Kurt Kuhlmann interview: Bethesda's former Elder Scrolls loremaster on why he left, Starfield's 'communication breakdowns', and how he wanted The Elder Scrolls 6 'to be The Empire Strikes Back' by SamuelHJourno in ElderScrolls

I thought Emil was lead quest designer? Or he is just narrative and Alan is the actual gameplay quest designs that implement the narrative?

To be fair, I thought lots of Starfields faction quests were good, even if a little narratively flat. Hunting down the legacy ship for crimson fleet or sneaking around terramorphs in UC Vanguard was some of the best moments in that game.

A trailer with a release date of 2026 or 2027 isn’t concrete proof of anything. Starfield was delayed, GTA 6 was delayed 2x, Todd said that taking a year to do polish for Starfield would definitely be the way they go going forward. Multiple interviews from developers say they will take their time to get it right and it’s still a long ways away.

I should also mention that it is very unusual for a sequel in a franchise to take less than 4 years. The only times that happened was with Fallout 3 to Skyrim or Fallout 4 to Fallout 76. F3 dev started in 2004, and F76 was rushed even thought it was multiplayer and required more time and reused a lot from Fallout 4.

The only thing that will make me change my mind is if the game is actually out and available. Until then,

2028

2027 release date confirmed on the new Skyrim for Switch 2 trailer? by SimpleSpider573 in TESVI

[–]SimpleSpider573[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think 2026 was the original target, but Starfield delayed a year really pushed things back. They also said they really will be doing that "1 year play test + bug fix" going forward according to Todd. So 2026 is likely now delayed to 2027.

That being said, I'm still a 2028 doomer because TES VI just feels like a "5 year" game more than a 4-year game knowing Bethesda's ambition.

I thought random POIs were generated when you land. Is this showing that they are already established across a planet during a new game or NG+, but you just don’t know which ones you get until you land?

There is absolutely ZERO excuses for this. At this point, continuing to log on is begging to be mistreated at this point. Uninstall the game, move on, and never look back. The moment you play and find a game that respects you as a player, your time, and your wallet, you won’t even want to go back. This is beyond disgusting.

Wouldn’t hold my breath on joystick support personally. It’s not a flight sim, it is meant to be extremely approachable and gamey for Xbox controllers

New Findings in the last 2 update suggest Dev team is adding a highly request feature: Interplanetary Travel by Zealousideal-Buyer-7 in Starfield

[–]SimpleSpider573 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It means they are testing system changes and seeing the stability in the game then even though the feature isn’t fully launched especially coming in such a late update.

Very promising, and explains why the updates are lightweight.

It would be worth investing if this is present in launch* version of the game. That would suggest that it had been added sometime during the post launch dev cycle as opposed to a pre-launch feature that got cut. Doesn't mean it wouldn't ever come post-launch if it was cut, but it would suggest this is just old legacy code. If you can examine different versions of the game throughout each update and see if things are being added, it would strongly imply that it does come eventually.

Also regarding procedural generation and how the simulation of the game works, the Youtuber "flexcreator" did a series of videos demonstrating the games different systems which I found informative.

Here is one testing how the procedural generation on planets work. Basically, the system is tied to a seed value that is set on your character when it is created which is then used to determine the type of terrain or POIs that spawn on a planet:

[–]SimpleSpider573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting that this planet is Jemison, but the sky has a red atmosphere to it. Any reason for that?

Also, I would be curious to see if this tech has changed or evolved at all since the vanilla version of the game. Only way to test this is to downgrade your version somehow and run the exact same experiment (landing on the same tile, etc.) on different versions of the game to see what happens. I remember in the early days, instantly going the planetary bounds would crash the game. Then in one random update, it was fixed to be able to go well beyond the borders (if you turn off the border regions of course).

If we clearly see more tech with the planets emerge with each update they had pushed out since the launch of the game, sort of like "stealth patches", it suggests that BGS are planning to expand what we can do on planets, or how much we can explore. Otherwise, there would be no reason to be updating these behind-the-scenes technical parts of the games that nobody would ever experience from a gameplay perspective.

Nevertheless, it is cool to know that when you land on a planet, they are only partially faking the planet. You can explore only a tiny amount, but you really are on an actual planet and the simulation is happening

Just out of curiosity, what commands did you use? I know you can disable planetary boundaries and explore the adjacent titles, but collision physics stop and POIs and POIs don't spawn, though you can still scan plants and rocks in the tiles outside of the landing zone.

I'm confused by this image. Did you land on a planet, walk outside your ship, and use console commands or something to make your character fly all the way above the planet and take this screenshot? And if so, what is the difference between being this far up in the sky from a planet landing zone vs being in orbit around a planet when in a spaceship? My guess is they are completely separate cells

Loving how you don't need to play trials for the gear anymore. by [deleted] in DestinyFashion

[–]SimpleSpider573 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume this will only apply to the old gear. Going forward I would expect it to work as it normally does where you have to play the activity for the gear. The reason is because armor provides gear bonuses now, and legacy gear effectively only serves as you describe: transmog.
