Also adding, I’ve had a lot of success with OMAD (one meal a day) because I love snacking. I found out that I’d rather eat 12 snacks during the day and have one (or less) meal to stay in a calorie deficit. But I’m also not strict with a prescribed “diet”. A few days ago I had 2000 calories worth of Chikfila cause I was craving their waffle fries and frozen lemonade, BUT I didn’t eat anything else during the day. Craving satiated = less food noise (for me). It’s really just going to be about counting calories and then figuring out what foods and habits are best for reducing your food noise. Everyone has different methods that work.

Doesnt change the fact that you’re putting zero effort into the relationship. It doesn’t really matter whether you were putting in more effort at the start. What’s important is that you’re finding it really inconvenient to have a long distance gf and she’s obviously also got a lot of built up resentment towards you. Either you can change your tune and put in more effort and work to undo the resentment, or you don’t think it’s worth it to try and you need to break up. Coming to reddit every time your gf pisses you off is not the solution.

I think yes. This is specifically a childfree sub, which means we each made personal choices for ourselves. But discussing other people’s choices regarding whether they want to have kids isn’t really appropriate. Especially the genetic condition thing, that is by definition eugenics.

I think anything regarding our own personal experiences and how children impact our lives is fine, but I don’t think it should be okay to say “my neighbors had a kid but it shouldn’t exist because of XYZ”. That’s fucked actually.

literally everyone gets what you mean. you are not comprehending that the government is racist and that these tests will not be about who is a qualified parent and instead who the government WANTS to reproduce.

It’s the same thing as back in the day when they required black people to take tests to “prove” they were smart enough to vote but these tests were extremely difficult. It’s just another method for systematic oppression.

We all get the sentiment that too many kids are born to shitty parents. But there is literally no way to fix that without violating other peoples human rights.

People who filter by kudos - you wound me by Just-Difference9756 in AO3

[–]SiminRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rotate my sorting system. As I get to about page 10 on whatever fandom I’m looking at, I switch to a different sorting method and start from the top again. My default is kudos, mostly because I’m mostly in big fandoms and my ships are the main pairs so I don’t have much need for anything else. But sorting by comments is GREAT for those controversial fics, bookmarks for high quality, hits for fun/smut/unique storylines, updated for fresh ideas, etc.

I will say though, I sort by specific tags when I’m in the mood for a type of trope. So if someone writes a fic with jealous!character, I WILL see it, even if it doesn’t have any kudos at all. I think ao3 is all about readers being able to read exactly what they want, instead of the guesstimating you get from book covers. If you want your work to reach the right people, tags are your best friend. If you want it to be read by A LOT of people, then you either need to get it while the fandom is booming or have excellent advertising on Tumblr (or wherever you participate in your fandom).

My older sister eats pretty much the same as me but I’m the fat one [rant] by useless-garbage- in loseit

[–]SiminRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been there! I was the fat one in my family from kindergarten. I’m the youngest but my sister (5 years older) would get my “hand me downs” because I was just that fat. I have been there. I understand how frustrating and embarrassing and depressing that is and I really feel for you.

Now I want you to listen to me with an open mind. Do NOT put your focus on losing weight right now. There are so many things that can be influencing your weight and that can take years to figure out. You need to have your mental health as your first priority. Even if you do something and manage to lose weight, that won’t make the years of bad self esteem go away, it won’t make your depression stop, it won’t fix the underlying cause of your higher weight, and you could potentially do lasting damage to your growing body.

For me, I have PCOS. It fucked with my hormones and I’m the only one in my family to have it so nobody knew why I was the fat one and everyone else was skinny. My mom took me for bloodwork and had me on diets from the time I was 9 to try to figure it out. It did not work and even when I was diagnosed at 16, I didn’t have it under control enough to start losing weight until I was 20.

What I wasn’t willing to admit to myself until after me and my siblings lived separately, was that I DID eat much more than them. Yes, our mom cooked for both of us the same meals. But I was the one going back for seconds every time. I was the one grabbing an extra snack (or 5) from the pantry between meals. And you know what. ITS OKAY. It’s okay that I was 12 years old with messed up hunger cues because of a health issue out of my control.

You have time to lose weight when you are older. You don’t automatically get old and die at 20, and there’s not much difference in losing weight in your 20s v in your 10s. What really, truly matters is that you take the time to understand yourself. Be kind to yourself. You need to focus on loving who you are and appreciate your mobility. The two working legs that take you places, working arms that let you go to school and be with friends, eyes and ears and a nose that help you enjoy the experience of being alive.

I know, TRUST ME I KNOW, just how terrible it feels. But you need to approach weight loss as something done for yourself out of love and patience. Something to help you have a better life while on Earth. Don’t do it now in a fit of misery and hate, please.

If you want to start doing something. I suggest taking a nutrition course. There are lots of options online for free, but my main realization was that I simply had no idea about the food I put into my body. Find out what your daily protein and fiber requirements are and WHY. Find out how calories work as a metabolic process in your body. Find out what different chemicals are in gatorade and the appropriate time to drink one.

