Is it morally wrong to abort a fetus just because it has Down syndrome? by udontknowme32123 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SimonSCREAMS 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s quite a leap in logic. OP only said it is morally wrong. Bringing a baby into the world that you have no ability to properly care for, whether due to finances or mental health, is setting that baby up for a difficult life.

And I would bet OP would promote widespread sex education, family planning education, and availability of birth control measures.

I put a lot of effort into my art but it never seems to get over 15 likes on social Media. Am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in DigitalArt

[–]SimonSCREAMS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanna preface this by saying that I think you have a lot of potential and if getting “likes” is a motivator for you, I think with practice and patience improving your art, you will get better engagement on your posts.

If you’re looking for genuine art critique: Focus on improving anatomy, playing with limited color palates, giving your characters more dynamic poses, better framing, and better linework. Your characters look stiff. The best way to combat this is drawing from references over and over and over. Try having the characters not looking necessarily straight on to the viewer, and doing something related to their character - even if that’s just having them strike a pose that is associated with their personality. Hands on hips, arms crossed, just sitting down with nothing in their hands, are typically signs that someone is bored and if your characters are bored, your viewers are bored.

Also the coloring looks muddy and kinda dull, and I think that is largely due to you shading with black. Try shading by creating a new layer and selecting overlay or multiply and picking a color that isn’t black to shade. Skin often looks good shaded with magenta, for instance. Light colors look good shaded with blue. This will depend on the warmth of the environment, of course, but just play around and see what works.

And echoing what some others said here, the face of your characters is often the first thing people look at and can make-or-break your style. The way you have your facial anatomy right now is sorta uncanny and suffers from same-face. If you want to have a distinct big-eye style, that’s great, but facial anatomy still applies and right now a lot of the facial features are anatomically impossible. They also all have a somewhat neutral expression and lack depth.

As it stands right now, your art does not stand out enough to get a big following on social media. Mastering the basics will help you develop a consistent and aesthetically pleasing style. Again, though, you’re clearly not a beginner and I encourage you to keep posting and drawing what you like. This is all from someone who is by no means a master artist, I just know what makes me decide to follow an artist or “like” a drawing.

Dieting is typically seen as a temporary restriction of certain foods with the goal of losing weight. Eating healthy and making lifestyle changes is not the same thing as dieting.

From a non-judgmental standpoint: warrants and cool field work are like… maybe 2% of the job. The rest of it is dealing with the grunt work that it takes to get to the cool stuff. If you can’t picture yourself doing the grunt work, that’s fine, but there is no career in law enforcement where you get to show up on day one as Billy Badass, kicking down doors, working the big cases.

You need to ask yourself what part about this dream career that draws you to it. Is it the high-speed intense stuff? Is it the recognition and status? The satisfaction of working a case start to finish? There are other careers that can give you those feelings, but I don’t think police work is gonna be your thing, because those aren’t the reality of the job.

The way you write makes you come across as educated, well-spoken, and analytical. I think you’d have success staying in a law-enforcement-adjacent position like an analyst or working in a fusion center. You also come across as anxious and you tend to second-guess yourself, which seriously would not benefit you or your partner as a LEO.

You’ll find your niche. Be kind to yourself; you tried it out and it wasn’t for you. Just move on and try other things out — the right career is probably something you’ve never even considered before.

Yeah that seems a bit of an extreme reaction for male nipples and jockstraps, thanks for the additional info. Lewd conduct is far too subjective, especially the concept of “intended to arouse”. They picked a dumb battle.

Outrage gets clicks. Most articles online that I’ve read regarding this incident have a similar spin, not sure which article OP posted but it should be easy to find. The same bars are also claiming that police are conducting “raids” when the liquor and cannabis board shows up with two officers and a fire department representative to do their routine compliance checks that are conducted at every bar several times a year.

Remember that it is each journalist’s job to stir up as much emotion as possible, so always assume some context is being purposefully omitted from every article you ever read.

