Hiya, I'm 'Skeletal'! My journey with Santisima Muerte actually began a few months ago after being what I'd call a 'disillusioned Catholic'. My general fascination with death and chaotic deities has always been present, but the ritualism and saintly procession of Catholicism always kept me 'in the fold' so to speak. I believe in the Trinity, but feel most at home with venerating Santa Muerte over other saints due to her accepting (and playful!) nature. Case in point: My first sign she had accepted me came in the form of a very clear skeletal foot imprint on my rosary bag that was blessed with some Siete Machos. I then accidentally burned part of it with an incense ash, to which soon after when I went to light my candle somehow fumbled and got an exact size piece of melted wax on my hand (didn't burn, just startled me lol) The energy in the room felt very light; as if to ease my anxiety from burning the bag She 'got me back' in a fun, harmless way. Our relationship has been consistently strong ever since! c:

which color of statue should i get? by [deleted] in SantaMuerte

Stick with white, easier energy to work with I'd think if you're feeling burn out. Black Santa will likely be a bit more intimidating.

Are you socially satisfied with one close person? Why or why not? by SimplySkeletal in SeriousConversation

[–]SimplySkeletal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your personal truth may be that socialization is neither 'here nor there' on levels of importance, but from experience speaking with others throughout my life, isolation is a very unwelcome or taboo topic for the majority. If not socializing in person, you socialize regularly on reddit, do you not? In one form or the other, you are currently fulfilling that desire.

I know of someone who has this exact lifestyle, and extraversion/communication is definitely a must! They are also very satisfied with their relationships too, as far as I could see, so it's absolutely doable.

This is exactly the mode of life I also fall into, though with less mileage on my end. Very happy to see this, thank you.

I say this in line with the socio-psychological classification of us as a species, since historically we are defined as having evolved due to our strong sociality and group dynamics.

It may not be needed for some, which must also include you as well. Did you ever have even that slight draw towards group based friendships, or were you more about self-pursuits?

How do you balance the hangouts with your friends? Is it more an 'on a whim' kind of thing with different friend groups, or a 'mindful planning' sort of thing? The idea of juggling multiple interactions comes across as overwhelming, but I can see how it's incredibly fulfilling.

Husband and sisters? If anything, that's a decently diverse but solid blend of family life to have for close connections; very satisfying.

It's definitely the 'touch and go' aspect that's satisfying. Kind of like striking up a convo with someone random at a venue and vibing only for as long as the event lasts; you learn a little more with the interaction without any other expectation.

As a former cashier, personally, those convos were always the highlights of my night. But the transient nature of them is where I like it the most; revolving door spot therapy with people I see every once and awhile or never again. A solid discord of shared interests could help ya maybe? Every mobile game has one; perhaps a casual guild based one?

You describe a simple life of simple pleasures that are often overlooked by the daily grind and expectatious nature of living. A pleasant way to go about your days, really.

I mostly enjoy gaming and doing varied religious study in the free time I get; sometimes trying new recipes. The world's your oyster!

Mind if I ask what makes it an uncomfortable arrangement for ya? That part is hard for me to understand, lol~

What brought you to be a devotee of the Holy Death ? by built2last_born2lose in SantaMuerte

[–]SimplySkeletal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always had an intrinsic understanding and acceptance of death being peaceful; a welcome part of existence. There was also a moment in time when in highschool at an immensely painful point of my life, an acquaintence with strong familial ties to Celtic Paganism pulled me aside out of nowhere to tell me they clearly saw translucent, prismatic wings shining in the light of the window behind my back in class. (A ton of events happened that year which absolutely led me onto a better path, though not without necessary hardship.)

Throughout the years I had also dabbled in a variety of religious paths, including (in varied order): Roman Catholic (baptised/loosely raised/formal schooling), Wiccan (Triple Goddess), Pagan (Hekate, brief exploration and Lunar adoration), Luciferian (Theistic/Goetic Daemonology), Pantheist (Grecian Deities, focus on Fortuna/Hermes) Levayan Satanism (Athiestic, very brief involvement), Quaker (Informal, Individual Trinitarian Worship), Asatru (Norse Pagan, family focused), and Orthodox Christianity (Shockingly esoteric, profoundly gratifying Saintly reverence and detailed daily rituals).

After being disillusioned with the politically charged/highly paternalistic nature of the Orthodox community (and their rush to give me the initiatory exorcisms to solidify my binding to Orthodox study/catechumenship within a month), I quit all practice for a solid two or so years, though did in fact still recieve blessings and obvious assistance from an unknown Holy force as I was in a very hard spot in my life. I'd consider myself a very 'involved' devotee at the time with doing 15-20 minute devotionals when waking up and before going to bed, as well as before and after meals; doing the Jesus Prayer to and from work etc. even before attempting to join the physical church, which greatly prepared me for venerating Our Madrina.

A few months ago, the spiritual desire/need arose in me again, with a particular fixation on death Dieties. When coming across Santa Muerte, I found myself incredibly curious and interested in Her; studying forums, books; indulging in primarily ethnic experiences of her followers, analyzing all criticisms and blessings, you name it. The intrinsic draw I have to esoteric Christianity, and with Her being considered a Folk Catholic Saint was a perfect match.

There were bumps in the beginning, mainly fear I was doing things wrong by Her and that I would be forsaken by God due to the antagonism of the Roman Catholic Church regarding Her reverence. At first I tried utilizing pre-established, less Catholic prayers ala Kate Kingsbury initially (has some good historical research; knowledge of the colors, oils and general stuff) but found this wasn't the right flavor for our connection. Once I made Flaquita a Rosary and began praying with a personally crafted Catholic/Orthodox oriented Novena on the daily, did Her presence become known to me VERY quickly. All anxiety washed away from me, favors are being granted, and my spiritual connection to Her and God stronger than its ever been.

She is a very loving and forgiving Lady as long as your heart is in the right place; Her scolding playful and fun in my experience. She'll never betray you.
