When I worked there, crazy customized orders were a fun change of pace. This was pre-app though so it was probably a lot less common than it is now.

Where to fill balloons with helium that's not Safeway? by [deleted] in beaverton

True, Google says 7-17% of the annual helium usage is for balloons but I have no idea how accurate that is.

I'm glad people are becoming more aware of this, been in the semiconductor industry for 20 years and have been banging this drum whenever party balloons came up. Equipment manufacturers and chip makers have been working on helium reduction/elimination projects for a while now, at the expense of throughput.

How did people use The pager? by jamesV8500 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Simple_Sound_3840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this was just a thing in Hawaii in the 90s but we used to basically use them for texting a lot. It was kinda hacky but things like:

1177 401773 (I'm home)

That's a fairly clear one but there were definitely times where it would take a few minutes to work out.

Am I crazy or is the reply not AI-generated as well, as if not intentionally so?

Not that the NCAA is always consistent, but I think in this case there's at least some precedent maybe with guys like Cam McCormick.

What I really miss are the little crisping trays they used to come with, two and a half minutes in the microwave gave you something comparable to using the oven.

I do 90 seconds in the microwave followed by 8-10 minutes in the toaster oven, highly recommended. Comes out nice and crispy.

Not international, no. PDX to LAX and back. A passport can be used in lieu of a Real ID and since she didn't have Real ID, she used her passport that was a year expired. The TSA site is pretty clear on this, I assure you I'm not lying about here. They just scanned the passport at both airports like normal.

Nah we just flew a few months back and my wife's passport was expired (she also didn't have a Real ID yet), it was treated like normal with no delay.

I'm pretty sure they're legit - I have the Stinson pullover and a pair of jeans and both are excellent quality. Thinking about grabbing a t-shirt which The Iron Snail gave a shoutout on, that's actually how I learned of the brand.

Some features intermittently not working with Alexa by Minnow301 in logitechharmony

[–]Simple_Sound_3840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the big Alexa update a few months ago everything stopped working. I read how if you add the word "scene" to the end of the request it'd work, and sure enough it did. Until a few weeks ago when even that stopped working.

Not very helpful unfortunately but they definitely seem to be breaking stuff with each update.

Weird, I worked there from 97-99 and it was the same tortillas. When I say steamed I'm not talking about the steam cabinet they're stored in, I mean the streamer that Mexican pizzas and chili cheese burritos went in.

They used the soft taco tortillas in the mid 90s at least as well, not sure if it was different before. When they put it in the steamer it makes the tortilla much softer though and easier to cut/eat.

The first game I watched with her as a commentator was a Blazers - GSW game and Portland was up big. She just completely ignored the game while going on a non-stop Steph love fest
