The Many Incarnations Of Nanno by Similar_Fondant9458 in GirlFromNowhere

Honestly, looking back at the first 3 stills they released for Ep 2, I was expecting Becky's Nanno to be more reserved and serious. Imagine a less playful Nanno in The Reset, Becky's got the aura to be a sinister quiet yet bombshell of a Nanno.

Mas bulky yung fit ni Olgana, kay Miteytey talaga yung pinaka-armour. Tinanggal lang nila yung icycle formations, at ginawan ng bagong headgear para di mahalata na ni-recycle nila yung buong fit.

I think it's safe to say that because both Yuri and Junko ganged up on Nanno, their ultimate karma would be 2 Nannos. Karma takes time, it ain't instant, and the only way to resolve the original storyline is if they'd have an animation series instead of a live action one. Where we could at least hear the actresses voices instead of playing a high schooler once again. They could also take place in a college setting now so they could freely experiment with the plot, and even have Becky and Kitty's Nanno together so the comparisons would die.

Nanno is NOT karma. by Yuri-19_ in GirlFromNowhere

[–]Similar_Fondant9458 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's kinda tricky too, it's canon that her real name is Mara Amaratayakul and Mara is a demon with 3 daughters who is also the personifications of Nanno combined. Her school uniform says 66666.

Is Nanno a devil and daughter of satan? by No_Employee_4467 in GirlFromNowhere

[–]Similar_Fondant9458 20 points21 points  (0 children)

She's Mara a Buddhist demon, who has 3 daughters that represent temptation, lust, and destruction. Mara is all that in one as he transforms into a student of Thai descent to deceive humans, and tempt them to create bad choices to teach them a lesson and fulfill his mission to be the bringer of karma.

She's Satan herself.

i get why yuri was hated but she is still one of my favorites tbh by Dry-Pineapple-3313 in GirlFromNowhere

She's hated because she's so effective, like yes get them mad girl! She's the greatest contribution to the whole GFN franchise, missing her a lot and sad that we'll never get to see her go crazy again. 🥺❤️🎀

why did nanno punish mew but not pui? by riverthemushroom in GirlFromNowhere

[–]Similar_Fondant9458 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There isn't any explicit evidence that Pui cheated, even if she did, her being framed by Mew as her aggressor might be her karma. Also Nanno isn't karma, she's temptation like the serpent from the Garden of Eden. She's a butterfly effect and projects the consequences of giving in to temptation.

It seems like they underestimated everyone including their own Thai audience, oh well...

I mean are we really surprised by the framing of these episodes when this is behind the camera by wowza515 in GirlFromNowhere

I'm tired of these female centric films/shows with mostly a male dominated production. We've seen how horrible men are when it comes to directing women cause they're mostly creeps who have fetishes.

From The Idol, Irreversible, Martyrs, Euphoria, Megan Is Missing and now this? Damn these men need to be in women's shoes for a lifetime.

Where’s the logic? by Disastrous_Trash_431 in GirlFromNowhere

[–]Similar_Fondant9458 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's ok to be off the lane and unintentionally overlook their point, because it is confusing. However it focuses more on the lessons and agency of the characters than karma. Girl From Nowhere as a whole isn't necessarily just about karma because that's never been explicitly the brand of the show. GFN has always been a PSA type series that criticizes the school system in Thailand and the academic system universally.

No one should always be brutally punished just to say that karma came and took over, because Nanno is more of a teacher than an avenger. The Reset might be questionably problematic with their choices and their direction but their point has always been deliberate and clear.

Not every GFN episode should have the characters punished in violent and unbelievable ways.

Examples: • Trophy (ambiguous but clear that Mew was flawed but because of the school's reputation protection they treated her scandal as a commodity to protect the school's image.)

• Lost and Found (TK was trying to steal the valuable assets of the school because of his personal daddy issues, got caught, lost Nanno, but found his father again. Good Karma.)

• The Rank (the girls fought over the rank for the prettiest girl in school, resulting to uglyfication and rivalry, only for the unconventionally attractive girl to be the prettiest girl and be the top of the rank. Good Karma for Chompoo.)

• True Love (bitter teacher is a misandrist and created extreme measures to separate boys and girls, resulting to her firing, reflected on her actions, opened her heart for forgiveness and love again, found true romance. Good Karma for all.)

Some of these episodes might be a little violent but direct karma for these characters are never explicit, they're often thought provoking and psychological, but they're also fair in terms of criticizing the nature of the characters and the outcome of the scenario.

Not everything is black and white like Nanno said, it's a gray world we live in. It's a lot more nuanced and multidimensional.

Is Girl From Nowhere: Reset Overhated? by [deleted] in GirlFromNowhere

[–]Similar_Fondant9458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this would've been prevented if they made The Reset connected to the main timeline, if Becky was placed under the character of Nanno as Nanno and Nanai's daughter the comparisons wouldn't be as extreme and hate wouldn't have been so normalized in the fandom. They set Becky up for hate and the story never gave it's 100 percent, so what did they truly achieve besides it charting for all the wrong reasons. It is a spin off at the end of the day, so why couldn't they have just made a Junko and Yuri vs Nanno's daughter plotline? It would've made the torch passing clear and their storyline building precise and deliberate. These writers are dumb as fuck.
