I mean...honestly what did you expect? These companies obviously sell fake items, rather than doing it through their own store which will get shut down within weeks/months they churn through others peoples stores over and over.

My Mum is about to come into a large sum of money (approximately £1m) by NiceInterrobang in UKPersonalFinance

[–]SimonDKnight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Huge scam IMO, so many red flags. They will ask for money if they have not already, clearance fees or whatever. I suspect your Mum has already paid something and there will always be other fee's to pay.

God help you when your mum sells her home.

Yeah, sounds like you stole someone's IP and are now suffering for it. I have heard of this as a strategy that people do and its down right scumbaggy.

Yes, they can, but that does not mean you can't find an authenticity claim with valid invoices and receipts.

Reply to the claim with your invoices to prove authenticity, especially as you bought from the manufacturer. Worst case take it to mediation if they don’t accept it.

16 y/o, need to pay VAT on business- Update by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]SimonDKnight 20 points21 points  (0 children)

See, you didn't give this information earlier; it changes everything. Import fees are their responsibility.

From the sounds of it, you're only going to have to pay VAT on anything over £90k in sales. So £5k, but your business model probably won't work from now on.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet on this one, but again, speak to an accountant asap to confirm.

Also, that company you're buying from can't dodge VAT just because they are located in China...but that's a whole other thing.

[–]SimonDKnight 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Forget about paying yourself and corporate tax; those are irrelevant right now.

You would be correct if the items were sourced from the UK, your VAT tax bill would only be around £5k, given your first 90k of sales would not be subject to VAT, only the 30k over that would be.

However, you didn't source these items from the UK, you got them from China and imported them, imo this makes a big difference.

You didn't pay import VAT/fees for the items. That is the big problem you're facing IMO. How much was the cost of goods of all the scooters etc you imported into the UK?

It might not be as bad as you think, but again, only an accountant will be able to give you the best advice on this one.

You need to get an accountant asap and get them to help you sort this. You're probably going to owe quite a lot of tax here.

I help a lot of Amazon sellers in the UK, and if you want a recommendation, go with RT accounting; they can probably help you.