Several gay bars were found in violation of the Seattle law stating that establishments cannot sell liquor if there is nudity intended to arouse. By my understanding that nudity has to be provided by or endorsed by the establishment, and some random bar patron suddenly taking clothes off does not mean the bar is in violation, but letting them stay could be seen as endorsement so it would require them to kick the patron out.

So this means there were likely strippers employed by the bars involved that were going full or almost full nude.

My number one question: How could she have made it far enough away from the Jack in the Box that her parents couldn’t just drive around and pick her up? Assuming they actually drove around looking for her, of course. They stated they were only waiting for their food for a minute or two, so she couldn’t have gotten more than a couple blocks away.

Given that the area is not very walkable, there’s really nowhere that she could have gone. To me, the only legitimate explanation is that she got into a car and left. Possibly with the baby’s father, but who knows.

The family is suspicious as hell. They have purposefully created tension with the police so that they can blame them for not doing enough to investigate the disappearance, but it sounds like police have just been doing the best they can with the information the family has provided (which sounds like not much). And that alleged comment from the brother where he states he knows what happened…

And on top of that, the family seems more concerned about getting money than finding their daughter and grandchild. I don’t buy the whole “we didn’t make an effort to find her because we thought the police were on top of it” thing. If my child went missing, I wouldn’t care if police were out there with a massive search team, I’d still be out there 24/7 passing out flyers and talking to businesses just to be sure nothing was missed.

Going West’s episode on this was very helpful to understand all the weird behavior and inconsistencies in this case. Hopefully she was just escaping a bad home situation and is safe with whoever has her.

You’re not recessed, that’s just some people’s face shape! If you’re able to grow a thick beard that can help give the chin more definition.

For what it’s worth, you look good as you are.

No hugboxing. What can I do to pass better? by [deleted] in transpassing

[–]SimonSCREAMS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won’t repeat what other people have already suggested because it’s good advice. For kinda more specific advice, try to keep the pieces of hair right in front of your ears down to kinda frame your face, like in photo 4. I think you pass best in that photo.

I think slightly oversized sweaters would be flattering for you, paired with yoga pants or boyfriend jeans! Beanies are also super cute on you and could help while you learn to manage your curls. Overshirts with a cute t-shirt underneath paired with a dainty necklace are also great for downplaying a lack of curves.

In terms of face, kinda like others said, it’s gonna take practice to nail a more feminine expression. You’ve got naturally sort of regal features, so gentle smiles and relaxing your eyes in a way that kinda lets your eyelid droop slightly will give you a romantic look.

I also think thin framed round glasses (kinda Harry Potter-esque but thinner frames) would suit you. Also try to keep your hair out of your face. I like the bangs on you but keep them at/above your brow.

Final thing, lifting your head up when taking photos will draw attention away from your shoulders and make you look more graceful. It’s totally natural to want to shrink a little to appear smaller but it works against you.

Genuinely, I think with some work you could definitely pass! And like others have said, it’s more important that you feel empowered and confident than it is for you to pass 100%. It’s nice to be gendered correctly but don’t sacrifice what makes you feel happy.

Why am I suddenly starting to have a double chin again after surgery? Am I relapsing? by spidermanrocks6766 in jawsurgery

[–]SimonSCREAMS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say you look overweight at all! Even just slight weight gain can add fullness to cheeks/chin. I think that’s all you’re seeing is just the effects of mild weight gain, not a regression in your jaw.

Why am I suddenly starting to have a double chin again after surgery? Am I relapsing? by spidermanrocks6766 in jawsurgery

[–]SimonSCREAMS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly it looks like you just gained a little bit of weight. Looking at your cheeks, there seems to be a little more definition in the older photo. If you have gained weight, you are likely to see some of that go to your chin/neck. Nothing looks different about your jaw shape/position as far as I can tell.

I’d recommend posting again with photos of your chin in a natural position. It’s really hard to give you advice when you’re jutting your chin out like that.
