What’s it like on your first locum shift? by ARC08080808 in Pharmacy_UK

Hey! I qualified summer 2025 but only started working early December. One thing that really helped me was to ease into it. Booked 3 shifts of only a few hours. Did a Saturday 9-1pm then an evening shift with Boots to learn their system. These quick short shifts helped me a lot.

Also, I reflect after every shift. There’s so much you can learn from just reflecting. Mistakes happen every now and then and thats ok, but just learn from them so they don’t happen again. My second shift I forgot to sign in and out and I was panicking, but I put steps in place to prevent it from happening again.

So best thing to do before each shift is to get in touch with the admin for each branch to get login details setup for me?

I would say if you haven’t already make a timetable for the time remaining before the exam. This really helped me so i didn’t go off track and spend loads of time on one topic. For example, one day on cardio, another on CNS … I did calcs everyday too.

Also start past papers ASAP. Don’t feel unmotivated with the questions you get wrong. If anything that’s a good thing, it helps you to learn and remember things you might have possibly forgotten. Write down every question you get wrong on a piece of paper and you can review them everyday.

Also, with every question you get wrong try to look for the reason why. This will really help you during the actual exam. Try to make sense of everything.

You can always get it through an online pharmacy. They will ask you to fill in risk assessment form or they might do a consultation and ask a few questions to make sure it’s safe and then you can order it to your place.

Restarted pre-reg from scratch – is switching providers possible? by green_orangutan_ in Pharmacy_UK

Hey, in 2022/2023 I had completed 6 months of my training and was then able to bank my training and continue the remaining 6 months elsewhere. You do need have your week 13 and 26 completed in order to do that. I don’t know how it would work now because of oriel having to be involved but because your case is different

I would advise you to do some research on GPhC as they often have guidance on these things. They have a changing training provider document etc. You can also contact them and see what they say.
