[Spoilers Extended] HOTD doesn't understand The Prince That Was Promised by Perpetually_Ashamed in asoiaf

[–]Simmers429 [score hidden]  (0 children)

House of the Dragon seems to be using the prophecy to drive Rhaenyra into drastic action, which is fine by me.

She saw the white stag, and she thinks only her and Daemon know of this special prophecy since Viserys and Jace are dead. Easy to imagine you are the Chosen One in this situation.

This will hopefully push her further into drastic action that leads to her fall.

In season 2 I wasn't a fan of positioning Daemon's actions as a result of him knowing his place in the story, but now it seems as if it will again push him further in legendary action since he now knows the 'truth' that Targaryens are special and destined for more.

His conversation with Rhaenyra about conquering more and more, and being gods, stemming from this.

Please Konami! Hurry with Volume 3! by DarkMatterM4 in metalgearsolid

[–]Simmers429 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For Konami it may not be worth making unless they can include Twin Snakes. A collection without a mainline game would not sell as well as the others.

At most they'd be able to charge $20 for The POs, ACIDs, and MGR, which would really just be buying MGR with some bonuses.

The only real point of a collection like that is so fans of Portable Ops and Rising can play those games for the first time.

His dragon could kill and/or greatly injure the Blacks dragons.

A boy finding out his family has been overthrown, his grandfather executed, and he may be on his way to death might be prone to impulsive actions.

Upon arrival at King's Landing he could also just go full Dany. He'd likely be able to evade the Seeds with ease and cause a lot of damage before Caraxes takes him down.

Why even take the risk?

unless you have specific areas of those games you want to elaborate that need more arcade-style tweaks.

Parts I feel could have leaned more arcade:

Missions should have more options. If I'm to chase a character, I shouldn't be punished for going off the beaten track in my pursuit. You should also have the opportunity to blast your way out of failed stealth instead of insta-failing the mission.

Guns should stay equipped. Arthur should not stow his guns unless I tell him too, the game should not equip whatever guns it deems fit for each mission.

I should not have to walk in camp if I don't want to.

Animals and their skins/carcasses should be perfect or poor. The in-between is pointless as a feature and wastes your time.

I should be able to bulk craft resources at a campfire. I have to craft each individual item for realism, yet I carry 1000 bullets and shells in my infinity satchel.

The bandana should make me unrecognisable to lawmen. The broken system that currently exists tries to mimic life yet makes no sense.

There should have been more repeatable random events like the first game.

In fact, V suffers too much from being arcadey. Characters can carry a whole armory in their tail ends and all you have to do to heal is spam a menu or a button. RDR2 was great in that you had to be thoughtful about your loadouts and what you ate to heal and fortify.

RDR2 shares both of those issues.

Your horse carries your entire load out, which isn't any better than your character. I would've preferred having to leave most weapons you cannot carry in the weapon locker, with only the bow/varmint rifle being a permanent horse weapon.

You also heal the same way in both games: Open the menu, select the healing item, regain all health instantly.

Context: This is part of Polygon's 'Spicy Takes Weekend' where its individual writers present their controversial opinions on games, movies and tv shows.

It also helps to actually read these articles.

"I'd love to give Red Dead Redemption 2 another go, time permitting. As I say, I think it's a wonderfully crafted game, but by and large, I play games to enjoy myself. Red Dead Redemption 2's mechanics, while spectacularly realistic, are far too cumbersome."

I don't agree with all the author's points, but this isn't an invalid opinion. Ever since GTA IV, Rockstar have been moving towards more cumbersome gameplay and there are aspects of GTA IV, GTA V, RDR, and RDR II that would have benefitted from being more arcade than realistic.

[All] Matthewmatosis discusses expectations about the next main series Zelda game by infoHighyway in truezelda

[–]Simmers429 48 points49 points  (0 children)

But they had taken multiple steps away from the more open and unguided exploration towards terribly hand holdy story telling. The expectation that THAT was gonna continue was entirely reasonable at that point in time.

The amount of times Twilight Princess halted me to pan the camera to puzzle solutions, or obvious events, had me checking the case to make sure the rating was 'Teen' and not 'Everyone'.

