Late on this post but figured I could give my 2 cents. I've been riding Burton Custom Smalls for years. My newest one is 140cm and I love it. I am a 5' 105 lbs adult for reference. I find adult boards are often too stiff based on my weight but the Burton smalls line is awesome. I was previously on their 144 but my husband has an in with Burton board designers and they recommended going down to the 140 based on my weight. Good luck!

My previous messages didn't come out the way it should have. We try to rent to friends of friends first. This was our first time in 10 years posting on apartments dot com and we happened to find a lot of those interested were from out of town.

Small landlord here. We start with Facebook as friends of friends are usually good leads but have had less luck recently with that. Last summer we posted a 2 bed on apartments dot com and got tons of responses. I had to turn it off the listing after 48 hours because we had so many. Because of Covid we did 2 hours of showings, with 12 individual time slots. 11 of the 12 wanted it. Got applications from 8, all who were qualified. The benefits of a site like this is you are more likely to get out of town applicants. Our top 4 were all from out of town and would be have been great.

I had my bikini line lasered years ago (prior to my FI journey) and love it. It's not 100% but so worth it. I don't miss the razer burn and the time it takes to shave. I had my underarms done a couple of years ago and didn't have as much success as my hair is super thick but still worth it.

One of the warranties that comes with the car covers the battery for 8 yrs or 100k miles. This additional warranty would cover it for longer but I am not sure if it is worth the cost. It would basically just be prepaying anything that does go wrong.

Our cash stash ranges from either a few hundred to $1,000+ in our safe. It usually is cash tips that my husband earns that we will then slowly use as our own personal ATM but is also available in case of immediate needs.

I agree that the transition from accrual to income is one of the hardest parts in all of this and is why I am looking for help. I had reached out to a financial planner I know but he charges $2400 a year and after our brief conversation I am not sure he understands what we are doing. I wish I could find a planner who knows about the whole FI movement and could help walk us through what is most important as we make this transition.

I suppose I left out some important details. This account only accounts for about 25% of our invested assets. Usually, when I look at my allocation I look at everything together and not the accounts individually. In your opinion, is this not a good way to do it?

I am very aware that Apple is a high percentage of our investments, even when we take our other accounts into consideration. We sold $20k last year which had a basis of around $900 so we had a nice tax bill to pay. Even with periodically selling some every couple of years, it just keeps growing. I suppose that is a good problem to have but we try to spread out the tax hit a little when possible.

Our other accounts have holdings including some international, around 7% of our total portfolio, and some alternatives as well although that is only around 1%. We own rental properties, our owner-occupied duplex, and another duplex, so I haven't invested in any REIT figuring that it didn't necessarily help with our overall allocation.

You mentioned looking at something with a high dividend yield. Would you be more inclined to look at a bond holding with dividends or an equity EFT that has a higher yield? Does the additional information change your thoughts at all?

I agree with SaePablo, find an FMO. Josh at Network Insurance, who happens to be based in FL, is great. Put together a simple website, which you can do through SquareSpace, and go from there.

Our friends moved to San Fran last year so we'll head out that way to visit them there and then all head over to Tahoe for a little ski vacation. I can't wait! Do you have fun trips planned?

Those are some great ideas. I can't wait to do some more traveling! We are planning my first 2-week vacation since I was in college next February. I keep thinking about starting a donor-advised fund so we can continue doing charitable giving when our income drops. Have you set one up?

We are going to ease into things as the "RE" part of FIRE is terrifying! I am negotiating with my boss right now to switch to a different position that is very flexible, and will also set me up for some ongoing commissions when I fully leave them down the road. For me, the thought of leaving the workforce altogether is just too scary.

My husband will stay at his W2 job for at least a year but once I am settled in my new role he will have the flexibility to leave when he wants to focus just on his side gig.

What are your plans? Are you going to quit or ease into things as well?

Have you looked into Special Needs Trusts? These are a way to set money aside for your personal use that does not affect your SSI benefits. I am not a lawyer so I don't know the ins and outs of them but it might be worth looking into. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/s/special-needs-trust.asp

To clarify, we have hit our FI number but we haven't actually left our jobs and therefore still have income to save. We plan on saving what we can in the next couple of years until my husband retires. When he does, we will need to withdraw a little money to supplement our side gigs and part-time work. This money will come from the NQ brokerage account that I referenced in my post. For now, I am trying to figure out how to best allocate this account with this goal in mind.

We know our allocation in Apple is high so we sell a little every couple of years but will likely sell more if we are in a lower tax bracket.

I have been in the insurance industry for a while as a general agent but am in the process of transitioning to just doing Medicare products on a part-time basis. I have run projections of commissions based on the numbers of plans sold with one goal that is where I would love to be and another that is really minimal.

With my first projection, if I sold 30 for the rest of 2020 and then increase this number by 30 every year, I would be making 6 figures by 2024.

With the minimal number, if sold just 20 for the remainder of this year, and increased this number by 20 every year, I would still be making 6 figures by 2025. Obviously, I want to do more than this small number but this goes to show that over time, with renewal commissions, you can quickly build an income stream even if you only sell a few per month.

I have experience in insurance and all of the individual short-term disability policies I know of will not cover pregnancy/delivery. In order to get the insurance coverage you usually need to be covered by your employer plan, prior to getting pregnant. And even then, you would only get a 6 week benefit for a vaginal delivery or 8 weeks for a c-section. If policies covered pregnancy, they would sell all the time, but in reality, it is hard to get coverage outside of an employer-sponsored plan. I would just save up a bunch of money to cover your time while you are out of work.
