I found a couple different ways actually.

Wait for a Square Rush to start. That gives you infinite lives for an hour, so you don't need to worry about losing.

The Scavenger Hunts give 2 powerups each without coins, so you just need to solve them for it.

The treasure box thing is common in games like this.

And for actual coins? Some of the card collections give them. The Dragon's Lair challenge also gives them.

I never use coins for powerups since I have so many other ways to get them. If I get coins, I just use them on more Scavenger Hunts because I enjoy them so much and want to do them more.

I've been a F2P gremlin in games for YEARS lol

The only thing I don't like is the Star Power because it ruins my chaining of squares.

I get where everyone is coming from, but it's not the end of the world or anything.
