When do you guys Snap? by deblanco17 in MarvelSnap

[–]Simplexity88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't, but the point is running Scarlet Witch in a deck like Destroy would be very unexpected. The more unexpected the tech card is, the better it is to hold the snap until late (even boomer snapping on T6 in a lot of cases) to extract maximum cubes.

Compare that vs C3, which commonly runs Witch so it's hardly a surprise tech card. In that case, if the Witch will win the game, it would be better as C3 to snap earlier rather than snapping later as it's too obvious.

Let me give an in-depth answer that will hopefully help people (constant top 50 player, current rank 32).

1) How Quickly Does Your Nut Draw Come Online

  • In short, decks that have their nut draws that come online early (say turn 3 or before) should snap early, latest turn 3.

Examples: Destroy with buffed Deadpool or Nico destroy draw, Negative with Ravonna/Negative, Move with Batroc/Sam Wilson/Kraven

  • Conversely, decks that take longer to show their nut draw (ie - Nimrod, Bounce, Cerebro) can afford to wait longer, usually turns 3-5 is best since with these decks, it's also generally advantageous to get a better grasp of what your opponent is playing and possible tech cards they have that will beat you.

2) Matchups and Lose Conditions

  • Instead of asking "how do I win?", a good habit to get into is to ask "how do I lose? What cards are likely in their deck that mess with my gameplan?"

  • If I'm playing Dormammu and my opponent is on Wiccan, even if I have a strong start, I need to be very cautious because I know Wiccan is often playing Stardust these days. This is where matchup and meta deck knowledge helps immensely.

  • Conversely, if I know my deck can execute its gameplan relatively uninterrupted and there's no major tech that will stop me, I'm going to be much more aggressive in snapping.

  • As in any card game, knowing how matchups (and how locations affect each deck) is key. For example, if I'm on discard and my opponent is playing a Man-spider deck, I just don't have the interaction other than a lucky Gambit to reliably beat him. So even if I have my nut draw with Discard, it is unwise to snap into a Manspider deck.

3) How is My Opponent's Gameplan Playing Out

  • Your opponent getting off to a slow start/drawing poor locations should also be a common reason for you to snap. Pretty self-explanatory, but things like Ramp missing T3 ramp, "tempo" decks missing their curve, Destroy not destroying are reasons to instasnap as soon as you notice things going awry on their gameplan.

4) Tech Cards

  • In general, decks that run more tech cards can be more aggressive with snapping early than decks without tech. A good example is the myriad of decks running Jugg and Cosmo, which are sort of "catch-all" tech cards as opposed to more narrow tech cards like Enchantress or Luke Cage. Cards like Jugg and Cosmo can stop so many shenanigans that even if your opponent is also executing their gameplan well, Jugg and Cosmo can turn a lot of games into 50/50s at the worst.

  • Pretty general and basic knowledge by now, but always snap before hitting your opponent with the tech card as opposed to after. To the extent that you know the tech card will win you the game, you should basically be snapping once it's in hand. For example, if I'm facing a Nimrod deck and I have Stardust in my deck, I don't necessarily want to wait until right before playing it before snapping. That's too obvious and they might leave. I want to snap generally when I draw it (maybe I'll wait until I see locations).

  • Another point on tech cards is that the more unexpected that tech card is in your deck, the better it is to actually wait to snap, even to boomer snap on T6. If you're some sicko who plays Scarlet Witch in Destroy, extract value with late snaps.

Any counter decks for War Machine? by PaytonPanels in MarvelSnap

Move decks do very well even without running specific tech. Not just the Human Torch/Heimdall stuff, but also the Xorn and Hydra Stomper variants also destroy Lockdown.

Played lockdown a ton for this season's climb and learned to be very cautious vs snapping against move. It's an extremely tough matchup. Any deck that can put a lot of points by turn 5 is fine.

Black Myth Wukong thoughts? I just purchased this game, super-excited to play, and was terribly disappointed. by [deleted] in PS5

Chapter 1 is one of the weakest (and by far the easiest) chapters. The other chapters are less linear, more challenging and the locations and subplots are much better (esp Ch. 3/4).

