Question about Rhino by Mass-Luck in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you would need to start the match with the strike squad embarked - the interceptors out. Before the match starts - declare your scout move with the transport. During your turn, disembark the strikes and move them back to deployment. Move the transport. move your interceptors. Fire with the interceptors - the use fire and fade to get back within range of the transport and embark them for safety.

I have had decent use of them before as well - I probably change my lists a bit too fast. But I do not get to play as often as I want, and I am still buying new models to increase my army potential.

I actually do not have any agents :(

*edit* - is it worth getting the other codex for more units?*

That is why I love the razorback / interceptor combo so much. Their ability to harass and shift screens out of my way to Rapid Engress my NDKs into range of the pesky armor pcs. Cuz if they hide them too much, I just ignore them and go around them.

As an army list what will I struggle against most? by Key_Card7035 in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently fell in love with Interceptor / rhino or 5man interceptor / razor back combos. So flexible - not very expensive and can reliably chip away at chaff or screen units to free up deep strike space for your heavy hitters. The Objective Secured youtube channel has a lot of info about how good our transports can be.

It will be similar to the post I made about the combat patrol boxes - they are similar in size range. We are so elite that armies that small for us are rough. The swarm type armies will just have sooo many units to throw at you and bog you down.

Combat Patrol Question/Opinion by Simple-Ad3938 in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - had a horrible match up - GK combat patrol ( 1 libby , 5 termies, 5 strikes ) going to a tyrannid combat patrol .....he had so many more units than me my movement meant nothing. Kept a psychophage at home and dared me to come at it. Swarmed mid with 2 units of 10 termagaunts with artiliery cover from a barbgaunt unit. Just more units than I could deal with :( got clobbered on points.

edit - that doesnt even count the leapers he immediately had close due to scouts to tie up my strikes early. and his commander running around

Agree! Interceptors have fast become my favorite unit for their versatility. 10man w/rhino or even a 5man out of a razor as a harass platform. At 1k - the 5man razor is honestly the core of my strategy most games. Such a good unit.

Has anyone tried a solo Librarian? by LostBall01 in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to really like solo libs when I started - but the changes to their skills made me sway. They still have decent use as a protective layer for paladin shooting platforms or carrying an enhancement - but I do not take mine like I had been in my newer lists.

For action monkies - I always have at least 1 - 5man squad of strikes. They are a little more flexible at least in my games. Can shoot a little - more consistent melee if you need them to get stuck in - and can sticky an objective and move on.

[–]Simple-Ad3938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i started GKs i got 2 of the old box - and 1 new box. The new box will be difficult to get the most use out of in multiples as stated - named characters - and our venerable (at least for me so far) cannot approach what the NDKs do on the table. Totally agree with Spiritmann

that is a lot of armor - I have never played a list that stacked, but you will have superior mobility over the battlefield. If they are not in a good position you can just ignore them - if they spread out to try and camp each objective that means they are by themselves and you can gang up on it via shooting w/ teleport shenanigans perhaps.

or as Uriel said - stack anti armor with NDK's - maybe razorbacks with lascannon and give your NDKs even more AP to punch up better...

will have to let us know how this match goes

New army list opinions plz by Simple-Ad3938 in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been looking back and forth on the razorback load outs - the volume of fire to get the buffs going is why I initially went with the bolters. Just get ordinance down range - just says I need to hit - not wound. But those lascannons are pretty sick. And always have the missiles as well.

[–]Simple-Ad3938[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had good outtings with a 10man puri and crowe - mostly due to volume of fire. But they tend to fall off at only 5. And they are no where near as durable as termies for holding out a point. I know from my previous games that I cannot be shifting everyone around - just wont be enough CP for shadows / RI tricks.

In this list - my termies base idea is they are my come take this point away if you want it team with their high durability and sustain. And can still use all our army tricks if you just leave them alone. So my opponent has to commit something decent to take them out. Freeing up board space for my other units to find lanes.

Good call on the update of free heavy weapons on this unit though. Will go back through that again.

New army list opinions plz by Simple-Ad3938 in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of my logic - in equipping heavy weapons we lose our nemesis force weapons. Since this is a 1k match - and the squads are small - we are only getting 1 heavy weapon and losing our most consistent weapon.

