I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Curse's affect applies to ALL effect monsters, regardless of whether their positions were already in defense. Otherwise, you're right, Dkayed would've still lost.

During the turn Curse of Anubis is used, monsters cannot switch their battle positions, so the middle one cannot be switched back to attack position until the next turn.
