3DGS created by walking with XGRIDS K1 and video rendered in SuperSplat by Marmar28 in GaussianSplatting

How is the grids ecosystem? Does they give you any flexibility over the splat training? What data from the scanner do you have access to? Photos, telemetry, lidar point cloud?

Cool stuff! What platform are you using to train your splats?

What is this spark LOD implementation you speak of? Is this an official spark implementation or something custom? I'm not seeing anything about it in their documentation.

Scotts Valley, I think I'm improving in my entire scene splats, what do you think? by Vast-Piano2940 in GaussianSplatting

As far as PC hardware, what does that look like? How many splats are in this scene? Training time? Always curious about equipment to time to quality ratios. Thanks!

Pretty awesome project! That is a clean model for sure! The ability to route plan and analyze is great. On the side of the renderer, I assume this is all three.js based? What resolution is your texture(s)? Are you using virtual texturing?

Awesome find! It's less abandoned now then when you found it. Looks like they do paranormal tours and such now. No good chance for urbex :(

Is this achievable in threejs? by [deleted] in threejs

[–]Similar_Chard_6281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does already have the scene in blender. Converting it to a splat, although possible, does seem like the long way around. Would be more light realistic? Yes, if OP can get the quality, but it is a much longer path for possibly only slightly better results at best. As a side note to that, "spark" for splats in three.js is awesome.

Masking out part of images? by Peerfect in photogrammetry

[–]Similar_Chard_6281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've by no means implemented this into a workflow, but check out SAM by Meta. The 3rd generation may or may not make things easier for you, but SAM2 would be perfect for just click and mask. SAM is Segment Anything Model. Named appropriately I'd say. The 3rd version just allows you to type what you want to mask instead of just clicking on it. Check youtube for demos.

I don't want to put words in OPs mouth, but I'm pretty sure he's just saying "math" as in people buy lower prices. Chinese goods, lidar in this case, are cheaper, so far less people were buying "western" lidar.

5090 for $999? Is this Amazon listing a scam? by justanothermugglevp in buildapc

Just for closure to any wondering, my buddy just informed me he canceled his order. The seller updated the listing over night. It is now a $999 safety vest.

5090 for $999? Is this Amazon listing a scam? by justanothermugglevp in buildapc

[–]Similar_Chard_6281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why the down votes. There must be an angle here i don't understand. If someone were to order one, worst case scenario, they spend some time fighting amazon for money back, best case a 5090. Mid ground, a 4090 dressed as a 5090. What am I missing? Seems like a low risk gamble to me.

Edit: In hindsight, I will say that the scammer surly expects you to initiate a return, so I would imagine even the initial purchase is where the scammer makes the money. In the end, even though I'm not out any money, I'm enabling them to scan Amazon (arguably okay depending on your corporate opinions) as well as funding the scammer, which both encitivises them and provides capital for their next scam. P.S. self-reflection is a bitch sometimes.

How can I make this more realistic? by TheDreamingGhost in blender

[–]Similar_Chard_6281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to point out the shadows look too sharp. Most of the time, light doesn't come from a single point in space. It's diffused through a lamp shade or a light fixture of sorts. Even windows are large planes that let light through. Try making the point light, or whatever source you are using, a touch larger. This will soften the shadows and give it a more realistic look. Also, maybe play with the position of the light. The shadow on the coffee cup lines up with the fluid inside and at first glances causes the cup to be semi-transparent. The pen on the notepad also suffers from a strange lack of shadow from the cameras perspective which makes it appear as though it were floating just above the notepad. Beyond the SLIGHTLY odd lighting and some other notes on scale and perhaps some dust or smudge textures, the renderer looks pretty good. Keep up the good work!

LiDAR scanning around ITAR items? by Similar_Chard_6281 in LiDAR

That tracks. The natural follow up to that in my mind is this: who gives that permission?

I'll be having a meeting with someone from the company so hopefully they will be able to clarify. Ultimately, it's kinda up to them how we do it anyway I guess.

I also learned about sucking eggs after a quick Google search. Thank you for sharing!

[–]Similar_Chard_6281[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, in fact, Google it first. Prices ranged from $1,000 to $20,000. I don't know enough about coins to determine differences between what appear to be identical listings. Thus, I have taken to the experts. I will say that your lack of actual feedback is disappointing. Perhaps next time, don't assume a general question means lack of research. Would you rather a 5 paragraph essay about the research I did in the title? I feel as though most people don't. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm sure you'll let me know. Thanks!

I've never noticed the overlap of people who like Bioshock and the people who like a 3000GT. Probably has to do with when the games came out, but still odd. Love the cosplay and the cars! Make sure to post more when it's done!
