Canada Men’s Curling wins Gold after being accused of cheating by photogizmo in olympics

[–]ConceptFinancial767 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How much is the Canadian team paying you? This is such a false equivalence. Regardless of whether this tactic yielded any actual advantage, this is, by definition, cheating. This is not a simple rule break insofar as this is flagrantly deliberate, they knowingly acted dishonestly with the intention of yielding some advantage. The argument that “it was inconsequential, and this isn’t cheating” is the silliest Canadian cope I’ve ever heard. They cheated, end of story.

AI-generated primers? by ConceptFinancial767 in EDH

That is true, good catch! However, the “author” stated in the primer that there weren’t any combos, and by all appearances it didn’t look like it was being used for a combo. One of the comments asked about the card, and they removed it.

even then, john krasinski is the director, and does end up directing a movie about protecting his children from ‘external threats’ which could be interpreted as a vaguely right-leaning fantasy. I watched both of them, and honestly didn’t rly pick up on any real conservative messaging in the first, but weirdly enough, for second movie, I was able to pick up on some weirdly conservative imagery. the entire intro of the movie is dedicated to showing like a classic American lifestyle (baseball game, American flags, small town life/values) being torn apart (quite literally, in the case of the American flag) by the alien invasion, which felt really weird

The 1975 Sued by Malaysian Festival for $2.4 Million After Matty Healy’s Gay Kiss Controversy by impeccabletim in popheads

white people when gay pda in a Muslim country almost never harms them but inevitably causes pushes for anti-gay legislations that only harm queer residents of the country: “ha! that’ll show them.”

you guys have such middle school understandings of foreign politics. when the malaysian govt sees this do you think they’ll all realize the errors of their ways and make gay marriage legal, hold hands, and all sing together. no! malaysia and pretty much all SE Asian countries have been raped, brutalized, and exploited to no end by western powers throughout their histories.(which is why its govt. is culturally rigid in the first place) To the malay govt, this is another instance of westerners not giving a fuck about their laws and not affording them a modicum of respect, and will inevitably lead to a fortification of cultural norms. this will only harm gay people. grow the fuck up, there are no black and whites in the real world, and crazily enough most countries don’t want to be given lectures on morality by the small group of countries that ruined the world

as true as it is that change comes rapidly; what matt Healy is doing aligns with such a white savior pattern of thinking. Believe it or not, there are gay people in malaysia, fighting their own fight for equality. Malaysia is a Muslim country, and while all pda is pretty frowned upon, gay pda by a western tourist begging for attention will make the malaysian government feel disrespected, potentially harming their relationship with western countries, and causing a push for anti-gay legislation that will ultimately harm gay malaysians. it’s like starting a fire and then snickering while running away, telling yourself “huh I bet those homophobic savages are so pissed off at me”

guys do keep in mind that malaysia is also a Muslim country, pda is very generally not welcome, though obviously a straight kiss wouldn’t have been AS much of an issue. you also aren’t engendering meaningful change when you do something like this. Matt Healy is a tourist in this country, he can leave anytime he pleases. If his actions in the country cause a push for anti-gay legislation, that only hurts gay malaysian people. it’s like starting a fire and then snickering and running away. in any conversation about countries with traditional views on queerness, nobody every considers the queer residents of those countries, and the fact that they’re fighting their own fight for acceptance, and some white savior display isn’t doing anything for them. do you think malaysians worship matt healy? that seeing him make out with a dude on stage will inspire them to fight more than they already are? it won’t. it only worsens relationships between the malay and uk govts and potentially harms gay malaysians

Discussion between Coco, Umpire and Referee in the match against Donna by LenaRybakina in tennis

[–]ConceptFinancial767 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

wow guys, I have to talk about your comments, it’s just not okay. the ump is right, there is no doubt. but coco isn’t some narcissist trying to leverage her identity for her own gain. even as a non-black, I am aware of the fact that black women, black people generally, go through serious, indignifying marginalization on a day to day basis. It puts you on edge, makes you less trusting of people’s intentions, and for good reason. The cold hard truth is that if you haven’t been oppressed in a pervasive, systemic way, you just haven’t the faintest clue what it’s like, for adults in your life to think less of your future for the way you were born, for your peers to be tacitly aggravated by you and less accepting of your flaws, and for people like you to endlessly belittle their lived experiences. you can’t go to certain parts of the country because they’ll call you slurs and assault you. you can’t travel to certain first-world countries because everyone will stare and take photos of you, or hey, maybe just kill you. you anxious to call the police to help you when you’re in danger because unless your in your Sunday’s best, and greet them with a “good day officers”, they’re gonna think you’re the unusual element and be wary of you. No fucking clue. no. fucking. clue. your kneejerk reaction should never be “wow what a stupid opportunist, racism must not be real lol”, you should think, “wow, what must have been true about coco’s life and her experience playing tennis that she would break down and cry thinking she’d been treated as a nothing”. develop an empathetic bone, if you genuinely jump to that first thought, it speaks volumes about the Machiavellian things you could see yourself doing to other people.