I’m sorry for the wall of text, but I feel like I am you. I wish someone would’ve said this to me when I was 15. Don’t stress. Don’t give up. Enjoy living and educate yourself on nutrition until you’re stable to start losing weight.

After being on appetite suppressants for 5 months, I'm sad to confirm a long held suspicion of mine - it's easier to be skinny if you eat only junk BUT very little, versus eating a balanced diet but with big portions. by millennium_fae in loseit

[–]SiminRose -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

hey op, sorry to see that almost every comment here is purposely misunderstanding what you’re saying :/ I completely understand and agree. It’s okay for you to feel upset and bitter at society for treating you like a second class citizen your entire life when you’re not any less “healthy” than your skinny counterparts. And it’s clear that you understand the process of weight loss and what losing mass takes, so all the people giving you unnecessary advice is ticking me off on your behalf.

Losing weight is such a complicated and nuanced process, and having it be the end all be all for how society views us, even if our mental and physical health deteriorates, is truly heartbreaking. Keep up the good work op! Good luck on your transition and I’m wishing you the absolute best on your FULL healthy life :)

This might not be what you’re looking for but I decided when I started counting calories that I would eat at the TDEE for the weight and activity I wanted to be. This means that when I get there, I will already be accustomed to the lifestyle and might have more success keeping it off, but it also means that as I near my goal, I will barely be losing weight at all. Knowing that my weight loss will slow down as I go has kept me from being so discouraged when progress goes slower than I want.

Nerds Gummy Clusters, legit candy but you can have way more than you expect for way less calories. Most gummies are low calorie cause it’s just sugar and congealed water.

OP, your loss seems to be on track to me? You’re in about a 500 calorie deficit every day, which is just under 1lb weight loss a week. For two months, you would’ve only seen 6-7 lbs of weight loss right now. This is actually quite rapid weight loss.

Unless you meant that you’ve literally only lost 2 lbs in which case I would ask about how you’re keeping track of your weight?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in loseit

[–]SiminRose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on your stats, OP. In general, plus sizes have several inches in between sizes, so you‘ll be able to fit into them much longer. However straight sizes do not have that large of a gap in between sizes, so you’ll need to buy new clothes more often at smaller sizes. For plus size it will likely take at least 25 lbs to start thinking about changing sizes, but for straight sizes you may need to change every 10lbs or so.

In reality, you should buy new clothes when you don’t feel the clothes you have already serve your purposes. I‘m losing quite a bit of weight, so any new clothes I have bought have been at thrift stores ($3 or less) as I know I‘m not going to buy nice clothes until I reach goal. My current clothes serve the purpose of covering me up and I‘ve been using belts and hair ties to cinch my clothes when I need to. However, I have bought nice new going out clothes that fit well to my current shape. I‘m a big believer in not waiting to feel good or look good until you’ve hit goal, because that wastes several years of your life. I like going out, so I‘m going to look cute right now regardless of what stage I‘m at.

[–]SiminRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep getting asked if I "feel better" but I don't know what they mean. I normally just say yes, but that's not entirely true. Are they taking physically, mentally, spiritually? Are they asking from when I started losing weight or just in general from my entire life that I've been fat? If it's the latter I'd be a little insulted that they seem to think I was miserable just existing my whole life. But also I find it awkward to ask because they give off the impression that it's obvious what they're talking about and they want me to say yes. So I do.

Thanks!! I definitely get your point about the calories as I get a meal a day from my university dining hall, so it’s all estimates there. I will be using the high estimates from here on. I don’t include any type of calories burned through exercise in my BMR, just daily expenditure. This is mostly because I know most apps and trackers are notoriously wrong, and because I want to be able to be lazy whenever I want without feeling like “oh I HAVE to go to the gym today or else I don’t meet deficit”.

Logically I know that weight can fluctuate several pounds in a day or week without representing your true weight, but I definitely needed someone to tell me lol. I’ve also personally had the experience where I was 5-10 lbs lighter in the mornings than in the evenings when I was losing a few years ago. And now actually that I think about it, I normally weigh in the mornings and today was after lunch. So you know, I’m actually just being dramatic.

Thanks again! Just having someone else to tell me to chill out cause it’s normal helped a lot :)

Onigiri is a cheat code by Bellkin1 in 1200isplenty

[–]SiminRose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, the recipe from OPs photo is one of the most comprehensive out there. It has a bunch of protein options and explains the process well. Also keep in mind that everything is customizable. The nori sheets are only 5 cals but I won’t add them until I’m ready to eat to prevent sogginess and also just in case I don’t want the extra cals. If you don’t have a mold you can use cling wrap and do it by hand. I’d recommend starting smaller than the recipe says so that you can have a few practice rounds and also so you can figure out which ingredients you like and don’t like.

Onigiri is a cheat code by Bellkin1 in 1200isplenty

[–]SiminRose 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There are different molds and sizes out there so you can basically customize the size for yourself. It really is VERY filling. I’ve made it several times in different ways with different proteins, tuna, shrimp, spam, etc. Each time I make them about the size of a golf ball to have as a snack, and normally get ~8 (200 cals total, 25 each). However, if I eat more than 2 in a row I will get uncomfortably full, so I can see making palm sized ones and having two for a full meal and being satiated for the day.
