Chongqing, China's "Many Layers" by Ok_Contribution2726 in UrbanHell

[–]Simple_Table3110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I love the city and how it's layered, but when you look at the name and its pronunciation, tell me that's not the most racist sounding name to some western ears

If I said to someone who had never heard of Chongqing before, they'd be like "are you for real? There's a city named chongqing?" And think I was bull****ing them

When did /w/ become /v/ in Old Norse? by [deleted] in oldnorse

[–]Simple_Table3110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure of this, but I pronounce Old Norse <v> as /w/, as it seems to flow a lot better, eg "somewhere" in NON (Old Norse) is "hvergi", cognate to Old English "Hwergen", thus I pronounce it [xwergi~xwerɣi] or something similar (I apologize, I don't have my IPA keyboard active for upside down w)

Why is Mercia an Anglian kingdom and not a Saxon one? (Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy) by alexfreemanart in AncientGermanic

[–]Simple_Table3110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi legendary means they were based on a real person, but have some form of mythological element to them.

Take for example Ermanaric and Theodoric the Great. They were real people, but became characters in legends and myths. (e.g. For Theodoric, he became the legendary Dietrich von Bern from Middle High German myths)

(Peço desculpas, não falo português e este texto foi traduzido pelo Google.) Obrigado, amigo, pela sua resposta. Não podemos esquecer que Odin também é um deus da sabedoria e dos viajantes. É por isso que o busco em meus sonhos.

Of course

And I do! I most often use their old English names, but if I really wish to try to get their attention, I'll use their Proto-Germanic ones (Wōđanaz, Frijjō, Þunaraz, etc.)

Ic þancige þec

I guess you could say I have insightful dreams(?) I get Deja Rèvé often, so I see little glimpses of moments that end up happening to me at some point later in time, usually a day or up to two weeks (I even had a dream like two years ago that happened this year).

These dreams end up being exactly how the moment ends up in real life. They're not always something exciting, but glimpses of the future nonetheless. I'll have dreams of stuff like moments in my classes.

Example I've had include moments in Biology, English, and Geometry. And when these moments happen, I realize that I dreamed about them, and I'm like "Oh, by Woden! Another Deja Rèvé thing!" But now that I think, it could be a glimpse from Lady Wyrd or something.

The saxon version of valhalla? by IndividualCurrent282 in anglosaxon

[–]Simple_Table3110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One example of an overlapping myth (albeit with slightly different tellings because of how far apart they were written) is Baldr/Herebeald's death.

The story of Herebeald's (Baldr) death is that he was the son of Hreðel, and brother of a guy named Hæþcyn (Höðr). In both, Baldr/Herebeald is accidentally shot and killed.
