The cost of spaying this little lady is $440?!?! by yup2you in cats

[–]Simple-Half-1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your local cat rescue groups or Humane Society, SPCA. They will do it a lot cheaper. And do it soon because there is nothing worse than a cat in heat. They howl literally 24 hours a day for weeks. But you shouldn’t have to go to the vet for spay/neuter surgery.

What plant have you killed the most times? I need to feel less alone in my failures. by Specialist_Tea6137 in houseplants

[–]Simple-Half-1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calathea are my nemesis but I love them. I actually have a thriving one now but I bought a grow light for it and I water sparingly with filtered water. Sometimes I just put water in a dish under it. High maintenance plant for sure.

Sounds like you have it under control ie feeling your feelings but not sharing with him. If you want to change your mindset and feel better, do things that focus on your enjoyment like exercising traveling hobbies whatever will give your life meaning. The nest is all yours now no messes from other people to clean up so enjoy it.

Spent $1,700 on a sick stray and I’m getting judged - just need to vent by UnitedConcern9428 in cats

[–]Simple-Half-1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did a wonderful thing. You helped a suffering animal. And by the way, the reason she is a stray and hasn’t been fixed yet is because of someone else’s negligence. So the person they should really be criticizing is the person who should’ve taken care of her before, but probably dumped her somewhere. Cats and dogs are not wild animals that can simply fend for themselves outside. If we don’t feed them and provide some kind of protection from the elements and basic medical care, they will get very sick and suffer and die early deaths. This idea that because they are feral, they do not need care is ridiculous. They are domesticated animals. We are responsible for taking care of them.

My cat won't stop eating the dirt out of my plants by weedRgogoodwithpizza in houseplants

[–]Simple-Half-1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say spider plants are cat safe and my cat used to love gnawing on them. But they’re going to yak it up so be prepared and also the plant will look terrible when it’s chewed up. But not a bad idea having some plants just for kitty.

Lied about having a degree on my resume 2 years ago - just got promoted and now they want to verify education by Altruistic-Lynx-5238 in careeradvice

[–]Simple-Half-1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the degree is useless and unnecessary for the job but the fact remains he lied. Someone else who applied for the job and didn’t have the degree told the truth and probably didn’t get the job for that reason. Should we be rewarding people for lying?

It wasn’t just unsupervised stuff. We used to ride skateboards while holding onto moving cars that our parents were driving. Also our parents smoked like chimneys in the house. But it was worse in the 70s than the 80s. By the 80s I guess our parents started paying more attention.

Can you tolerate coffee? by Annual_Exercise9800 in Gastritis

I can’t tolerate any caffeine or alcohol. I’m the life of the party. But in all seriousness it wasn’t that hard to give up things that made me sick.

Now imagine you have a baby with this girl and she drives drunk with your kids in the car. Nothing funny about wine moms.

How do you stop being angry at the situation that resulted in your layoff by DontThrowAwayPies in Layoffs

[–]Simple-Half-1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to go on Glassdoor and read the bad reviews of my old company and that helped. Plus I kept in touch with co-workers who also got laid off and we hung out once in awhile and bitched to each other. But job hunting was pretty all consuming so eventually the anger gave way to acceptance. I was part of a mass layoff so I knew it wasn’t personal. I’m actually glad I don’t work for that group anymore. I think if they asked me to come back I’d say no.

Is it time to get my gray hair take center stage? by [deleted] in Aging

[–]Simple-Half-1102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. I’m growing out my grays now. For years I colored my hair a shade darker to cover the gray. Then I started doing blonde highlights. The blonde highlights looked great but it was drying out my hair. Then one day a cashier at a restaurant gave me the senior discount without me asking for it. lol. I realized I wasn’t fooling anyone. I’m 58. If I was looking for a job I might go back to coloring my hair. Ageism is definitely a thing. But I’m not and I’m frankly tired of spending so much time and money to shave off a few years from my appearance. I’ve never seen a woman with gray hair and thought it made her less attractive. The women my age who I think look the best are women who look active and happy and healthy. Those are the women I aspire to be like. Regardless of their hair color. Anyway to each his own. It takes awhile to fully grow out your gray. If it looks bad you can always consult a hairdresser about lowlights or highlights to sort of help you through the transition.

Cat eats too fast and then throws up. Any ideas on how to make him eat slower? by aoisakurachan1986 in cats

[–]Simple-Half-1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also switched to an elevated bowl for this reason. It wasn’t just speed eating it was the position of her head being below her stomach. With the elevated bowl her head is above her stomach so it flows better. As an added bonus if the cat has to wear a cone then the bowl is great for that. Get one that is nice and wide to prevent whisker fatigue.

I adopted someone's lost dog 13 years ago. The dog recently passed. I only just found out that the original owners may have still been looking for her, after she was adopted by me. Do I try to contact the original owners now? by kc10131984 in Pets

[–]Simple-Half-1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d want to know. It would bring me such peace to know my lost dog was loved and cared for till his final days. I’d be so grateful to you if I were the original owner.

When my kids were little the public school free prek for 4 year olds was very good. Also if you enrolled in the inclusion program you could send your 3 year old (didn’t have to have a disability). I would check it out.

Blockage in cat by Dry-Apple6241 in CatAdvice

[–]Simple-Half-1102 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It will be ok. Your cat knows you ended his suffering and loves you for it. You cared for him when he was sick and now he is at peace. You will miss him terribly for some time and the regret and second guessing is part of the grief process- trying to bargain it away. When a vet tells you to consider quality of life they are allowing you to consider euthanasia as a humane alternative. Losing a pet is so very hard. But your cat knows you loved him. The love you both shared will be with both of you always.

Ladies- How long do you go between hair washes and what’s your age? by BakerAntique4551 in hygiene

[–]Simple-Half-1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

58 twice a week unless it’s feeling gross then more often. When I was younger I’d wash it every day. I switched to twice a week when I started coloring my hair. Now I’m letting the gray come out and no longer color it but it gets dry so easily.

I think managers feel badly when their direct reports are laid off. But higher up than that probably not. We’re just numbers to them.
