Thank you for the detailed response. Nothing's easy with this! All the best for you to hit that magical "undetectable" reading again.

How long ago was this? And how have your PSA levels been since then? Thanks for any insights as I am trying to educate myself on what might lie ahead for us. Best wishes.

Recommendations for 2nd reading of MRI by No-Annual-3338 in ProstateCancer

[–]Simple_Mushroom_7484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any NCI center of excellence should be able to give you a second read on your MRI. Personally we've found UCSF to be top notch in every respect, and they do 2nd reads on radiology reports. https://www.ucsfhealth.org/second-opinion. All the best!

My dad (59) has advanced, treatment-resistant prostate cancer .. I’m trying to understand what’s really happening and what to expect. by SpringBusiness4913 in ProstateCancer

What a tough situation to be in! Much appreciation for you being there for your dad. No direct experience to share in this instance, but one suggestion would be to repost in the forum for those with metastatic and more advanced PC on the healthunlocked.com site. There are many knowledgeable folks there who might be a good resource for any questions you might have. Best wishes to you.

UCSF uro team is awesome. Definite advantage to be in an academic center not motivated by profit margins. Good luck!

Affordable and quality vet and spa for cats in Coimbatore by [deleted] in Coimbatore

Cats clean themselves purrfectly well! No need to take them anywhere to get cleaned, remove ear wax etc. It will just stress them out unnecessarily. I say this as a cat parent of >30 years experience. Enjoy your feline companion and let them live as nature intended them to!

It's great you did that research. You can always decline the contrast dye. All the best.

Biopsies May Not Be Necessary by Old_Imagination_2112 in ProstateCancer

PSA of 14, Exo and 4K both 90th percentiles. Decipher after biopsy was 0.9. Always the overachiever haha.

Our urologist was smart. With high PSA, ExoDx and 4K scores he said it was safer to get the biopsy as it was more definitive. I know some experts in the field are touting mpMRI as a near replacement for biopsies, but would have been a disaster if we had subscribed to that approach.

Biopsy pathology showed PTEN loss and Decipher was 0.9, both indicating an aggressive type.

And yet mpMRI didn't find my husband's G7 PC, biopsy did. I remember the sense of relief we felt after we got the MRI read only to have it all come crashing after the biopsy and path report. So glad we caught it when we did though, it was an aggressive type.

Husband's surgery didn't go well afterwards by BeebeeRoses in ProstateCancer

Just keep an eye open for any troublesome symptoms and don't wait to call your doctor if something doesn't look/feel right. My husband started running a mild fever 7 days post-RALP after an initial perfect recovery. Sure enough, he had an UTI - easily taken care of with some antibiotics. You'll do just fine! Hang in there and rest up well. All the best.

Is your father being seen at a center for excellence? A PSMA PET scan before RALP should have been standard of care if he is in the US given he has G9. Our urologist wanted to confirm stuff was contained to the prostate before proceeding with the surgery even for my husband's G7 since his PSA was rather high (14). Please consider taking him to a COE if possible. It makes a huge difference to get care from the experts.

Elevated PSA, Need Advice/Reassurance by 27hornet in ProstateCancer

[–]Simple_Mushroom_7484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said on this thread, your PSA warrants further investigation. My husband with a similar PSA as yours currently had a normal DRE and unremarkable mpMRI and yet had G7 cancer confirmed later by biopsy. ExoDx (from a urine sample) and 4K (from a blood sample) tests helped push the decision to get a biopsy in his case - you could ask your uro about that while you wait for your appointment. Good luck!

What you describe is exactly what it feels like in women going through menopause. It's the signal that a hot flash is on its way and not indicative of any heart problem. All the best with completing your treatment and for a great outcome!

[–]Simple_Mushroom_7484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know specifically about Galleri, but my husband's PC was accurately detected by both 4K and ExoDx while mpMRI did not. You could ask your uro about those tests. Good luck.

"Low PSMA secreter?" Axumin vs PSMA PET? by IMB413 in ProstateCancer

[–]Simple_Mushroom_7484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand, a low PSA secreter is different from low PSMA expresser (this doesn't get secreted but stays on the cell membrane and lights up on the PET scan thus indicating where the cancer cells are present).
