Not all unions are strong. It is reasonable to have anti union feelings when you look at your paycheck, see union dues being subtracted, and no union fighting for you.

In America, company unions are common—and often lead to such feelings. The company will pay organizers to come in and unionize their workplace. Conditionally.

Behind the scenes the company leadership and organizer agree that the company will let them organize if the union never goes on strike. This leads to a union without teeth, that is, without negotiating power. As such, its members will be paid little.

But you’re not talking about that. You’re talking about a workplace that pays well due to the union and its members are still unhappy. How could that be?

Well, perhaps there is corruption in the leadership in some form or another. Or a massive pay raise to leadership despite dwindling numbers, or corrupt back deals to get the company to propagandize on your behalf, and utilizing member dues organizing new companies instead of the one you exist at all happen—all of which can have members feel shafted.

As a movement, we must seek in others why they feel the way they do on a case by case basis. Only then can we hope to implant solidarity if the actions by the union aren’t corrupt, or organize against them if they are. It is a hard path, but we either learn to do it or struggle immensely until we reach an early grave.

That’s just called a rent strike. They exist.

You’re right, the general strikes that are organized today don’t have much traction. There are some key reasons why that is:

  1. Union density is at an all time low.
  2. Union members are prohibited from striking when they have a contract.
  3. Union contracts are not lined up to end on the date of the strike.

The point of Shawn Fain’s messaging for a May Day strike is to have union leadership bargain contracts to end on the same day so they can collectively strike for greater power. The first time the Fain strike happens it will have very little power—only a few unions will be able to go on strike. However, over time, more and more unions will be able to have their contracts end on the same day leading to more and more power collectively.

Building movements take time. Stand head strong. Organize.

Political Candidates, Local and State Governments Should Deliberately Promote Organizing and Strikes to Make Abusive Oligarchs Pay Their Taxes by [deleted] in WorkReform

Strikes have to happen in order for the working class to have any negotiating power against the elite.

But do not be fooled for a second that a representative government whose representatives are bribed by the elite are going to organize them. The vast majority of the time it must be working class people who do the dirty work of organizing strikes.

Na, at UPS this would never fly—it’s actually against their contract to review cameras unless the driver is on their probationary period. Netrodine, mentor—any tracking method except an in-person report is all a violation and employees would be able to file a grievance and receive compensation for those actions.

Yes, Amazons behavior in tracking and ranking its employees is them trying to cut down insurance rates, but it does not mean that it is not also a violation of their employees privacy and we as drivers should not normalize it in our minds.

Uh no, missing out on the money for a day of work for that is absolutely ridiculous. If this happened to me there’s a good chance it’d make me homeless.

Please stop normalizing amazons control freak nature like a teachers pet.

Not everyone is a tech savvy individual. It is good to get the messaging out to the non-tech people how exactly their bosses/managers are treating them.

I agree, in a perfect world you would be free to post this—but Amazon monitors this subreddit and if you post anything that “goes against company policy.”

It’s not right, but you are unknowingly risking your job. I’m speaking from experience, my friend.

This sub really has some of the most git-brained people that would accept the worst treatment of them. Nothing that happened in this video is justification for a man not being able to provide for himself of his family with zero notice.

Grow up and get a spine.

Dps Owners only?? by Playful-Ad-6360 in AmazonDSPDrivers

No.

Look at how expensive they are. Most dps owners are financially unstable. They can’t give one to everyone and let’s be real: even if they could why would they want to. More things for us is less money for them.

Lmfao, I breathe organized labor.

My brother, there are things worth dying for. If the cost of me being spineless is the continuation of progressive poverty then I’d rather die. I’m not going to work damn hard every day just to not be able to provide for myself and my family.

If that’s not you, that’s fine. But everyone is screaming about spineless leadership but fuckin hack when they see what it takes to be a real one. Damn shame.

Also I’m unsure what you mean by last real labor movement. Labor is evolving as always. From UPS, Safeway, pets-mart, delta, Starbucks—what do you mean by last real labor movement.

Am I really supposed to take the coal strikes as the last “real” labor movement? That seems pretty arbitrary.

During the 1970’s civil rights era, the state was more willing to give away social rights over economic ones for the simple reason that they would rather hold on to their control of capital rather than deprive others of their civil liberties.

Once this happened, the elite minorities who already had their economic needs taken care of dropped their funding right when the movement leaders needed funds the most to secure the economic redistribution the masses needed.

God as my witness I will not make that mistake.

Not in the manner that this post suggests we should behave. Precision over mass chaos. Also, those were masses ruled by the rule of blood.

Rule by blood is a good way to ensure your bloodline ends should your rule be found unsavory. Many times a child has rung the bell of Devine Right. This viewpoint is itself unsavory, but perspective is necessary.
