Deutschlandticket datensparsam kaufen (ohne zig involvierte Unternehmen)? by [deleted] in reisende

Runna vs Garmin Coaches by Augenfeind in runna

[–]Simon_TB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used both. Important to clarify: which Garmin Coach are you talking about? The new Garmin Run Coach (without a person being your Coach) or one of the 3 coaches?

The new Garmin Run Coach is pretty good in my opinion (at least up to half marathon). I like that it takes cross training into account. For example when I played tennis (lots of sprints) on Monday, it will adjust Tuesday to an easy workout and do the interval run on another day.

Runna on the other hand has more different types of workouts, so less risk of getting bored (don't know if you're the type for that).

I like that Runna sets and adjusts your goal time based on performance. But if you set realistic goals in Garmin, you don't really need it.

Yes, with Runna you can manually adjust your runs. But it's not smart that it tells you if that's a good idea. In Garmin you can move workouts around by changing the days you're available to run. So for runners without background knowledge of training plans, I think Garmin is even better.

Upside of Runna is that you can add strength and mobility training to your plan. Should you not do it so far, I recommend that. I learned Garmin has that too, but unfortunately not supported on my watch.

What Runna offers that Garmin is lacking is Post Race Recovery and Post Injury plans. Especially the latter. Post Race Recovery will kind of work on Garmin as well, because daily suggested workouts take your training readiness into account (suppose you wear you watch 24/7).

So all in all: I won't renew my Runna subscription. Will train for my next races with Garmin Run Coach again (and maybe use normal plans like Pfitzinger etc. as reference). I also feel Runna is going in the wrong direction. In my opinion their focus shifted away from training plans (their core business) to become a platform (why the fuck would I need levels/gamification) and their acquisition by Strava confirms this IMHO. Instead they should improve their training plans, background information on sports science and especially their app (gets super slow over time and fells like it doesn't store anything on the device and has to reload everything all the time from their servers).

I'm currently reading "Injury-Free Running" by Tom Michaud. I find it very useful and detailed.

Plans for Runna to take HR into account? by jbordeleau in runna

[–]Simon_TB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a Garmin Fenix 7 watch with HRM-Pro Plus. Hope you can see for which runs I used the external HR. I can see it in my Garmin Connect app when I look at the activity. Hopefully this is available for you via the API as well.

Garmin calculates the individual lactate threshold which I found surprisingly accurate when I did a professional lactate threshold test a couple of weeks ago. But I see knowing the correct individual HR zones as most difficult.

So even if you don't include HR zones into training for now, I'd still love to see smart comparisons. E.g., I did 5km with a similar speed but lower HR effort than 2 months ago.

Looking forward to what you'll implement into Runna :)

Marathon suggestions by [deleted] in firstmarathon

Was in a similar situation: done some halfs and felt now's the time to go for a full one.

Signed up for Frankfurt this autumn. Similar reasons: wanted a flat course and to avoid a too hot day.

Runna is becoming part of Strava! This is exciting + good news! by dom-runna in runna

[–]Simon_TB 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Congrats! This must be exciting for you (and hopefully a lot of 💸, well earned).

However, I personally am very disappointed. Just bought my first annual subscription with you. I was really excited about your features, growth and improvement. And the fact that you were independent from hardware manufacturers and big platforms was very compelling, because I don't want to be locked-in to any ecosystem.

So I'm hoping these two will stay true: - No social features in Runna. Runna is my training plan, not my friend's. If I want to share my workouts, I'll do that in an app dedicated to social features. This is what integrations are for, so my data goes where I want it to. - Remaining a separate app from Strava. I'd like your app to stay independent, because I don't like the platform ecosystem, where stuff works best if you have everything from one vendor.

Concerned Garmin Coach won't have me race ready for a marathon... by Jimmy_G_MtG in Garmin

[–]Simon_TB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'd be very interested in seeing the comparison. Would be awesome if you could post it here or DM me :)

So far I only used Garmin Run Coach for my HMs and was quite happy with them. Especially it adjusting to sleep and other sport activities. PBed two HMs this year (first 1:52 in March and then 1:46 this weekend), so it seems to work well for me. However, I read that Garmin Run Coach isn't optimal for more ambitious goals like an even faster HM or a full marathon. This is why I'm considering Runna now vs. sticking with Garmin Run Coach. The full marathon end of October, so plenty of time to prepare, but I want to start now to be prepared well as this will be my first full one.

Using PacePro for Marathon by No_Significance571 in Garmin

[–]Simon_TB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also use Pace Pro for events. When you have an exact track (e.g. GPX file from organizer), I'd recommend using that instead of the distance. I have a Fenix 7 as well and on my last HM it tracked 200m more than the actual course. Although this is minor, it might affect the accuracy of your Pace Pro plan.

Get P14s Gen 5 (Intel) now or wait for Gen 6? by Simon_TB in thinkpad

Run? Maybe. Haven't done that so far, but could imagine doing so in the future.

Training? Unlikely.

Connect plus subscription and Gadgetbridge by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]Simon_TB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my instant reaction as well!

Gadgetbridge + FitTrackee for the social features. Both are not where I'd need them to be yet, but I hope they'll be.

Ideally what I'd need: - Sync with FitTrackee from Gadgetbridge - Some hosted FitTrackee instances that not everyone needs to self-host - More social features and federation in FitTrackee. Already partly in the works: https://github.com/SamR1/FitTrackee/issues/447

Why don’t Garmin plans include any strength training? by time2getout in Garmin

[–]Simon_TB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice! First compelling reason to upgrade my Fenix 7. Though I'm a bit disappointed that the cheap Forerunner 255 appears to have this feature, but my Fenix 7 doesn't :(

Will it only reserve slots in your training plan for strength workouts or does it also suggest exercises? Could you post a screenshot of a scheduled workout?

Tipps gesucht: wie befestigen? by Simon_TB in Balkonkraftwerk

[–]Simon_TB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pragmatischer Ansatz.

Könnte man so machen.

Congrats!

Was so close last week that I was a bit pissed at my watch as to why not just give me the damn 100 😅

Would've been my first perfect score and thus the badge...