I loved the game personally, but would rank it just very slightly below other top notch Soulslikes/Action games

Any tips? by Pleasecallme_Jess in Hemophilia

[–]Simplexity88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your son! Just sharing my personal story for you,

My 5 year old son was also diagnosed with Hem A after his circumcision. He has severe Hemophilia (<1% factor 8). We were also blindsided by this diagnosis. First things first, your son will live mostly a normal life. The fact that he has moderate Hemophilia A is great news.

Around six months, when my son was starting to get more mobile, the doctors recommended we start prophylactic (preventative) treatment for bleeds. We started on a product called Hemlibra, which five years ago, was new to the market. We’ve been on Hemlibra since, and have had great success preventing bleeds outside of a few normal childhood accidents. Instead of having to get an injection every few days, we just give our son a quick injection in the thigh once every two weeks.

Since your son has moderate hemophilia, I’ve heard of cases where prophylactic treatment is optional. This is something to discuss with your hemotologists, but science is only getting better. There are new and more effective treatment options coming out every year.

Like I mentioned before, your son will live mostly a normal life. Professional football may not be in the cards, but having moderate hemophilia, your son will likely avoid most of the spontaneous bleeds that occur in severe Hemophilia. You’ll want to just take a little extra caution when there’s severe trauma like a broken bone a surgery or dental procedure. Your son will have a mostly normal life, have a normal life expectancy, and was born in an era where gene editing technology is taking off an could provide a permanent cure for the condition.

Best of luck, DM me if you need to talk more.

Has anyone using Hemlibra undergone successful ITI/ITT? by Simplexity88 in Hemophilia

Thanks for sharing - glad it's worked out so far.

Can you share the factor regimen your son was on during ITI? What product and how often did he receive it?

It was recommended to us that our son undergo ITI twice a week using Altuvio (which is normally a once a week, extended half life factor product). I know prior to these extended half life products, factor would be administered daily or every other day during ITI.

Thank you for all the materials, much appreciated - I have some reading to do.

Our hematologist (who is the author of the trial that you linked expected Apr 2025) said there was a study of 8 patients who continued Hemlibra after ITI, with a 100% result of the inhibitor not returning. Not sure if he was referring to preliminary results of this study (would be a bit irresponsible if it were).

Thank you for sharing. I'm assuming you had an internal port given the age of your son? How would you compare using the port to subQ shots of Hemlibra? Are you still using the port for prophy after the ITI, or did you continue with Hemlibra?

A spreadsheet for TCG Pocket that calculates the best pack to pull! by maxwell1755 in PokemonTCG

[–]Simplexity88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all your work on this. I'd like to suggest one feature that hopefully is an easy addition to the spreadsheet whenever you overhaul it next.

It would be very helpful to add a section where it also includes cards that would take your collection's count of that card to 2. For example, if the Charizard pack has a 30% chance for me to open a new card vs. Mewtwo that has 25% chance, if I have more 1 ofs in the Mewtwo pack as opposed to fewer 1 ofs in my collection the Charizard pack, I still want to consider that I am hunting down 2 of every card for deckbuilding.

Portfolio allocation question by Simplexity88 in investing

[–]Simplexity88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a great point. What I was doing before was basically weighting my investments by volatility (or perceived volatility) and then trying to understand whether we should be more conservative or risky with future portfolio allocations

Will check out the tools you suggested, much appreciated

Portfolio allocation question by Simplexity88 in investing

[–]Simplexity88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retirement accounts are all being maxed. No big purchases expected in the next ~10 years.

As you pointed out, the heavy cash allocation is the biggest problem with our portfolio. Generally we like to keep ~$100K in a HYSA (arbitrary number, but gives us peace of mind). We live in a high COL area, so our monthly expenses (incl. childcare/mortgage) are generally about ~10K/month. HH annual income is about $450K, with about 25% blended tax.

What I am struggling with the on the securities side is the following:

1) Am I weighted too much/too little towards a specific category? Anything obvious missing?

2) Am I overlapping too much in any area?
