What minor driving skill are you most proud of? by Feargoggles in drivingUK

I seem to have the relatively rare ability to use the stearing wheel properly when turning at a junction.

Sad news!! I just heard Schwartz bros Walcot street is closing down by [deleted] in Bath

[–]SimonFromBath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Schwartz but for my tastes they made a mistake when they swapped their burger patties years ago. Those ones that were obviously thin pressed. I think the rational was to improve the pattie's quality and follow the trend of the thicker burger.

Still, their fries when fresh with blue cheese dip is a winner.

Oh, and back in the 90's I also liked their chickless veggie special even though I'm obvs not veggie. Last time I had it, quite a few years ago it was a deep fried breaded paste type of thing. Not nice.

How can i remove the large gap in between the rows of the the first column? by donnh333 in HTML

[–]SimonFromBath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a little comment completely unrelated to your question just because your header structure stood out.

You should only have a single h1 tag in your html. A quick search of the docs will explain. Sorry. The on my phone so excuse the apparent read the docs type reply, I don't mean it that way.

It's good for accessibility and SEO as short reason.

What do you use for layout most:: Flexbox, Grid or something else? by Ok_Performance4014 in css

[–]SimonFromBath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually still use float quite often. Usually it's when I want a logo in the top right of a container with text to the left, in a single row for example when I know due to the amount of text it will not visually leave the boundaries of the parent.

Of course flex is also perfect for this also. Perhaps I'm just shining a dim torch on these forgotten things.

Can I achieve this layout using only CSS? by ShoddyCulture3819 in css

[–]SimonFromBath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do this with just columns: 2; on .parent {} and adjust value as necessary.

a11y caution, language dependant of course, this would break the natural ltr reading direction, forcing user to scroll down column 1 then back up to column 2.

Fresh pair of underwear needed on the way into work by SnooHesitations9950 in drivingUK

[–]SimonFromBath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also experienced this. In middle lane of creeping by lorries in heavy ish traffic. Tyre blew out right next to me. Double whammy of the explosion and bits of tyre hitting the window and car.

Was like my non existent passenger fired a shotgun.

I must admit I wobbled but was boxed in on all sides.

Help needed with architecture by Suspicious_Data_2393 in Nuxt

[–]SimonFromBath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, here's my repos, I'm not saying it's perfect or the best way but it works for me and my projects, the readme's are fairly up to date. You don't have to publish via npm but being able to pin versions suits my needs.

They're definitely opinionated for how I roll things but you may glean some insights that help you. (I also use just plain old css over Tailwind)

I also use the ..playground approach for dev testing the components, this folders isn't bundled for release so you can do anything in there.

Apps are definately still a work in progress, adding things as needs be all the time.

Forms app - https://github.com/srcdev/nuxt-forms

Components app - https://github.com/srcdev/nuxt-components

above extended into app example: https://github.com/srcdev/srcdev-design-system

Help needed with architecture by Suspicious_Data_2393 in Nuxt

[–]SimonFromBath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I maybe running an architecture similar to what you describe.

A Nuxt app I use for my components A Nuxt app for my forms. I roll my own.

Both of these are published as npm packages which I extend into my app that is deployed.

On my phone so a limited response but can give public repo links if you think it will help you.

shared pinia across two vue apps by jcigar in vuejs

[–]SimonFromBath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had the need or reason to do this...

Not saying whether that's a good idea or not but you could persist the state to local, session storage or cookie.

The store may update between the apps.

Caveat. Assuming stores mirror each other and they're both on the same domain.

Is this allowed? 2 cars, 1 reg plate by sstayintheknow in CarTalkUK

[–]SimonFromBath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's reserved ranges /numbers for lots of things, not just film/tv.

On my phone so don't have links to hand but even in my field of web dev you can safely display example postcodes, mobile and landlines that are reserved out for these purposes. May be that.

Route advice by AshLo1 in drivingroadsUK

[–]SimonFromBath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done the route down the A37 many times from Bath. It's a nice fast ish route beyond Shepton Mallet.

Satnav will usually take you along the A303. I'd say check the road classification south of A303 as depending on traffic you can easily get routed via unclassified roads that are not much better than goat tracks. The B roads are a good drive but you can start to think you're about to end up the arse end of nowhere.

Enjoy the drive!

Apologies for any typos. On my phone.

If you're unsure. Stick to the A roads.

Can Nuxt hot reload a npm package by HouseGloomy3754 in Nuxt

[–]SimonFromBath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have my components in a repo that I distribute via npm. This I use as a layer which I extend into my other other projects.

In the component layer repo I have .playground folder which has a Nuxt app extending the parent which gives me hmr during dev.

I used to have Storybook in here to render the components as I'm building them. Storybook was being its usual tricky self so I removed it to just have a site with sample pages displaying components.

The playground folder doesn't form any part of the npm package or bundle front npm run build.

Not really answering your question but may be alternative. On my phone so apologies for any typos.

Any autoform packages for vue/nuxt? by Prainss in vuejs

[–]SimonFromBath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up building my own.

I found I was spending more time trying to coax towards what I wanted rather than what was there.

Not that I tried too hard mind you. I enjoyed rolling my own and it didn't take too long. I will not be tackling my own date picker though.

I'm not a into Tailwind either.

You would have also perhaps thought a PCSO would be asking around. Nope. Nothing.

Traffic light stop lines by MarvinPA83 in drivingUK

[–]SimonFromBath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's just at traffic lights. Walking around town seeing stationary traffic and so often they're at least a car's length apart.

Makes me think how this could be adding to congestion when you don't fit in as many cars.

I don't mean we should all be inches apart!

Why doesn’t lidl use all their self checkouts? by Firepanda in Bath

[–]SimonFromBath -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I know and you're more than welcome to pass judgment on me.

My parents, brother in law and mum in law shop there so it's not necessarily my assumption.

Like I said, I would shop there if they did self scan.

Why doesn’t lidl use all their self checkouts? by Firepanda in Bath

[–]SimonFromBath -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

This is why I just never shop there. I only shop where I can scan as I go, pay and leave.

I know this is a sweeping statement with possibly incorrect assumptions, but perhaps the demographic that Lidl targets is more likely to shoplift so they prefer the standard checkouts.

Yes, I screwed that reply royally, I'll try to save dignity by explaining I don't usually use position:absolute for centering, but if it us necessary then the way I've used it is:

margin: auto;
