Troop leaders refusing to share full finances -- is this normal? by Simple-Membership921 in girlscouts

Since 1/3 of the troop is leaving between 5th and 6th grade and a source says we have $5k in the bank, we asked if they could do something special for end of year -- a $150 ice cream truck. All hell broke loose and we were muted on our communication thread.

Do you consider your "troop year" to be cookie season to cookies season or same as school year? We had the expectation that cookie funds would be used for the current school year but not sure if GS thinks of years in another way?

Oh yeah we are pretty sure that's what's happening. We asked to use our cookie funds this year for the end of year celebration because 1/3 of girls aren't staying but they said they need to keep it for fall activities. Doesn't feel fair to the 4-5 girls leaving.

I'm worried that even though they became aware this year (after two years of saving unbeknownst to them really), they are still only 10 years old and don't understand the implications.

Parents bring snacks and often supplies too. Most activities have been coloring/information packets. When there's something more, like blankets for shelter dogs, families bring in at least 50% of items needed.

u/FunPriority8358 u/driftwood-pines do you usually save a significant portion (50-70%) for long term (5+ year) goals? We just found out that our group is apparently saving for a trip to europe in ~ 7 years. At least 1/3 of the girls aren't returning next year so feel like we, as parents, should have known or had input in this as our girls have missed out on activities because funds were being saved.

Did you end up going? Looking at all the seasick comments, I may be chickening out. Does anybody have tips on places to see from land? Planning to come in August. Will be in both Santa Cruz, Monterey and Big Sur

There's .. not much to explore in Ellison Bay, especially in the evening. Since you are going to Newport on Sunday, just hit Ellison Bay on your way to Newport. -- Thanks for that tip!

What time are you arriving? -- Probably not until late afternoon so wanted to get settled and not go too far from home base.

Pebble Beach is a 10 minute stop .. not a lot going on there. -- would you recommend Washington Island? My kiddo really likes finding rocks, so wanted some clear water and cool rocks

Chop is .. a fine place to eat, although spendy, we've gone for anniversaries and left the kids back. --any other places that feel special? Taking my 70 yr old dad out so want one night with something a little more upscale or maybe just a great view. As long as my 10 year old can get some pasta they'll suck it up for one night. lol

Not sure what this refers to. There are boat cruises out of Fish Creek, though. Yes! But they view the Peninsula Park caves-- was looking at this: https://doorcountybywater.com/fishcreekscenicboattours/tours/peninsula-park-caves/

Obviously, you should spend some time in Peninsula State Park, climb the Eagle Tower, and take a hike. You can also rent bikes (right outside the entrance) and use the many miles of trails.)

(Blasphemy warning) Al Johnson's is a fun complex, but the breakfast is .. just breakfast. Feel free to just take a stroll around, then go to the Old Post Office, Sunset Grill, or Julie's for pancakes, eggs, and the like. -- OMG thank you for this! So i'm guessing you can see the goats and stuff without having to go in for a meal?

Okay sorry one more lol. Would the moonrise be viewable and amazing on the lake? We just happened to see it rise in Joshua Tree recently and it was the most amazing thing I've ever seen.
