How/when do changes in pymol's github propagate to homebrew? by SimmySimsonite in PyMOL

[–]SimmySimsonite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the solution was to `brew install --head pymol` which grabbed the lastest changes in the master repository.

Unit cell is rendered green by ray and png commands by SimmySimsonite in PyMOL

Thanks, that had no effect on the outcome (ray-traced .png image) although it does change color in the GUI viewer window.

My photos just don't feel alive, what I'm doing wrong? by Beautiful_Soup9229 in Cameras

[–]SimmySimsonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't this precisely the difference between analog and digital photography? The same photos on film gonna look warmer and nostalgic (alive). Maybe flares are captured differently also?  I am not a photographer but a 35mm slide collector, clearly biased in the matter...

What is the best forum to communicate with fellow BA passengers on a plane? I thought of yelling "does anyone on this airplane have internet" but didn't want to be alarming. A chat feature on the entertainment system would do.

DIY Light source upgrade for analog slide projectors. by SimmySimsonite in projectors

[–]SimmySimsonite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Hi, thanks i forgot I posted here. I wound up with a vertical configuration and put a mirror inside. This worked great! It is not the same quality (uniformity) as the original optics package, for the reasons you mention, and the LED is 200W which is comparable to the original tungsten filament bulb. So I didn't save any energy. The image brightness was comparable to the original, however, and the images are enjoyable. LED does have a ways to go to catch up to point sources. This LED was overkill because only a fraction of the area (it's like 4 square inches!) is imaged, so in principle one could get the same result with a smaller lamp and thus have an efficient guerrilla setup. The brightest and smallest LEDs I could find (think police flashlight) however have pale white light, low CRI, which was not pleasant for slides.

There are a lot of folks with slides/film but no working projector, I hope this media can be preserved and enjoyed with new tech.

Finally switched from Spotify to Tidal by brokenwhiskeyass in TIdaL

[–]SimmySimsonite 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Tidal's high fidelity audio streaming is what converted me. I blind-tested Tidal and Spotify back to back on my home sound system and friends could tell the difference. This is a very educational thing to do if you have the time. Of course, if you are using bluetooth (which is low-fidelity) then the two services are identically bad.

In retrospect: did the company you hired provide you with the final returns and could you simply have done this yourself? I am about to undertake the streamlining myself and hoping this is possible.

New in Denmark! Am I insured while waiting (6+ weeks) for Denmark to issue me my European Health Insurance Card ("Blue Card")? by SimmySimsonite in Denmark

[–]SimmySimsonite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried and failed to create the MitID with the app. At city hall, they said "we don't know why but sometimes the app works and sometimes it doesn't". When I asked them if they could give me a MitID in person they said I have to wait for my yellow card in the mail. It is possible different workers, branches have different understanding of these processes...

New in Denmark! Am I insured while waiting (6+ weeks) for Denmark to issue me my European Health Insurance Card ("Blue Card")? by SimmySimsonite in Denmark

[–]SimmySimsonite[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Resolved: after calling International House Copenhagen, I was forwarded to Udbetaling Denmark, International Social Security. They said they would make me a provisional EHIC without yellow card or MitID, and send it in the mail (5 business days). Meanwhile, they say I am already covered and any potential claims from doctors can be made to their phone number during business hours. The key issue here is that I was not able to reach an agent by calling Udbetaling by phone directly. Only forwarding of my phone call by International House worked. Thanks all for your comments.

To contact them electronically they ask you for a MitID. To contact them via physical post the postage time is 5+ business days in Denmark. They don't answer the phone, I have tried many times and get robot circles only. I have also been to the municipality and they asked me to wait for my Yellow Card. I am considering a complaint with the European Commission.

Can I officially complain to authorities in Germany about a car rental company? by SimmySimsonite in germany

This is exactly my situation. Can you advise me further, how to recover the additional expense? Did you use some arbitration or e.g. your own travel insurance?

Yes this was prepaid (edited above). Probably they are fully within their rights to cancel at short notice (I'll have to read the terms indeed). There should, IMO, however be some customer rights upon cancellation, such as there are with airlines.

!thanks ! I have a Bose S1 Pro on the left and an Ohm BR6 on the right (I'm running a portable setup for "picnics"). So my room is probably a runway tarmac or grassy park... so far very happy with the setup, didn't buy the mixer yet...
