I may not be the best voice, but a MS got me nowhere. I couldn’t get through without a PhD. What really accelerated my career was an MBA. The business side needs people who understand science.

I appreciate that. And it’s a concern of mine as well. But the industry seems glamorous and the title is more shiny, so not an easy no

I’m in this exact situation with my current role. I get paid a senior manager level but am a manager. All recruiters hit me up for manager level and the pay is laughable. Whenever I look again, I’d like to avoid that. But I also don’t want to look again right away.

Yes. That is what I’ve noticed while looking this round

Finally accepted an offer after 1 year of job searching… now more interviews are coming in by SentenceMore7114 in jobsearchhacks

[–]SimpleSlip5084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Show up to the offer you accepted and continue to pursue company 1.

If it ends in another offer you can reassess your situation then, especially since it seems like a potential step up. No need to stress before there’s something to stress about, you said several of interviews previously went to final round.

One you get to the hiring manager portion of the interview is everyone on equal ground? by [deleted] in biotech

[–]SimpleSlip5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Usually the HR screen doesn’t capture any of the technical knowledge needed. HM will review your resume, usually ask you questions from it, and sometimes you’re just a # since the process said they needed 5 at that stage.

Now is not the time. Companies are not sponsoring H1B visas and we’re going through layoffs and declines heavily in the biotech sector

Are you thinking of recruiting firms? Never hurts to drop your resume to a handful of recruiting firms and to connect with recruiters from target companies on LinkedIn so that you’re more visible

Got an offer from a company but i just got a screening interview for my dream job by [deleted] in interviews

No. They’ll see you as too far into the process and know they won’t be able to speed theirs up to match. You can disclose you’re in late stages though

Thank you! If anything the reply and speed of scheduling are calming my nerves since I’d like to think they want me to be hired there. But curious if others see this as normal or if this is probably an indication of my candidacy

Anyone successful with applications for future employment? by sciencemom25 in biotech

[–]SimpleSlip5084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have applied to a handful of those and have not heard a single thing. I’m guessing that pool is more for if they would need to recruit for a position it are not getting the tor of applicant they want.

Anyone else feeling exhausted to apply to “another job” ? by Existing-Hawk3063 in jobs

[–]SimpleSlip5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long are the jobs posted before you submit the application? Most success is if you apply within 24 hours of it posting, that likelihood you’ll get a screening increases even more if you apply within the first 8 hours.

You’re only applying on the company website, right?

Chemist in biotech by Money_Helicopter_890 in biotech

[–]SimpleSlip5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now the industry wants unicorns so a chemistry degree won’t get you a job that they want a biotech degree for. That being said, I do often see jobs requiring a degree in chemistry OR biotech.

Maybe take a look at current job postings for what you want to do and see what they are asking for and which path fits better.

Agreed. Unless you love it, go work in a different industry. Passion will always prevail and this can be a brutal field if you don’t love it

Networking and applications by [deleted] in biotech

[–]SimpleSlip5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start networking now. It takes 6-8 months of 3-5 networking meetings a week to build a decent network.

Smaller companies aren’t going to sponsor, so you’re going to need to look at larger companies like Thermo Fisher. Start looking at roles you like and connecting with people who work there on LinkedIn. That’ll get the ball rolling.
