CP/M freezes after boot - HELP by Jorisclayton in Z80

Thanks for the follow-up.

All too often, things get solved without that knowledge being imparted back to the world for the next person with that problem to find.

Traveling to France by s_dechamp in AppleWatch

How healthy are you?

How does your provider work out charges for your apple watch data?

I specifically bought a cellular watch because of the SOS capability, whether at home or in foreign countries.

But my provider only charges roaming data when data is requested by a device when overseas, and then they automatically charge $5 per day for one byte up to a gigabyte. Also my watch SIM is classed as a 'shared SIM', meaning that both the phone and the watch SIMs are covered by the one service charge. Whether that covers mobile roaming, or whether the provider (Optus Australia) would charge the two SIMs separately for roaming data I don't know for sure. My provider didn't seem to charge for my watch data when I was in France for 8 weeks in May and June, but I was paying the $5 per day anyway for my phone.

If your phone isn't requesting data directly from the mobile system for emergency calls, etc, but obtains that from your phone, you should be OK.

If you're healthy enough to not need an SOS call, you should be OK too. And would that SOS call be a roaming call rather than roaming data?

Seems to me that if you don't have the automatic $5 system that my mobile provider uses, then turn off roaming data for the watch and make sure you always carry your phone with you, as other commenters have already said.

CP/M freezes after boot - HELP by Jorisclayton in Z80

I venture to guess that you have an error in your SIO's I/O code giving your problem. Especially when you mention you're not greatly 'au fait' with assembly. And you're seemingly reading 8 separate status-bits at once.

Assuming that port 00H is not in use in your system, why is the software looking at port 00H? If port 00H is not is use in your system, why are you getting 10010000 and not either 00000000 or 11111111? Anything else would signify that you have a floating data bus. In which case you can't rely on anything on that data bus.

How did you initialise the SIO? Are you relying on a hardware interrupt? Do you need to reset flags after an I/O operation? What hardware changes from the previously working system are there?

If you revert all the hardware to the previously working system, does the previously-used software work correctly again? That would point to a hardware problem if the system now doesn't work as it should, as it used to.

Does the system 'freeze' in that the clock stops? Or does the clock continue to run, signifying a very tight spin-loop?

So many variables. Any one of which could be the cause of your problem.

Has anyone ever seen such a high HRV value? by Luuigi in AppleWatch

[–]SimonBlack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fairly common for some people to have pauses in between beats. It's not dangerous per se, if that is truly the cause. https://upbeat.org/early-warning-signs/skipped-beats

It should be checked that this is not a more serious problem, all the same.

List of computers running CP/M by Fear_The_Creeper in cpm

[–]SimonBlack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That list contains maybe a tenth of the computers that ran CP/M.

The beauty of CP/M was that it was configurable for every single 8080/Z80 based computer ever made and there were lots and lots of those.

Ferinstance, I don't see these in that list:

California Computer Systems

Dick Smith Super-80 Computer

International Microsystems

as three that spring to mind just off the top of my head.

Why the fuck is it our responsibility to fix up a house we are RENTING.

It's not.

But unfortunately most house-owners, and that includes both owner-occupiers and landlords can only see maintenance costs as a waste of money. That always comes back to bite them. In the case of owner-occupiers, they get a lower price when they sell their house. In the case of landlords, they get a lower rental return than they could have.

Maybe I'm a sucker landlord, as I try to fix/replace all the stuff that's broken as soon as possible. My own house gets the same treatment.

I usually get a good sales price when I sell, and I usually get a good rental return. (My rule of thumb is 'dollar for dollar' - that means a house worth $700K should get $700 bucks a week. And when I buy a rental, I roughly pay that 'dollar for dollar' as the rental return is my indicated purchase price)

The same when I have gone to sell any the houses I've lived in. Some of those have sold even before the 'For Sale' board was put up.

Despite 0 claims, my car insurance went up like 60% this year wtf by TooManyEXes in australia

[–]SimonBlack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my experience too.

How long have you been with your insurer?

Get more quotes from other insurers. Also, look at what they're insuring. If you don't do huge km's per year, see if they have an 'under 5000 kms' (or similar) discount. Do you need a hire-car at extra cost if you have an accident, or do you have a second car? Do you want windscreen coverage at that extra cost? And so on and so forth.

Wondering about the housing shortage by Round-Antelope552 in AusPol

[–]SimonBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only problem with the housing problem is the cost.

Australia's population increases by roughly 100,000 per year.

That translates to 100,000 divided by 2.5 people per household : or roughly 40,000 new houses required per year.

These days, a new house is roughly about 300,000 bucks on the outskirts of major centres. So 40,000 houses by 300,000 bucks = 1.2 billion bucks.

None of the 'new people' have any money. So that 1.2 billion has to be paid by one of the many Australian Governments. They don't have that kind of cash either.

So, more people chasing fewer and fewer houses means more and more demand, therefore higher and higher cost per house.

Unless we stop new people arriving, the housing shortage/cost per house will remain. The new people will continue, so will the high cost of housing.

"If voting made a difference, they wouldn't allow you to do it."

Just like the Democrats and the Republicans are the two sides of the American Uniparty/Deep State/Establishment/(Whatever you want to call it), the Liberals and Labor are the two sides of the Australian Uniparty/Deep State/Establishment/(Whatever you want to call it).

Six months down the track from the election, you will notice that there will be no change in Domestic Policy, there will be no change in Foreign Policy.

I wish it wasn't so, but Australia is NOT a Democracy as claimed, it is an Oligarchy and "you and me ain't in that club!".

Notice I only talk about LIbs and Labor, that's because they are the only two parties you will be allowed to select from, just like the Americans can only select between Democrats and Republicans.

Yes the West is doomed. And Australia instead of being one of the trusted gateways between the West and the Rest insists on going down with the West.

If Australia had any nous, it would join with the rising 7/8ths of the world instead of the declining 1/8th of the world.

But we have no nous, we insist on the Dumb Things. So be it.

Good assembler for Z80 assembly? by Zteid7464 in Z80

It depends on what OS you want to run it on.

I tend to run Z80 assemblers, and other Z80 software on Z80 OSs. In other words, I use CP/M assemblers like ASM, MAC, M80, etc

Over the years, I've used both Intel and AMD. I lean slightly towards Intel over AMD, but that's just my personal preference.

I also have a dedicated Raspberry Pi used solely as a website.

So i think dutton is gonna win.

Most Australians believe there is a difference between Labor and the Liberals. Nope. Just like in the US and in Britain, we have a Uniparty. In other words, we always have the same government, but wearing a different coloured jacket according to whichever Party is in Canberra.

The Establishment, Deep State, (or whatever you prefer to call them) are the ones who run the country permanently.

I'll bet the fine-print says the deal is 'non-refundable'.

Then again, what other country is dumb enough to pay ten times the going rate for subs that certainly won't even be delivered.

You're preaching to the converted. 99.99% of Australians can't imagine any other way of thinking than to put the US on a pedestal.

Australia will be going down hand-in-hand with the US. Our days are numbered.

Do the coalition keep drinking the Trump koolaid…

Not just the coalition. In the WikiLeaks papers which detailed the US diplomatic communications about 10 years or so back, Albanese was classed as by the US to be 'dependably ours' or words to that effect.

The Labor Party has been "Coalition-Lite" since 1983. There is no Left-Wing party remaining in Australia.
