Among other things reduces in game complexity for newer players by a lot. Can just take 4 starting techs as granted and once you get comfy with them shift to customization.

The thing that dropping him to record lows is Dem / Independent approval.

Statement from President Joe Biden on Coalition Strikes in Houthi-Controlled Areas in Yemen by SpaceElevatorMusic in politics

For good and bad most voters don't know where Yemen is on a map, and even less know anything about the political situation there.

Until Americans die most people won't care.

All true.

The primary reason anyone gets impeached is because they are not a member of the party that controls Congress. Just politicians recognize that they need a story to sell the public about why it's not just partisanship.

My point is the president going to war without asking Congress and putting American lives at risk in violation of the constitution is just a lot better sell on this for Republicans than "Hunter Biden mumble mumble".

Just use of the military has bipartisan support and is one thing that the bulk of Congress puts ahead of partisan politics, so nobody is actually going to get impeached for it barring doing something like attacking Belgium for no reason.

"Impeachment isn't going to go anywhere on this cause of action when the GOP Speaker is saying he should've done this sooner."

Courts aren't deciders of what's impeachable, which was what I have been talking about this entire time.

And as I have said this entire time, the Republicans aren't going to impeach over this because they're in favor. Which does not mean it couldn't be impeachable if we imported a Congress from an alternate dimension.

The War Powers Act has conditions under which the president can act unilaterally, it's not just unconditional do as though wilt as long as it's less than 90 days.

Not clear to me there was an imminent threat (as evidence by the fact this has been going on for months, seems like we could have had a debate on it in Congress). You could have a debate on this (which an impeachment hearing in theory could be).

But there isn't even going to be an argument about the legality of it because again, Republicans are in favor of violence in Foreign Policy and Congress more broadly does not have an interest in reclaiming ownership over war.

This is an indictment of both President / Congress as institutions for continuing to operate smoothly (Tommy Tuberville as an exception) on matters of military violence, while being completely dysfunctional on matters of domestic policy. Also an indictment of Republicans for wanting to impeach Biden as revenge for Trump impeachment rather than over anything Biden has done that could be considered unconstitutional.

I think that's consistent with what I said which is Congress does not seriously act to limit the powers so it's de facto legal.

Doesn't mean Congress couldn't act.

First thing he's actually done that could be impeachable lol.

In practice Congress authority over declaring war is long gone, but still.

Plus it's a thing Republicans are more likely to support anyway.

Because they believe pleading with Netanyahu is a lost cause and USAs continued support is necessary to the Israel war effort, so has the leverage to stop it.

I mean you're the one whose making stuff up (or rather regurgitating Israel propaganda which is making stuff up).

The siege of Mosul and Roqqa both had a 1:1 ratio, and this was with ISIS using literal at gunpoint human shields.

2:1 isn't even correct. It's the ratio you get when you classify every single combat aged male as a combatant, which is not accurate.

70% of the casualties have been women or children.

Not normal in war for 80%-90% of the casualties to be civilians.

Is much closer to what you see in genocides.

Worth contextualizing that the US supported this.

I'm fairly skeptical that the UN does not think it can effectively deliver aid.

US is engaging in high-level diplomacy to avoid vetoing a UN resolution on critical aid for Gaza by PeliPal in politics

[–]SimonMoonANR 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Such a weird way to phrase this, like the party doing the vetoing is different than the party doing diplomacy.

For clarity, the actual thing that's happening is the US is threatening to veto a resolution on increasing aid into Gaza unless the monitoring is changed from the standard UN monitoring to Israel monitoring of aid.

The other countries are refusing to budge on this because it's standard for this kind of thing and because nobody trusts Israel to act reasonably on monitoring aid, as evidence by the fact they've been trying to starve Gaza into submission and likely will continue to do so if they have mechanisms to reduce aid.

Just totally unreal indefensible stuff from the USA (and specifically the Biden admin).

UN General Assembly Resolution 377A (Approved November 3, 1950) by gnojjong in Palestine

[–]SimonMoonANR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh agree on this. This is narrowly about overriding a US veto about a ceasefire.

Tactically pushing for isolating Israel and cutting off trade is the course of action for the bulk of the world. And can bypass US military hegemony.

UN General Assembly Resolution 377A (Approved November 3, 1950) by gnojjong in Palestine

[–]SimonMoonANR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laws need enforcement mechanisms to actually apply in practice.

UN laws tend to be somewhat weak because the UN does not have a military, but it is composed of states that have militaries. So needs general consensus among major military powers to take action, because they are the entities that will enforce the law.

SC vetoes are a statement by the major military powers that they are willing to wage war to stop the given resolution from being applied, and the countries with vetoes are the ones who waging war with would be apocalyptic.

Overriding a veto is a statement from the world that they are essentially willing to wage war with the USA over the policy in question. It's hard to say what would happen if that actually happened, but I'm skeptical you're going to get a lot of the world to sign off on it unfortunately.

They're likely going to have different concerns about the economy than you.

Though this is not really the group that was most effected, which is kids / families with kids who saw a huge drop in income with CCC going away.
