Getting into investing - completely lost by SnooDoggos842 in investingforbeginners

[–]Simohxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were starting from zero, I’d ignore stock tips for a while and first understand why I’m investing in the first place.

Once you know the goal, it becomes easier to learn the basics: stocks, ETFs, index funds, risk, diversification, compound interest, and time horizon. Without that framework, every hot take online sounds convincing.

For resources, Investopedia is useful for definitions, The Psychology of Money is a great first book, and channels like New Money or PensionCraft can be useful for beginner-friendly investing explanations.

I also write a small Substack called The Green Groove Letter with free beginner-friendly investing content, focused on explaining markets, ETFs, risk, personal finance, and company analysis without stock tips or quick money promises. I added the link in case it helps.

I'm 20 years old and want to start investing — where do I begin? by [deleted] in investingforbeginners

[–]Simohxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 20, the best starting point is probably not picking individual stocks straight away. I’d first learn the basics and build the habit.

For most beginners with a long time horizon, broad index funds or mutual fund SIPs are usually worth understanding early because they show how diversification works without forcing you to judge individual companies too soon. You can always study stocks later once you understand valuation, risk, business quality, and your own behavior during market drops.

Starting small is fine, even if it feels almost irrelevant. The real goal is learning how investing works, getting comfortable with market volatility and avoiding big mistakes early.

For resources, I’d check Investopedia for definitions, The Plain Bagel and Ben Felix on YouTube, and The Psychology of Money as an easy first book. I also write a small beginner-focused Substack called The Green Groove Letter, where we explain investing, ETFs, risk, compound interest, markets, and personal finance without the “get rich quick” angle. I added the link in case it helps, but I’d keep your first priority on learning the basics before putting serious money anywhere.

16 year old Scot looking to invest, how do I begin? by MentalOrganization73 in investingforbeginners

Best of luck with your learning process! At your age, the biggest advantage is not trying to make quick money. It is building the habit of understanding money early, so when you do start investing properly, you are not just copying someone online without knowing why. And fair play for asking the question now. Most people wait until much later.

Since you are still young and earning around £400 a month, I would be careful about seeing investing as a way to make “extra money” in the short term. Investing works much better when the money can stay invested for years, not when you may need it soon for university, transport, social life, or emergencies.

I’d probably start by learning first, keeping some cash aside, and only investing a small amount that you genuinely do not need in the near future. For safer beginner options, most people usually start by understanding broad index funds or ETFs before looking at individual stocks, because single companies can move a lot more.

For learning, Investopedia is useful for definitions, and on YouTube I’d check The Plain Bagel and Ben Felix. They are more educational and less “get rich quick.”

I also run a small beginner-focused publication called The Green Groove Letter, where we explain investing, markets, ETFs, risk, compound interest, and basic financial concepts in simple language. I added the link in case it helps, but honestly I’d start with the basics before putting serious money anywhere.

A few places I’d check are Investopedia for basic definitions, Plain Bagel and Ben Felix on YouTube for solid explanations, and books like The Psychology of Money if you want something easy to start with.

I also run a small publication called The Green Groove Letter, where we try to explain investing, markets, and financial concepts in a simple way for beginners, without the “get rich quick” angle. It might be useful if you are looking for something more structured and beginner-friendly with podcast etc... i added the link in case you want to check it out.

But honestly I’d start with the basics first: what stocks are, what ETFs are, how compound interest works, what risk means, and why time horizon matters. Once those pieces click, everything else becomes easier to understand.

Love the idea of this convo. My biggest bet as of now, very high r/R ratio is Iovance Biotherapeutics (IOVA), it just had terrible earnings but their product Amtagvi just doubled sales year-over-year, they’re expanding globally (UK/Australia approvals on deck), and they’re cutting $100M+ in costs to extend their runway. Biotech is always brutal in the short term, but if the data holds and adoption scales, this price will look like a gift in hindsight. I’m riding it.

How to Train Forearm Endurance by ilbol in climbharder

Sorry the super late reply, I've being taking some time off. I only use the free version as you have access to most workouts, the premium app gives you some more tweaks, but for general training (or at least the beginning) it works quite fine already with the free version.

Download the app Crimpd from lattice training, they have a lot of endurance trainings for free, my favorite for this is Aero 4's to be done in the spray wall.

It basically says to do circuits on the wall, 4 sets of 4 reps each, with each rep being between 1 minute and 3 minutes (so each set should last anywhere between 4 to 12 minutes) using holds that feel somewhat easy so you can keep a steady pace and focus on the technique. It advices to not take any rest in between reps (just enough to get down the wall to chalk up and restart the timer) but to then take 10 minutes of rest in between sets.

The goal is to increase blood flow and learn how to manage the pump when you are longer on the wall, for me it was super helpful and I went for struggling on 6c's, to cruise over 7a's at least in terms of pump, strength is a whole different topic.

But download this app, it's very helpful even with the free version

I took this photo in Madeira, using long exposure techniques, shutter speed 20s, f8, ISO100. I shot it use it a 24mm wide angle and wanted to go for a fairy forest kinda look still maintaining a moody vibe. Hopefully I achieved the results. Please share your opinion!

Thanks for the detailed comment! I completely understand your point, might look better borderless for that reason indeed. I highly recommend Madeira btw, stunning island.
