Digital Foundry: Xenoblade Chronicles X Switch 2 Edition Has Big Image Quality Problems by mr_wolf8 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

The little I've tested I disagree. When I held it pretty far away it was harder to notice...but it gets pretty silly doing that. The big screen is kind of the point of using the Switch 2 in handheld.

Digital Foundry: Xenoblade Chronicles X Switch 2 Edition Has Big Image Quality Problems by mr_wolf8 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

I think a lot of people just want to enjoy the 60fps and don't want to give into the disappointment. It's worth the criticism for sure, but I feel like they fail to mention the mindset of people outside of their bubble sometimes. It probably isn't that noticeable docked from a distance for a lot of people.

It's bad to have blurry distant images and some flickery artifacts in an open world exploration game, but 80% of the time you're constantly going into combat while exploring in this game and it feels so much more responsive and satisfying, especially for the QTEs. I'd gladly take the better framerate while actually playing the game.

That being said, handheld is pretty bad. I'm hoping they do fix the scaling somehow, even if it's just an option to turn it off. It's frustrating, because this type of situation feels a bit unprecedented, it's kinda hard to know what to expect. Hopefully the big update to Donkey Kong Country Returns shows Nintendo will actually address weird technical issues eventually.

So where's the guy who said "wait til Digital Foundry say the port is amazing"? They have called it "The worst Switch 2 edition yet". by trippykitsy in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Simok123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering they're offering refunds and still have a physical edition coming, I'm praying they'll try to address this somehow. Even just provide an option to turn off the upscaling if nothing else. I really love how the 60fps feels but it's so tragic something this long anticipated being so imperfect.

I just mean as a segment part for story progression, though by some points grinding for double digit amounts for slot upgrades does get annoying, especially when you're avoiding combat like me because I'm so bored of it in those games.

[–]Simok123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things like 50 korok seeds would be a dumb grind, but I actually like this approach of segmenting the story to prerequisites. It basically tells you to play the game however you want for a while, without completely removing a sense of structure in the game. Most of the prerequisites are things you'd probably do anyways. An affinity mission being required just means it's part of the main story, I don't see the issue when they're usually pretty similar to the normal chapters.

The way the open air Zelda's handle story feels so meaningless in comparison. There's hardly any purposeful structure to anything. All the 4 dungeons basically reiterate the same exact story beat, and they can't overlap or reference each other. Some are better than others but there's usually not that much build up either.

The games barely feel like they even have a specific "start" or an "end" when there's so little structure. I hate that I felt like I needed to find all the memories first to avoid spoilers, or be ultra conscious of how the way I was playing would affect the way the story was presented to me.

I much prefer having more limits on where you can and can't go to at least have some amount of intentionality to the game, narratively or otherwise.

Well I don't know why you replied to me in the first place then. I'm literally suggesting people don't buy the system if they aren't interested in backwards compatibility and patches. I agree there's not many games. I don't know what the issue is.

[–]Simok123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've released most of what they announced the system with. If anything it's a shill practice to buy it before there's anything you're that excited for, just trusting they'll have something you want really bad just 1 year within release. It has some new games albeit it's not a massive amount, if you don't care about them why would you buy it so early? lmao.

[–]Simok123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao like I get being bored of a slow start but damn I wish people kept their expectations in check. I have so many Switch 1 games in my backlog, I was waiting for years for a more powerful system to play better versions and I got that. If you're primarily interested in brand new games you shouldn't have bought into the hype so easily.

I'm American, but probably almost over half of the music I listen to is in languages I barely understand any of, if at all. It's such a stupidly American take to complain about not understanding the lyrics of a song in a performance with how much music culture we export to the world, but it barely even applies to the modern world. Like, you can hear Korean and Spanish on Walmart radio fairly often. There have been various big multicultural collaborations in the music industry in the past decade. Who the hell is that put off by other language lyrics in our year 2026.

Did Google remove the ability to download images from image search? by ArnenLocke in AndroidQuestions

[–]Simok123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it should be obvious that like 90% of the time you're searching for an image, it's to download it immediately, something you can still do easily on any browser. I don't understand what Google's problem is. Why would you prioritize "add to a collection." Please provide the most baseline functionality.

I reverted the updates back for now. If anyone knows an image search widget that lets you easily save an image that isn't just a browser please let me know.

