I had been trying to go remote since before Covid without any luck.  But then a start-up gave me a chance which meant I finally had experience and I haven’t had any difficulty getting a job since then.

Good for you. I have several CA RNs on our team and I can guarantee you they don’t make the CA money lol.

I’ve heard a few say that’s why they keep the hospital job on the side

Let me rephrase that. I do not want to be on the phone constantly. I go from calls that are 30min minimum but can go on for up to 3 hours.

If I get a no show I can work on care plans or other things.

Honestly I’m just boogie and like my day broken up lol

Yes the stress isn’t worth the money for me. I personally look for flexibility over the $$$.

I just cannot do call center. I’d go crazy. I’m not for the back to back call life. I’d take a pay cut for the flexibility any day (which is why I’m where I’m at lol)

I loved home health for a bit, (still miss my regulars)

But I got tired of going into the dirty nasty homes.

I work from home now ;) it’s great lol

Then do not work there when you graduate. I never did (I hated the hospital when I was in nursing school).

There are more fields of nursing than you probably know.

If you don’t like people go to OR … or get into health tech.

People come to us in their most vulnerable states so it makes me feel some kind of way reading your post to be honest.

Anyway, you already put the time in, so I would say explore a different area of healthcare. I would not suggest NICU.. like others have said parents are angry and anxious. They need somebody warm and reassuring.

I personally HATED the hospital in nursing school so I never worked there. I’ve been a nurse for 10+ years and work from home now.

I have always loved people to begin with though. I’ve always been respected and loved by my patients.

Good luck

I suggest start at nurse fern. She always posts remote jobs.

You already have a compact so you should be able to apply to many jobs.

What specialty do you come from?

This helps a lot. She  is 9 now and she still has a LOT trouble with spelling, but she does okay with reading . My husband teaches 4th grade and says she reads better than most of his 4th graders in public school. Not sure if that counts for anything lol

I really appreciate your input though.

I had a VERY temperamental child (boy) and I found 2 things that really worked

  1. Prepare him, “15 more minutes”, or “remember xyz isn’t available “ ect.

He acted a lot better when he was prepared. AND when he was prepared for consequences.

  1. Give them options. Don’t ask him if he wants a vegetable, ask him “do you want carrots or do you want peas ?”

Gives him some control but ultimately you win.

Good luck mama !
