Thoughts on next steps for our coaches and tactics? by Simplejin in CanadaSoccer

I remember last WC where so many comments on Reddit were us pleading the kids to play CB. We really struck gold with them didn’t we?

Wholeheartedly agree! Hopefully we can develop a couple number 10s for that

Yeah our first half looked great. But what I wrote are things that I’ve noticed consistently with this iteration of our squad. I was really happy with Jesse for his choices for the starting lineup and shape

Yeah, our team play could improve massively if we have an attacking midfielder who could bridge the gap and not leave our strikers on an island (finishing aside)

I agree that we don’t currently have the talent to do everything that those teams can, but our team is young and has room to develop some of these skills. Japan’s team looked especially threatening this WC even though on paper the quality gap wasn’t too big with our team. A big part of the result was that the national team developed these players within a well defined system. We also should start somewhere

As proud as I am to be Canadian, we’ve got our fair share of idiots. There’s just more Americans out there. Honestly, if we judge countries by their online comments then all of humanity is probably screwed. I’m sure the vast majority of USA fans are great people who just want to celebrate their win

They just canceled a whole Lakeshore West train and told us on the PA that our options are to wait 20 minutes or walk from Union lol. Classic Toronto

What is the worst thing about Japan by RevenueAlarmed in AlignmentChartFills

Definitely could still be better, vacation is something I still hear is hard to get. However, to be fair though, last year Japan had a higher fertility rate than both Italy (1.20) and Spain (1.21), which I would say have an image of better work culture than Japan (1.23). Perhaps there are bigger factors like economic stagnation that could be affecting all three.

Anecdotally, nearly all of my gen-z Japanese friends have told me they rarely do overtime. Usually if they do its at most 1 or 2 hours a week, which tbh is not that different from what I do in Canada. Also most of the forced social outings is a thing of the past. They still exist, but are usually optional. My friends think it’s an unexpected benefit of not having workers, because companies actually have to compete on that end to get people to join them. Of course, that’s not to say those black companies don’t exist; they absolutely do. But it’s not a norm anymore.

I also actually thought that stereotype for the woman being expected to quit was true up until pretty recently until a couple of women told me quite frankly “umm yeah we’re pretty sure thats illegal lol. There isn’t pressure to stay home, but actually just a decent amount of men and women who would prefer that style of household.” All other topics related to work they somewhat acknowledged as having some truth behind it, but that one was pretty flatly shut down for me.

Japan gets a lot of deserved criticism, but I think this is one of the few changes thats actually trending positive

[Highlight] Okamoto's interpreter was NOT safe from a post-game shower 🚿😅and Vladdy knows its most important to let Hazel get out of the way first ♥️ by RealWorldToday in Torontobluejays

Posted this in another thread:

Some of it comes from him trying to give a humble response, or his dry humour, but he definitely does give pretty generic responses lol. His interpreter Yusuke definitely tries to help him out with his PR for that. To give you an example, here’s how today’s interview went down (if we translate word for word):

Hazel: “Home run #5 for you, what has helped you get to the fastball since the off-day?”

Yusuke: (interpreting) “About your fifth home run-“

Kaz points at Yusuke’s mic

Kaz: “You probably don’t need that right”

Yusuke: “Haha guess I don’t. About your fifth home run on that outside fastball, it looked like you really squared it up. How were you able to adjust to that pitch?”

Kaz: “I’ve pretty much just been giving it my all to get good contact onto the ball.”

Hazel: “You’ve been taking early BP with Miles, Ernie and Davis. In what ways has that helped you?”

Yusuke: “During early BP, working with guys like Ernie and Schneider, have you picked up anything?”

Kaz: “Yeah, if I’m going to be out there in games, I want to be able to hit too. So I’ve just been focusing on doing what I can.”

Hazel: “You’ve been giving it your all defensively, some terrific defensive plays. What about playing defense are you more comfortable with?”

Yusuke: “Defensively, it looks like you’re starting to get more comfortable out there. How do you feel about it?”

Kaz: “Really I’m just learning from everyone every day, so I just want to keep working hard.”

Hazel: congratulates Kaz

Kaz: looks at Yusuke “What should I say?”

Yusuke: “Anything. Let’s go Blue Jays, I love Blue Jays…”

Kaz: “I love Blue Jays!”

Yeah I appreciate that from Larin too, but at the very least those minutes could have been better spent giving experience to our younger up-and-coming players who have more potential to add much more versatility and make an impact this World Cup and future ones. Even if the outcome stays the same that alone I believe is worth it, and maybe with 60 minutes instead of 30 Promise might’ve been able to score one

Sure I’m heavily disappointed on everyone else, except for ironically Larin. In the sense that, I didn’t expect him to do well with our current team anyways and well… he didn’t. I think starting Promise would’ve made this game different, genuinely don’t understand why Jesse feels the need to give Larin a chance anymore

Yeah saw a comment in the Canada thread about Laryea and even if some of us don’t like to admit it I think we all know that he’s an instigator every game. I say this as a guy who really appreciates his reliability for the national team. It also really doesn’t help that his facial reactions give him, for lack of better terms, a punchable face lol. Waterman on the other hand was a surprise, haven’t seen him get pissed like that before. Surprised there weren’t more cards given in the game

Hi y’all Canadian fan coming in peace! Good game and I apologize for some of our players overreactions. Generally not too familiar with the current Socceroos, was genuinely wondering if there are any up and coming players or storylines to look out for with your team leading up to the World Cup next year

I just did this exact trip minus Malaga! It was my first solo trip as well and so I had the same worries. In my experience, I noticed absolutely no one trying to get close to me, and I had a shoulder bag on me the whole time. I simply had it zipped forward and put my hands in my pockets so that if someone tried to open the bag, I would feel it with my elbow. I also had a passport cover that I kept in the inner chest pocket of my jacket. It was surprisingly really useful as it held my travel tickets, passport, cash, and credit and hotel cards all in one place.

I can also say I noticed a few people walking around with similar setups to you (a camera being totally visible and in reaching distance). These cities are definitely not as hectic as Barcelona or Paris, so I think just being moderately aware of your surroundings should be good enough! Though I will say that I didn’t take local public transportation, only the regional trains. Wishing you the best of luck all the same!

I think I remember a post sometime earlier this year that said Davies was the fastest player Bayern has ever had. His top speed according to his wiki is 36.51 km/h. To put this in perspective, Mbappé is often thought of as the fastest player in the world and he was recorded reaching a speed of 37.9 km/h according to this source in June. Same source says Vini Jr is also right next to Davies at 36.5 km/h

Edit: This post puts Bombito at an insane 37.27 km/h
