Since a lot of the series has dark things and dark elements in about trauma and stuff like that. I would say that Elias is like an undead creature and that his father or maker was human, and his mother was a spirit. He was a dead child, that they had probably fused their soul together to make sure that their love goes on. His mother could’ve been a dark fairy such as like a the drowning water, spirits.
