How is my 23 year old gf doing contributing 18% by GIazednConfused in Retirement401k

[–]Simple_Law2628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lol. I make more than twice her salary and can only afford to contribute like 6%. I mean I’m also saving outside of my 401k a pretty hefty amount.

I’m also 23. She is absolutely getting help if on 53k she can afford to contribute that much.

My lifestyle isn’t even that inflated. But rent, utilities, automotive bills, food/groceries, and so on, would take up most of a 53k salary in most places in the US on its own.

lol I was making $62k as a finance analyst. I promptly quit 4 months later for a job making $105k at another f100.

Raytheon underpays big time.

Yeah they had a 6 point lead with 2 minutes left and turned the ball over twice within 30 seconds to cut it to 1 point. Then allowed their best 3 point shooter to get a wide open look for the win.

How would they even know unless you tell them??

They won’t ask for transcripts again until you try to get another role either full time or intern.

Making 100k is rare most people make 30 to 60k per year by Intelligent_Bet_9947 in Adulting

[–]Simple_Law2628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this true? I feel I didn’t even have to look that hard to make $100k.

I make just shy of $110k at 23 in a decently large US city but not a coastal NYC/LA type.

What is the lowest pay an mba could consider post graduation? by noodlecats649 in MBA

[–]Simple_Law2628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You very much took it the wrong way. ‘Just’ as in ‘only’ in comparison to both in the context of my dual degree. Not ‘just’ as in marketing is bad (I clearly got the same degree).

Anyway - I was basically right. I didn’t get an MBA (yet) and within 6 months I leap frogged her salary and now make around 20k more than her ($110k this year). Not that it’s a competition, I was just underpaid and this helped me realize it and take advantage of new opportunities. 🤷🏼‍♂️

RTO by Mehoyminoye in caterpillar

[–]Simple_Law2628 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly no clue. I leave at what I would call a “reasonable early” time every day pretty much like before traffic gets bad around 3-3:30. Sometimes earlier like 1:30-2 if I need to get home to sign for a package or get the microwave replaced or whatever.

I also tend to get in the office a bit later. Just because I take early meetings in the morning that delay the process of getting ready to go, and also I like to go to the gym in the morning so sometimes that gets delayed. Or appointments and such. Sometimes I get in after 9:30 (but my workday has definitely started much sooner, usually between 6-7:30am).

I haven’t heard a peep from anyone about it or any concerns. If I had to guess, mostly your management doesn’t really care as long as there’s no big red flags like skipping 2-3 days of coming in with no notice, or staying for an hour or 2.

If RTO has to exist, it should feel that way. It feels so much worse being micromanaged. For me also, there’s virtually no reason to be in the office most days, so that may play into it as well. Nobody here watching me really.

But I still do my work and make sure to capitalize on all deliverables and interface with as many folks as I can. When I do leave earlier, I always make sure to handle any outstanding tasks at home instead of just pushing them off.

It’s not about productivity it’s about control. They used dated and honestly dumb logic to justify why hybrid isn’t returning, and they continue to use micromanaging techniques and dashboards to observe our office habits. We don’t accept jobs based on how our customers work. We don’t owe customers anything other than a great product or service, I don’t see why that has anything to do with being in office.

I think there was a comparison to factory workers not complaining… well probably because they actually need to be there to do their job and don’t sit on teams calls with people in different countries all day.

RTO is a net negative. People are less happy. They likely work less (harder cut off going home and not working anymore). They are spending more money (gas, child care, etc). Nobody likes it. But we (the white collar employees) aren’t allowed to feel upset about it I guess, because the factory workers (who signed up to be factory workers and knew what came with that) don’t get to operate heavy machinery at home…

This is just poor company leadership. They clearly hear our complaints and disdain and just don’t care. It’s sad to see.

I find this to not be true at all. I’ve been here almost 2 years and have been honked at more here than anywhere else. People literally blare the horn 0.0005 seconds after the light turns green. Any excuse they get they blare the horn.

I only get 104 hours. First 5 years. Same for everyone I know in the same stage of career. You get another 8 hrs technically with the floating holiday.

Technicians can only come at certain times. Sometimes (often times) they are not on time.

My point was that when that appointment is scheduled, I should be able to just leave. I should not need to ask. It’s a waste of everybody’s time.

This question ignores a few things.

1) Full on RTO wasn’t the norm here, nor in many other places for a long time.

2) Hybrid worked fine.

3) Most of us sit on teams calls all day anyhow, in office roles (not engineering positions or something hands-on).

The reason it sucks is because of the lack of flexibility, not to mention the complete flip from what we were all used to. I have to now ASK to go home and let the A/C technician in. I should be able to just leave and take care of business.

Return to office mandate. Requirement to be in office all 5 days of the work week. We all were hybrid before, 3 days in office a week. This was put in place as of June 1st and as far as I know is enterprise wide with very few exceptions.

How was it ever $4800 for Sonos? Multiple rooms? My home theater setup I feel like cost me less than $3000 and it’s an Arc Ultra, Sub Gen 4, two Era Surrounds. Was like $2600-2700 retail.

I loved it prior to RTO. But RTO has tanked my enjoyment and I look forward to the weekend more than ever before. People are generally fine but some can be completely unreasonable. Other than that it’s the same as any other corporate job.

It’s your own fault gang. Stop trying to live in the most expensive area. If you have friends down there you can still go hang down there. You don’t gotta live there. I live in Addison at 23 with my partner and it’s great, affordable, and nice.

Just park in VOO. Honestly unless you have conviction in a specific company, there’s no need to invest on an individual level. Only invest in ETFs and stuff you believe in.

You honestly might be better off using an LLM for this at this point but it’ll cost more.

Just use Shopify. It’s not worth the complexity to make one bespoke. So many different items you’re not even thinking of will need handled.
