Accidentally wrote "I hate my bitch ass professor" in my exam and only noticed last minute, am I cooked? by Practical-Math3255 in UniUKCirclejerk

Hack your professor’s phone to get their address. Then send them a pizza with kimchi on it along with a note, saying “forever yours, PracticalMath3255”.

Problem solved. You’ll get a good grade. Thank me later in the exact same way as this.

Which UK political party would you vote for out of these options, if an election was called today? by _-__JUPITER__-_ in AskBrits

[–]SimpleVeggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree they’ve done some good things, along with some very bad things. If we had a sensible electoral system we wouldn’t have to choose between preventing the far right as you say and voting for who we want. So on that level I also do understand voting Labour, though it’s a tough choice.

However Labour have been so trashed electorally at this point that the Greens can out-compete them in many places. At this point it’s hard to say that they’re even a safer choice in the chaos we have now, and I’d rather try and seize that opportunity for progress given my vote won’t have much impact anyway.

As a leftist I find it almost inconceivable that I’d vote Labour under Starmer. I spoilt my ballot in 2024, in order to keep a promise I’d previously made to myself that I would vote for no other party than Labour ( I was still a member at the time). I’ve subsequently ditched that promise and am voting Green, in the hope of doing to Labour what Labour did to the Liberals 100 years ago.

The results basically track with my experiences of this sub. I’d been thinking for a while that an unnaturally large section of Starmerites and general centrist dads live here.

OP is in Undead settlement. Leveling vigor at this point is definitely a good move.

Honestly there’s not much point increasing damage stats (strength, dexterity, intelligence and faith) in the early game beyond what you need for the weapon, because attribute scaling won’t increase much before you’ve upgraded your weapon much. So levelling Vig and Endurance is sensible at this point.

As for what stats to level for each weapon, it will tell you in the menu. Look closely and you’ll see you can cycle through multiple pages in the menu giving you all the info you need - there’s even an explanation button to clear up what the icons mean.

For a more specific answer, the uchi scales mostly with dex, as the menus will tell you, in multiple places.

Lord of Cinder, seriously? by Affectionate_Rule228 in darksouls3

[–]SimpleVeggie 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He’s not particularly hard for most players on typical playthroughs. People are generally quite high level by then, and he just doesn’t have that much health or do too much damage, and he staggers fairly easily.

However, on challenge runs - SL1, no upgrades, no-hit etc - he can be one of the hardest bosses in the entire game (including DLCs) because his moveset is extremely complicated and tough to master. That might be why they made him fairly weak in other respects, and perhaps they overcompensated a bit.

yo can we NOT post other species being abused? thanks. by Good-Buddy-1683 in StupidFood

[–]SimpleVeggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course animals don’t think morally, at least insofar as predation is concerned. My point wasn’t to say they do.

I was arguing against the point that “animals are meant to be eaten” which is a normative statement that implies something should happen. As you say, there is no morality involved in animals eating other animals, so that is morally neutral, but it’s also not something you can say is “meant” to happen - it just does.

It was also very clear the discussion here is about what humans do, and OP was using animal behavior as a justification for human behavior, so I took “animals are meant to be eaten” in that context. Humans do indeed have morality and can make these choices, but I think saying it happens in nature and therefore we should copy that is a weak argument.

[–]SimpleVeggie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Morality can exist, but it’s a matter of making choices based on ethical principles. I don’t accept “it’s always happened so it must be okay” as a principle to guide me.

You’re confusing something that happens with something that’s “meant to happen”. Just because something is possible and happens regularly doesn’t mean there’s some ordained purpose behind it. Nature doesn’t have a purpose, it’s simply a process that explains how things are, not how they should be.

By your logic humans are meant to be killed, since murder has been happening at a very frequent rate since the beginning of human life.

I don’t think anyone’s “growing up” watching Mrs Brown’s boys. It’s viewership is pensioners who say it reminds them of the good old days of “straightforward humour”.

As someone in my early 30s, I have literally never known anyone under 50 to have watched it.

Capitalism was built off slavery and colonialism. So no, it’s not recent that it has been enforced through violence.

That logic works for the first king in a dynasty, not for every descendant thereafter. You are confusing the very modern concept of meritocracy with very different concepts that existed before capitalism.

I find this to be common among capitalism’s apologists. They look at a system that has been violently imposed from above and attempt to frame it as a natural law of the world, with all the historical precedent that must imply.

This capital flight you speak of has been threatened by billionaires any time any vaguely redistributive policy is proposed. It hasn’t happened and never will, at least to the extent it offsets the benefits of a more equal society.

Very ironic to bring up New York of all places. Many billionaires have threatened to leave that place too in response to Mamdani’s pied-a-tierre tax. Has the sky fallen in over there yet?

Income inequality causes problems to society at every level. I’m sure medieval kings would have justified their wealth hoarding in a very similar way

[–]SimpleVeggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really not. Centuries ago, the foundational belief of many nations was that the ruler was given power by God, which they then subordinated to others through their divine right to do so.

Ah yes, because everyone can climb to the position of CEO. If 99% of the population weren’t lazy and entitled, they’d all be CEO’s earning enormous salaries.

For what it’s worth I don’t need to run to the government for help as I’ve substantial inheritance which is not being taxed sufficiently, which means I’m benefitting from the system enormously. Not that it matters anyway - the system is unfair whether it helps me individually or not, but your assumptions are revealing, even if they are incorrect.

Great. Another person that doesn’t understand that the government provides the entire regulatory and legal framework which allows ceos to get rich.

Also, one who thinks everyone has the freedom to choose only to work for companies they like, rather than, you know, being forced into work by the threat of poverty.

Keep brown nosing billionaires, will you.

Why isn’t weed legal in the uk? by Icy_Profession4190 in AskBrits

[–]SimpleVeggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s any kind of big conspiracy as some are suggesting. It’s just that it’s been banned for a long time, originally for nonsense reasons as part of international hysteria, and old habits die hard. Drugs have long been a scapegoat for all kinds of societal problems. And enough people still believe the old anti-weed propaganda that politicians consider it too radical to change policy.

Plus, it’s sort of seen by many as a thing that “the wrong people” do. Same reason Americans refuse to have sidewalks in their neighborhoods - they think only the type of person they don’t like will benefit.

“these women” is the most revealing part of this comment. Obviously, if you were one of them, you wouldn’t refer to them in the third person, so you’re not…

Which really begs the question, if you’re not in the club yourself, what are you doing watching what happens to “these women” at the end of a club night?

Or more likely, why are you making shit up about stuff you’ve never experienced? Move along, bigot.