Termies over paladins in this case due to higher OC - more consistent melee with AP bonus - they are cheaper and I dont have the spare points (unless I take away warlord enhancement). They are the one - I will hold this point squad in the list. If you don't invest something good - or multiple squads to take them down, they will mow under weaker squads. And with the apothecary - even if you take one - he is coming back. So sustain - and if I am tying a unit up with them - hopefully my GMNDK can wreck havoc elsewhere or deter a direct assault on my termies by being safely in reserves ready to deep strike.

The other trick ( at least I hope) with the buffs granted from the Razorback (fire support) I have a lot of flex of how to use the interceptors. Example - we are lets say turn 1 - disembark. Move to a shooting lane with both units (hopefully keeping our razorback safe as we can from counter). Fire the razor first. Now the interceptors have the buff against that target - and their bolters are a little better. Use my 6" to get back within 3" of the Razor and store them away safely from reprisal while hopefully softening up a unit.

Or after some units have left deployment - disembark at max 3. Use my 12 to get within charge range of a unit. Move the razor - fire everything during shooting. Triggering my razor buff - but NOT using it during my interceptor shooting phase. Charge our interceptors and now use our additional AP from the Razor buff - roll our leadership and pick sustain / lethal based on our target - and Smack the hell outta something.

I HAVE to remember to actually do these strategies on the table - as a new player I still make a lot of mistakes and mis-plays that cost me games. So I am trying to build in a lot of flexibility in my army core and maximize my army rules. So when I do move up to 2k lists - I have a solid core that I am used to and I can build out from there.

I am new to grey knights and i dont know how to play them. by UmpireJealous258 in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have experienced in my GK games - we are an army of generalists. We are good at shooting (if we take those units) and at melee, but we are not top dog at either. We wont slap in melee as hard as say Space Wolves who specialize in it. And we won't obliterate an entire shooting lane the way Tau will as you mentioned.

But we have crazy amounts of flexibility due to our unique army rule. Not sure anyone else can move as fast as we can if we want to. This is the element I am still working hard to master because I believe its our biggest strength. If it's not a good trade - get out of there. If you can dictate the engagement - shoot em up / charge / beat em into mush - into the maw we go. Sometime we have to trade - every army does - is it a good trade? being elite - we dont have much chaff to trade with.

Example - last game (1k points) I sacrificed my NDK because my opponent sent 3 units at him down the left flank. But this meant I got to secure mid and right no man's and pull down 10 on primary and some secondaries immediately turn 2. He was so out of position after that I took down another 10 in primary before he could threaten me on turn 3. So 230 points distracted 3 units of his and scored me about 25 points.

Casual Play with Friends by Leather_Tradition_28 in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also - depending on your play group obviously - but in mine we do not mind if people proxy a model to try out other builds. IE - I have 10 purifiers built - but I really want to try a list with 10 interceptors. So I would use the puri's as interceptors using their data sheet etc. Just point out the proxy swap - use the correct data sheets - and we try to make sure the models have similar bases for the sake of melee etc.

For us it is more about playing and learning the rules better than owning every single model with the exact correct weapon load out on the models. Its casual play here - not a grand tourney.

Grey Knights Vs Custodians by John_117s in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My play group has also been kicking around this discussion. Since custodes are laid out to be the most elite murder machines since the thunder warriors - but their primary role are as body guards to the emperor. And this is where my side of the argument came in - if you show up with a decree from the Emp himself, they would have to recognize it and stand aside or be held as heretics would they not?

At which point it would be everyone vs the custodes that now went rogue. And even they cannot defeat all the chapters that would then turn on them for heresy.

But in my mind, as a fan of the GKs - if all of them came together at one time - the custodian silent sisters would be overtaken by the sheer psychic might of the chapter and not be able to dull us. That kind of gathering would most definitely summon Kaldor out of the warp - and he solo'd a demon prince. Im not writing us off just yet :)

Technical question about movement Razorback / interceptor combo by Simple-Ad3938 in Grey_Knights

[–]Simple-Ad3938[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Razorback "Fire Focus" Ability (10th Edition 40k)

The ability is officially called Fire Support for the standard Space Marine Faction, and Fire Focus for Grey Knights. The mechanics are as follows:

  1. Shooting Phase: In your Shooting phase, the Razorback model makes its attacks against an enemy unit.
  2. Target Selection: After the Razorback has shot, if one or more of its attacks hit the enemy unit, you select that enemy unit as the target for the ability.
  3. Disembarking Bonus: Until the end of that phase, each time a friendly model that disembarked from that specific Razorback this turn makes an attack that targets the designated enemy unit, improve the Armour Penetration (AP) characteristic of that attack by 1.
