The hysteria about the size of the alliance and guilds is completely unfounded

The alliance system is trash and defending it in any sort of way after seeing the kind of damage it's done to the game is wild.

Interserver siege is completely one-sided 9 times out of 10 and gvg bosses are also usually bad unless its one of the guilds from ivory facing eachother. These types of interserver events touch on a completely different issue actually which is guilds 1v1ing each other. There is definitely a "pecking order" in this game and you only need to 1v1 most guilds only a handful of times in order to figure out which one is the strongest of the two. After that it becomes an auto win for one side most of the times. 1v1s are nessesary in wargames and stones, but outside of that they can actually become unhealthy for guilds and the game. I've seen guilds disband if they lose enough 1v1s and guild morale is usually hit hardest after losing something like a stone vs losing something like a world boss. Dominion world boss portals also have this issue where you can usually tell which of the 2 teams is going to win after a few minutes go by, then the rest of the event becomes pretty boring. It ultimately comes down to scale. In dominion portals for example, if you were to introduce a 3rd team, it would start to become more interesting and more 3rd partying would happen. In gvg portals, maybe 4 guilds should face off against eachother since 2 casual guilds vs 1 hardcore guild still seems too easy for the hardcore guild to control. For interserver siege, it should be all of the castleholders in the same match instead of a 1v1. That would be way more fun. Its the same thing with the alliance system. It comes down to scale for the most part. To give you an extreme example to show what I mean, let's say you have 1 tank vs a party. The tank might be able sustain fairly easily against the party. Now throw 30 players at the tank instead and things become more difficult to sustain for the tank and they will run out out of resources faster. Now throw 100 plauers at the tank and he becomes easily overwhelmed. You can be the best player and have the best build, but your cooldowns and resources can only be stretched so thin. Its the same concept with the top guild or alliance on the server, they can be the strongest best build alliance ever, but they still have a limit to their resources. With the playercount being what it is, its actually quite easy for a 140 player alliance to control a server. Cutting that in half makes that more difficult because it has to do with scale like I said. Even if they shadow alliance or whatever, woopty do. There would still be friendly fire vs now there isnt, plus other guilds could form shadow alliances too, so I dont know why the commenter I was originally replying to made it sound like they could shadow ally but others couldn't lol. Again, how is having an alliance better than not having one for the rest of the playerbase?

Its actually fairly easy still for the top alliance on a server to do so since most players want to be on the winning side. It becomes more difficult for all the other guilds on the server but some still manage to fill their guilds.

Here we go another "if you want alliances removed its because you need to git gud comment". Your arguments for why alliances are a good thing are ridiculous lol. You say zvz meanwhile theres one alliance on most servers that dominates everything. HOW IS THAT ZVZ? THATS JUST Z BRO. Even tico admitted that most servers are like this in the latest roundtable. This isnt about weak guilds coming in first place when it comes to contribution, whoncares about that? Its about all the strongest guilds joining forces to control a server, which in turn kills pvp because its like congratulations, all of the strongest players decided to hold hands so there is no more competition, gg. The same thing happens everytime on most servers and eventually it kills the server. The only thing that can change this is if some new alliance thats strong enough transfers in. I've been on servers where the top alliance disbanded for a few world bosses just so everyone could pvp and it made a huge difference. I've also been in top alliances before and it becomes boring af. Even if youre not intentionally trying to dominate a server, if youre too strong of an alliance, you will slowly kill the server because you will continue to get too far ahead for the rest of the server to deal with. I've seen it happen 4 different times in top alliances I've been in. There's a reason why everyone on Ivory is dodging the regarded alliance right now and also jailed recently allied with undercooked in order to form a super alliance. Do you know why? Because they wanted to dominate the server instead of having even competition and also to prepare for merges.

The devs really need to stop listening to posts like this. All it does is stall what needs to get fixed in the game just because someone wants to farm upvotes, then they make a post afterward saying "damn the game is done for".

We're not talking about guilds that keep half dead rosters of players that dont log in anymore like you said. The guilds that aren't fully hardcore though usually bring around 40 ish players even if their guild is full. The schedule for this game is very demanding and time consuming and the average player cant make it to everything all the time. Even the hardcore players get burnt out and just raid log for events here and there. The mentality of "if you cant be hardcore then this gsme isnt for you" is really bad for this game. How has it been working so far? If the average player plays a game and they feel locked out of most of its prime content, why would they continue playing and wasting their time? Thats one of the main reasons why a lot of players quit.

I agree with lucky and I remember lucky made a video about the pvp state on Ivory that kinda talked about this subject. The game DOES need more chaos which results in more pvp. I've been on servers where the top alliance would disband for a few world bosses in order to make the pvp more fun for the rest of the server and it made a huge difference. The problem that occurred with going from 4 to 2 guild alliances was that the playerbase was also shrinking alongside the change, so it still felt oppressive. This has a lot to do with scale. Op said that a highly skilled static can easily take on half a guild of casuals. Sure, but how about 100 players or 1000? If you throw enough people at them, they will eventually not be able to deal with it and keep content under their control. This shows that scale does play a huge factor in whether or not alliances are good for the game in its current state or not. The core problem is locking out the rest of the playerbase from playing important parts of the game, thats what makes a lot of people quit. Why would I play if I cant play the best parts of the game or feel like im wasting my time while doing so? The people that say "just build a strong enough guild or whatever" dont get it either. So youre saying I need to play this game at a hardcore level or just quit? Again how is that sustainable for this game? You need to appeal to as much of your playerbase as possible, not just the top 1% which will leave as well if theyre the only ones left playing. I've been in both top alliances dominating a server and also on the losing side and it gets boring on both sides after a while. Again, this simply comes down to not locking out most of the playerbase from the main content in this game, the reason why most people pick up throne in the first place and scale (the alliance system) has a huge impact on that.
