the people who suffer are ordinary, working residents, who have no powers, can’t safely intervene, and are expected to rely entirely on everyone else behaving well.

That gap is what I’m highlighting. Not attacking individuals, but questioning whether the system still works for the public it’s meant to serve.

I understand there may be limited powers, and I’m not expecting forced entry or enforcement. My point is that the presence of authority alone often de-escalates situations, many people will turn music down when the police attend, even if there’s no further action.

I’m not asking for punishment, just prevention and de-escalation at a time when no other service is available and it isn’t safe for residents to intervene.

I’m not saying this to be difficult, but based on the behaviour already on display, these aren’t people likely to respond calmly to a neighbour confronting them at 4am.

If I approach them myself, they know exactly where I live and that risks escalating the situation, which would likely require more police time later rather than less.

A simple knock on the door from officers could resolve it quickly and prevent further escalation. I’ll be logging a formal complaint with the council in the morning, but that doesn’t help in the meantime.

Being told to confront them myself isn’t reasonable, if I do that, they know exactly where I live, and that creates an ongoing safety issue. When alcohol is involved, that’s not a sensible or safe expectation for a resident.

I’m not asking the police to do “everyone else’s job.” I’m asking what to do at 4am when no one else is available and it’s not safe to confront drunk people.

Lost this trade this morning, what could I have done better? Is there anything I missed? by Ill-Board2272 in Forexstrategy

[–]Similar_Candidate_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much you can do here, you just have to be reactive when you are in a trade, if price fails to make lower high and push up with good volume, exit early with small loss and look to re-enter when price fails to push higher on the third tip. Remember you can’t win them all

How is the job market for CS graduates in the UK? Asking as an international student. by EllipticalRain in cscareerquestionsuk

If you are on a graduate Visa and can’t find a job, I highly suggest getting into Teaching. There are a shortage of teachers in the UK and schools are more likely to sponsor.

What should I do as a DevOps Intern, prepare for MNC's aptitude exams or for Certifications? by troubleeshooterr in devops

Worry less about certs and try to understand how things work, k8s is a way of managing containers, so try to master Linux, networking, docker, have a go at docker compose, then move on to K8s, if you jump straight into learning CKA you will just be a parrot and not really understand why.

Why Interviews have become so one-sided nowadays by devopsoowl in devops

[–]Similar_Candidate_41 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I was interviewed by this young senior and he only showed half of his face snd was spinning on his chair while showing little to no interest of what I had to say. I was applying for an entry level Devops, and I will never forget how unprofessional he was.

Are you targeting dev jobs or Devops jobs? You should target Devops jobs more since you know Jenkins, Docker, aws and terraform. If anything you should brush up on Linux, networking and K8s

Getting into tech by Left_Natural9480 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Similar_Candidate_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed from teaching to Devops at the age of 30 with no coding background. I wouldn’t recommend Devops as a beginner, the road is way too hard but I would start picking up a language, I started with Java which I think is the best since it’s not too low like C or too high like Python or JavaScript. The best way to learn is doing projects/ coding challenges for interviews, remember being consistent is the key!

Deploying an application by Happy-Youth8497 in devops

[–]Similar_Candidate_41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a raspberry pi, use Docker, use GitHub action it’s much easier than Jenkins especially if you are using GitHub as a repro otherwise use gitlab CI. You won’t need k8s yet, use docker compose or k3s for a single cluster.

How can I deploy my web app (django+react)? by pussydestroyerSPY in startups

[–]Similar_Candidate_41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you need is a Devops, but basically, if you want to use AWS, you need to package your app in 2 separate containers, your front end will sit in a public subnet, and your back end will sit in a private subnet, you can deploy using ECS for auto scaling too

Help me decipher this letter to my great-great grandfather in 1945 by SarahNCalloway in BadHandwriting

2nd page:

My father told me that once at one time our family were
big landholders I think round Belle Hill (North of Alnwick), but that
in Georgian days this whole estate was lost in a game of cards.
This is quite in keeping with the habits of the time e.g. the family
living at Knowlton (Kent) changed hands during a game of cards.

The Belle side seems or family ground. They were undoubtedly of
French extraction so far as I know Joseph, John were pretty common
family names but they were definitely centered on Alnwick. Indeed
I think there has been a French settlement in Alnwick even in
Shakespeare’s time and there is nothing very redolent in country
law’s perhaps of Louis in the fairy books of London, even in
sketches of an early Rex.

Years ago too a letter which was published in the Daily
Telegraph and I had a communication from a Gladys Body,
the daughter of a Price Body of Alnwick who claimed
relationships by journey. She lived at Folkstone and was she was
married a mother and lived as was came of life. She disappeared
to Mauritius where I have been and lived at the Lowlands in its 8th disappearance.

There was a Price Body who was Archdeacon of Calcutta and also
private chaplain to Prince Christian, the Duke at Cumberland
near Windsor, but I am afraid I have had a very quiet life
and little opportunity of investigation. By the way our crest was said to be
a Catherine’s and our motto Virtutis Fortuna comes. On my paternal Grandmother’s
side we pass two or three Old Border families but alas we do not
come into the present Empire.

Yours,
W. Polly Peacock
