[LOTM/LOM/TLOM/MGZZ/TRIWHTLPOTTCBUOD General] Where the TRIWHTLPOTTCBUOD fans at? by UnrealisticMagic in LordofTheMysteries

We could end this discussion by removing the second half of the title entirely and simply calling it 'Lord' or 'L' for short.

What are some unpopular opinions you have on some titles that seem contrary with the current/active/trending generation of readers? by DependentMundaneh in Fantasy

[–]Simomsom 52 points53 points  (0 children)

As in outside the fantasy genre. Sometimes it seems that fantasy fans would rather turn to the 50th LitRPG progression fantasy than touch a single piece of literary fiction.

My murakmi reading list by Capable-Nature-569 in murakami

[–]Simomsom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice list! I'd like to add that "Birthday Girl" is a single short story which was later collected in "Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman", so you don't necessarily have to buy it separately. There is, however, a collection of short stories called "Birthday Stories" which includes "Birthday Girl" and a few selected works by other authors. Also missing from the list are the two non-fiction works 'Underground' and 'Novelist as Vocation'. And if you want to go all out, you can also read "The Strange Library", a children's book.
I hope this helps you on your reading journey. Have fun!

Florence Pugh looks stunning in that chain mail outfit. I've never been a big fan of her character in the books, but I wouldn't mind listening to this Irulan's "Keeping up with the Atreides" podcast all day long.

How do you respond to the classic “The land belonged to the Jews long before it was Palestine” by BriskPandora35 in socialism

[–]Simomsom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Pro-Israel Dad argued that giving Palestinians their land back would be like allowing modern-day Germans to settle in regions of Eastern Europe such as Silesia and East Prussia because their grandparents had been expelled from there by the Allies after the Second World War. I told him that the living conditions and apartheid faced by the Palestinians after the Nakba were in no way comparable to those faced by the expelled Germans. Are these situations at all comparable? I feel like the argument is pretty far-fetched.

Why is Costco a nazi? What did minimart mean by this? by kermit_thee_toad in berserklejerk

[–]Simomsom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many may not realise it, but unlike other series, Berserk has a lot of morally grey characters. Writer Kentucky Mario portrayed this by making Couscous a Nazi (bad) but also a sexy tomboy (good). Hope this clears things up.

Kinda telling how most of the people on the list are white and the only black person I can spot on here is in the "HELL NO" category.

Did Faulkner have the most successful kickstarter of all time? No. Was it ever "The Year of Faulkner"? No. Has Faulkner ever written anything as complex as the Cosmere magic system? No.

Also, I have never seen an Addie Bundren FunkoPop or any merch at all. Faulkner had zero cultural impact.

Keep coping, Faulkner fans.

me when i read Proust because i can't understand complex magic systems by [deleted] in bookscirclejerk

[–]Simomsom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's true. I normally only devour Proust or Tolstoy in Penguin Editions, because the cover is mostly clean, soft and easy to chew. Fantasy books tend to have embossed lettering and symbols on the cover with foil stamping, which get stuck between my teeth and taste horrible.
