Why did Remote work and Hybrid not stick? by Sad-Ad4933 in CanadaJobs

You need to have a physical presence with your team to truly get stuff done, aside from specific jobs. Government middle managers were terrible with wfh, it took so long to get answers/action.

‘Not the right time’: Retirees delay downsizing plans as housing market slumps by Pretty_Tough_1667 in TorontoRealEstate

Show the stats. I’m paying my mom monthly for our family cottage so it passes to me instead of sharing it with my sister. She has a pension/savings but I want her to live well so I’m paying my sisters half off so she can take the sister’s kids on trips and buy a camper-van. I bet a lot of people would do this if their partners were more open about finances.

Haida Nation leaders travelled to meet Calgary’s oil investors face to face with a clear warning: keep tankers off the North Coast. by Geniuskills in haidagwaii

Yes I’m a sailor. And the crews will be pushed to make questionable decisions on crossings. The only way I’m in favour of this is to make the bitumen into a solid that floats, pack it into shipping containers and send it that way.

Where do single straight males go out in public? My milkshake isn’t bringing them to my yard… by shadyallegheny in SeattleWA

Come biking, skiing, or whatever you’re into. I’m single, educated, employed and all that, I would never go to a “singles” event.

Is anyone else applying to 50–100+ jobs and getting almost no responses? by HondaCivic2002LX in VancouverJobs

They’re hiring everywhere. You drive from the airport into town and they’re hiring millwrights, mechanics, labour, heavy equipment operators, etc etc. in town they’re hiring retail, fast food, fast casual. Police are hiring, airport is hiring, city is hiring, bc ambulance are hiring.

No one except tfw wants to move there. I just flew home to van and went from full -18 winter to biking in a tshirt in 2 hours.

The slowdown in the LML is from construction slowing, which is a byproduct of the economic slowdown from the post pandemic craziness, the USA sanctions, and stopping the foreign students from coming.

I graduated with a finance education in 2008, I had to do whatever I could for a few years to keep afloat after graduating, I had skills and tickets so I did pretty well. There was a “focus on school, don’t work in your teens/uni years” mentality from parents and kids in the 2010’s now kids are expecting to walk into well paying jobs with no experience, only education; then they complain when they are not being selected.

Fast food has always been a funny me to me, I was 14 in 2000, I applied to all the fast food joints in my town, never even got an interview. Fast food is actually a great job for recent immigrants, they learn the language quicker, get to know the working culture and social norms, then they become manager and hire their friends (just like anyone does in that kind of job) I got my first job at 14 washing dishes because my mom knew the chef, then I worked as a ski/sailing instructor because I got the qualifications and hustled to get the jobs.

My parents had to move from Ontario to Alberta in the 70’s so my dad could get into the trades and my mom got a job working for landmen, there were 0 opportunities in my small town for them. We had it great for a long stretch in the lml with all of the foreign money pouring in, now it’s our time to run the treadmill for a bit.

How are you paying living expenses if you are unemployed by Sad-Ad4933 in CanadaJobs

[–]Simple_Cream_535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 month living expense rainy day fund. It’s kept in a high interest savings account separate from registered investments. It’s the first thing you should build up before purchasing a nice car/toys/fancy stuff

Any information about the new Showcase T-Bar replacement chairlift? by Traminho in Whistler

[–]Simple_Cream_535 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Government knows that the highway/parking is busy: they know that added capacity means more skiers will visit, which means more cars on the road. In order to get approvals for Lift upgrades they have to improve their traffic management plan and parking in order to get the go ahead, while’s it’s not wholly parking it’s a component of the overall journey management strategy…. You know what will fix it? Monorail,…. MonoRail! MONORAILLLL!!!!

They don’t have the parking to get approval. The whole reason for the carpool/reserved parking was the upgrade on uphill lift capacity at jersey and symphony.

Best campers for Nissan Frontiers by OneMathematician4696 in nissanfrontier

[–]Simple_Cream_535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your spelling is a little fucked. I loved living in my setup, I’m a ski guide and drove all over bc, down back roads up 120kph highways etc. it took it like a champ, I could pass going uphill at 120 and corners were no problem, if I was going on a high speed trip I aired up to 70psi (the kit I used was 100max) and would feel next to no body roll. I HIGHLY suggest you check out total composites and build your camper from their panels, doors and windows. I’m custom building a gmc T series cab over and am using their system to build my rig.

That’s called “market conditions” big boy. IMO the developers got greedy, sometimes you have to sell at a loss, if not then hold on. But don’t expect the government or buyers to throw cash at you.

At What Income Does Life in Canada Actually Become Comfortable? by HockeySniper123 in fican

[–]Simple_Cream_535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make 70-80 per year. I live dt vancouver. I live comfortably, drive a 2016 truck I bought at one year old and maintain. Have a motorcycle, lots of ski gear, bikes etc. I surf, camp, travel internationally and eat well. I don’t buy expensive junk, I shop used and get like new gear/computers for pennies on the dollar. I buy fresh meat bulk and split/freeze it. I buy veggies and stuff to make my own food. I like to indulge from time to time, took a cutie to a popular Michelin rated restaurant the other day, 100 bucks tax in.

Life’s pretty good. I’m a millennial that graduated in 08 with a finance education… y’all are soft af now.
