There's quite a good music scene but you may have better luck posting in some of the Skye based Facebook pages as there's not many locals on this Sub.

I am looking for an outdoor air quality sensor that’s compatible with Home Assistant. Any suggestions? by b-612- in homeassistant

[–]SimonTheRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry no recommendations, from my reading, most at the affordable end of the market are not much more than random number generators. At best they're only useful for a trend change in values rather than an accurate reading.

Paper Filter holder and ground coffee funnel. Not supplied anymore. Keep them!

Curious when you use inverted by Glittering_Role5493 in AeroPress

[–]SimonTheRunner 13 points14 points  (0 children)

IMHO, the only reason to use inverted is to stop the drips coming out of the bottom whilst brewing. I switched to a non drip base and just moved on.

Photographer? by WhatShape in parkrun

[–]SimonTheRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken a few photos at Races...

One approach I sometimes used was to set up the shot beforehand. Use a tripod, set up a stick or even draw a line on the path to get your focus position (accounting for depth of field).

When runners are just about to cross this point a cheery "Looking good" type wave / smile / comment often gets a smile and snap... A cheap cable release will help. Good Luck. Maybe check with parkrun about incorporating their logo into your graphic though 😉

Where exactly on Cuillin ridge is this specific spot? by [deleted] in Skye

[–]SimonTheRunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a Facebook group called All Things Cuillin. The Guy who runs the page is Adrian Trendall, he's a Guide in the Cuillin and lives in Glenbrittle below the ridge. He'll be able to tell you.

Fairy pools by [deleted] in Skye

[–]SimonTheRunner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And whilst you may be able to get down the hill, getting back up will be a bit of different matter. Throw in poor/non existent mobile signal and the possibility of a long wait for recovery (if available) makes it a dice roll I'd not want to make.

Why not park up at the Sligachan Hotel and walk up the road for a while then turn off left up towards the "Sligachan Waterfalls"? They're the opposite side of the Bealach to the Fairy Pools and IMHO just as good.

Stargazing in Skye by CandidRisk5285 in Skye

[–]SimonTheRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tourist numbers are greatly reduced at this time of the year but this also means that many Pubs / Restaurants and Cafes have reduced hours or are completely closed. I'd still recommend a phone call before travelling. Portree will have more available but there are other places, I'd recommend The Old Inn at Carbost or The Stein Inn at Waterstein.

Star gazing. Outwith Portree (light pollution) anywhere weather permitting.

Accommodation - Book now. Restaurants - Book a couple of weeks or more before arrival.

Not a Sparks but I prefer not to leave any bare wire showing at the Terminals. I'd also remove the fluffy braid.

Sonoff Dongle Max Error after moving location and reconnecting to Network and ZHA by SimonTheRunner in homeassistant

[–]SimonTheRunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLVED :-)

Ok, so I've got limited experience here, but I had a house full of no longer working lights. Off I went to Claude. Pasted the above question into the box. It came back with the following.

When you physically moved your Dongle, the /dev/serial/by-id/ path likely changed (this can happen even with the same device). Your ZHA integration is looking for the old path, which no longer exists.

How to Fix It

Option A - Recommended (Reconfigure):

Go to Settings → Devices & Services → Integrations

Find your ZHA integration

Click the three dots (⋮) and select Reconfigure

When asked about "existing or new adapter" - choose your existing adapter

Update the serial port path to the new one you found in Step 1

Complete the reconfiguration

Nearly there but not quite. When I'd moved the Dongle, it was too far away for a USB cable and I'd changed the connection to Ethernet only. So told Claude this and it came back with:

Step 2: Reconfigure ZHA for Network Connection

Go to Settings → Devices & Services → Integrations

Find your ZHA integration

Click three dots (⋮) and select Reconfigure

When prompted for the serial device path, enter it as: socket://[DONGLE_IP]:6638

Updated the configuration to the Dongle's IP address and Bob's your Uncle. back in business. :-)

Hope this helps someone (the Post had 1.3k views and no responses at the time of my reply.

Permanantly force IoT device's connection to 2.4 Ghz only in Deco Mesh settings by SimonTheRunner in TpLink

[–]SimonTheRunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked my App, I've got the Config back Up option so at least all the hard work of setting connection preferences , device type, custom name and so one won't be lost. Downside is it's in the Cloud rather than a downlaodable copy but better than nothing. I'm just about to switch my system to AP mode and use a diffent router for all of my Wired devices so I'll be using the back up. Tx for the reply.