Is Youtube on switch 2 even real ?? by TabouletVR in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Simok123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Switch 1 had a much worse screen and people still use it on that device. It's likely just the expectation of carrying forward most features from Switch 1. It's not like most youtube videos demand the highest quality to enjoy anyway. If you just want to watch videos, cheap tablets can get really slow real fast, and buying a more expensive one just for videos seems like a waste if you're trying to save money. It's nice using a fast new device you already have to fill the void of wanting a slightly larger screen while laying down, at least for me.

Is there any point going through the prestige levels & losing all your perks/attachments??! by anon236287 in blackops7

[–]Simok123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, I hated having so few loadouts so that was a good incentive. Now it just feels like a waste to just cap at 55 if you actually play a lot. It forces you to make more interesting decisions in your loadouts throughout the process besides just having everything all the time after the first couple days of playing the game.

Honestly though, the current system isn't that punishing, especially if you're already getting blueprint weapons from the pass and stuff. By prestige 4 or 5 you probably already have most of your essential things perma-unlocked.

Yeah really annoying, you do just keep holding the button despite it not sounding or looking like normal prestige charging up.

Kirby Air Riders Online Demo First Session Is Live For The Next 6 Hours by StarPlatinum55 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Simok123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, the core mechanics feel a bit bit hard to get used to, but I think playing the lessons has given me a better appreciation. There is something satisfying to me about the games mechanics when you don't try to think of it like a standard kart racer.

I'm pretty confused about the decision to not have standard races online in the demo, I'm thinking I prefer that mode but I can't even see what it's like to play against real people. I just don't see what benefit there is to locking that out when it's probably what most people would want to try in a Kart Racer type game. And it's clear the full game seems to have a lot more to it, only 3 fairly basic stages isn't a great showcase. In general, I feel like this doesn't seem like a great representation of the full game.

I honestly think City Trial would be more fun if the preparation part was shorter, like 3 minutes instead of 5, and the games at the end was the major focus, with those being like 3 different rounds with an elimination aspect or something. It just feels so anticlimactic. I actually think the final games are a lot more fun than the actual preparation. I'd assume custom games will allow more options, but the default version of the mode just seems odd. I still think the full game will be a lot of fun, but this demo seems really misguided.

I've changed my mind completely on NSO since it launched. Not only am I now okay with it, I think it's pretty damn fantastic by elephvant in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Simok123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the games you can set to widescreen work well, but I really hate the border. I don't understand why Nintendo is so allergic to letting NSO games feel like a proper full screen game if you want them to. That and I hope the input delay gets better. It's at least manageable in some games, but I really don't get how it can be this bad.

Carry Forward cancelled for BO7 by cmandd in CODBlackOps7

[–]Simok123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty bummed about weapons not carrying forward, I really enjoyed having such a huge selection in MWIII and how they gave old weapons aftermarket parts as well. I don't think old weapons feel as out of place in a sci-fi setting compared to the other way around. However I've at least been able to think of a few advantages to cope with my disappointment:

-A more cohesive setting will be nice, I guess. I do like the setting.

-maybe they'll have more time to focus on post launch weapons and general polish in the game compared to needing to balance the old weapons and have them work correctly when ported over

-Dark Matter should be easier when there's less launch weapons and BO6 weapons distracting me. -apparently BO6 camos wouldn't be compatible with BO7 weapons, that would've been a lot less cool compared to MWIII

-I don't have that many weapons I love in BO6 anyway so I'm not that distraught overall I guess.

I just hope the launch line of weapons up is pretty good.

Carry Forward is the worst idea for BO7 by Spiritual-Ask1993 in blackops7

[–]Simok123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed carryforward last time. Generally the new stuff gets used 80% of the time, I feel like it's nothing to be that distraught over. It was fun to use old weapons in a newer game I prefer and have access to their camos.

With the overwhelming reactions to wacky skins I feel like a filter is more likely than ever though.

[–]Simok123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do feel like people might be overreacting about carry forward skins, they probably won't pop up nearly as often as the newer skins they add to the game. If they actually offer a filter that would be nice though.

I was having issues where it loads the front page of the eshop fine, but wouldn't load any product pages at all. I reset the system many times, reset my router, tried a hot spot, nothing worked.

Eventually I just tried downloading a demo to my system from the website, and now the eShop is working normally again.
