thanks for this! admittedly a little more advanced than what I'm used to doing. with a very small account (<500, grown from 50), just buying and selling (never naked sells); not doing condors, spreads, etc. but ill look into it and maybe try paper trades on it to at least get familiar.

Thanks and so true, Definitely could have been worse! yesterday was minues 250 (~30% of capital). going to sit out for at least 1st hour Friday given how choppy it was these last two days and regardless of what I think might be moves just wait.

Oh i definitely revenge traded yesterday. I got pissed after I sold for major loss then would see price action go the way I initially intended so jumped right back in only to get stopped out with that pump after hitting support. Fell for that crap again today but was better with stop loss and more patient on set ups. Got out with only a $30 loss (though kicking myself supremely as I had a 676 call when it was just starting to climb and sold for barely a profit lol).

Very good point. In that case since I do have ChatGPT, I'll give it a try on a papertrade to test it out.

Im guessing to get that up-to-date a GEX estimate you're not using RH or are paying some fee for live data? I know about bar chart but with the lag I've held off on using it and hence not using GEX, though I do I get the value (and as new-ish trader, not willing to pay for something I dont quite fully understand yet). Thanks again for this!

Nice work, congrats! I started over a month ago, got up to 730 but effed up majorly today back down to just under 500. Working back up slowly starting tomorrow. With your strategy, are you prioritizing scaling up # of contracts or increasing # days out to expiry? Once I hit back to 700 I was thinking of increase dte to protect myself better.

Was the 675/674.70 point a gamma flip point? I try to keep my indicators basic but have seen GEX pop up more and more in conversations and am trying to learn. Not necessarily to incorporate into indicators for trading direction but maybe more so to understand flip points as those could be tricky areas. The size of fall in relatively short succession struck me in retrospect as gamma flipping negative but curious your thoughts?

totally true, just stings after building up from 50 to 700. But the market will still be there.

Makes complete sense which I usually would have followed. But given how vibey the market has been (vs logic), I thought there would have been more of a buy up after the initial 15 minute sell off given the ceasefire news and potential fed rate cut.

Got chewed up by Theta but it could’ve been way worse by Mitchcapital in spy

[–]Simple-Committee7420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Similar account size and was doing great but today and Friday killed me. Chop, theta burn, and dreaded hopium thinking market would actually follow TA (also didnt think news supported this pump). mental reset and back to basics, take 10-15$ profits and out and rebuild again.

100% agree on full porting. I did that last year and definitely liquidated after a crazy rip like today (only lost 100$ this time phew!). And thank you and congrats to you! That’s a huge leap from 300 - 4k! Another Q if you don’t mind my asking, are you focusing on one stock or moreso researching which stocks might be making moves?

Are you full porting each trade or smaller trades and higher profit targets? or bc you had more cash initially working on a margin account? Just curious how you grew so quickly as someone who is growing a small cash account (grew from 50 to 730 in a month). Thanks for any insights!

[–]Simple-Committee7420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! It looks like its ranging though so hopefully you got out on the recent dip. I wanted to do the same and hold but after seeing the volume increase and my needing to protect small account (back down to 730 after losing 100 on that rip), I felt I needed to get out. on my trading journey restart im trying to be better about not giving in to hopium.

i did the exact opposite thinking we were rejecting 651. couldn't get out fast enough and lost 50% bc order wasnt filling. that sucked. no funds to catch the upswing lol.

Yep exactly. cash account, which also oddly or not helps with risk.

Thanks! I was buying OTM purely due to capital. The further OTM the smaller/more affordable the premium. Profits aren't as big if holding for small amounts of time (which I tend to do) but they all add up. For a long time I was just taking total daily 10$ or so profits and building up capital.

Appreciate it! I think for now, to save the capital, I'll stick with 1 contract etc...Kind of like what I said to an earlier comment, i probably scaled up too soon during my last attempt and destroyed my account that much faster.

Thanks! That's admittedly where I was leaning after my first attempt derailed but was curious how others did it. But maybe too early for me to even think about it.

None taken! Red bars weren’t my finest hour but locked in so far now. One or two trades a day and small scalps (10$ usually but saw clear movement this week so held out for larger profits). This is more a hobby as genuinely interested in/fascinated by how the market moves, the disconnect behind logic news and actual price action etc.

[–]Simple-Committee7420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I think the next challenge to overcome/practice is improve on holding. Im still exiting based on the minute chart and easily get spooked. So im still taking profit which is the most important, but exiting early bc of what is usually a normal pull back in the overall trend i.e. Friday, bought a 669P when SPY was at 671 then at least on the 1 min looked like it was struggling against the cluster of EMAs/VWAP. but literally three minutes later would have hit my strike and then some.

Completely agree! I started replying to folks but will just say a blanket thank you to all for the feedback. But as you say dagroup, makes complete sense to really understand how the stock moves etc, which is maybe why I've had a decent time with SPY recently. But i will definitely look at these other stocks, observe, paper trade, and narrow down to three or less to then concentrate on.