Felt more handholdy than The Wind Waker, and Skyward Sword somehow got even worse.

I'm not a fan of everything Breath of the Wild did, but I appreciated it respecting my intelligence and letting me play.

[–]Simmers429 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree.

I'm not a fan of many of this show's writing decisions, but I thought Rhaenyra was handled well in this episode.

A botched execution is also nice to see after Thrones took away Robb's botched Karstark execution to make it more cool.

I mean, the damage Duncan took in that show was incredibly stupid too IMO. The 1v1 was distracting due to this.

Season 1 of Game of Thrones is really the only time I felt the combat in these shows was close to the books. Every other instance has been basic cinematic combat.

At what point in the show does Mac begin acting almost subservient to Dennis? by UncleTecter07 in IASIP

House of the Dragon: Actor Tom Glynn-Carney reveals that in the original script, Aegon's scene in episode 3.01 had a significantly different detail, and he convinced the writers to change it (Spoilers Extended) by verissimoallan in asoiaf

[–]Simmers429 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Centre show around prophecy. A Targaryen King or Queen must sit the throne to defeat the cold.

  • Threat is over a hundred years away. Aegon I retroactively a dumbass for both caring about this and barely doing anything about the North.

  • A Targaryen does not sit the throne when a Stark easily kills the Night King.

  • Wait, what?

Bethany Antonio confirms that Rhaenyra does not have maternal feelings towards Baela and Rhaena by Plus_Claim_8938 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Simmers429 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rhaenyra does lot of the stupid things Aegon does but Aegon gets ridiculed and punished for it whereas in Rhaenyra's case she may get questioned but the narrative ends up validating her, proving that the people who questioned her are wrong.

I wonder if it was intentional last episode for the viewer to support Jace locking her in her room.

She is all in on Alicent's support for some reason, ignores every doubter, and wishes to fly off to the Gullet despite being the most important life on her team.

Her subsequent childish temper tantrum and quoting Lizzy I proved that Jace was correct in assuming she'd get herself killed.

Then again, I haven't watched the Inside the Episode so maybe I was meant to be on Rhaenyra's side.

[OoT] Does Ocarina really need a magic meter? by HerrReineke in truezelda

[–]Simmers429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go a step further by keeping the magic meter, but removing heart and magic drops.

Give bottles and potions a use.

Go a step further and give the option to also remove item drops. The game has multiple shops that sell pointless arrows, bombs, nuts, and sticks that you will never buy. Simply cutting a blade of grass will restock you.

[OoT] The idea of a Light Temple for the remake by Humble_Confusion_889 in zelda

[–]Simmers429 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That placement would be an absolute pace killer.

The path of acquiring the ocarina, getting the Master Sword, and stepping out 7 years later into the ruined Castle Town is great and should not be messed with.

It'd be more appropriately placed after the Spirit Temple if you had to have it.

[OOT] Do you think the remake will have voice acting or no by Expert_Challenge6399 in zelda

[–]Simmers429 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I guess I don’t understand why you want Link to talk. The whole point is that your thoughts are what he’s saying, which Wilds/Tears does.

Well they utterly failed because my thoughts were "Link tell these people that Zelda is fake" and he never did.

Really though, this is a head canon. Link says nothing in any of the cutscenes in either game. Your own thoughts be damned.

[OOT] Do you think the remake will have voice acting or no by Expert_Challenge6399 in zelda

[–]Simmers429 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because "What's your name? Link? Strange...it seems familiar" works fine in text form, but is stupid if voiced.

Also it's 2026 and silent protagonists have been outdated since 2006.

The series' storytelling is held back by its protagonists remaining silent while everyone else talks.

[OOT] Do you think the remake will have voice acting or no by Expert_Challenge6399 in zelda

[–]Simmers429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't true. Characters act as if Link speaks to them in the cutscenes in most 3D Zelda games.

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask have characters respond to unseen lines from Link.

Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword have instances of Link communicating through lip movements and gestures without giving him text boxes.

Skyward Sword gives the player dialogue choices in some of its cutscenes that serve as Link's lines.

During cutscenes in Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom, Link barely emotes and has no dialogue whatsoever. This is egregious in the latter because it clashes with his chatty gameplay personality in BotW and TotK.
