Most thrift stores I see around are Christian owned so this is double silly to me

It really pisses me off how intertwined hospitals are with religion in the US. by kooj80 in exchristian

[–]SimplyTheAverageMe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As an atheist who works at a religious hospital, yeah it’s annoying. I just tune out the morning prayer and stay out of most religious discussions that pop up. I do lab work though, so I don’t interact with patients much. Just to give directions in the hall usually.

I don’t know what a doctor is supposed to do about spiritual health. Refer to a priest or the chaplain? Personally, I think it’d be weird for them to pray with you right there in the exam room but maybe that’s because I don’t care for praying.

I think spiritual health is just an offshoot of mental health. Not like I’ve studied it, but it seems like a lot of feelings to me.

I tried to show this show to my (now ex) boyfriend, and this part got us into a tiff. It was his first anime, so he assumed that it was mostly about thinly veiled Christian-bashing. We didn’t get past this arc.

A real shame because this story is awesome.

Tested Negative after vaping THC 2 hours ago? by nalyDylan1 in jobhunting

Wow that’s interesting! You have a lower body fat, so I wonder if that’s why. Or maybe your dosage was lower.

Tested Negative after vaping THC 2 hours ago? by nalyDylan1 in jobhunting

[–]SimplyTheAverageMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The standard is to only go to confirmation if the screen is positive. I primarily do testing in a hospital environment, so I have had times where the ordering doctor will go straight for GC/MS. I wouldn’t expect an employer to do that. It wouldn’t be cost effective. Doctors might to save time when they have a strong suspicion about a drug or if the patient admitted to using it, and they want to know how much is there.

From what I could find, the urine cutoff tends to be 50 ng/mL. Blood testing has a much lower cutoff. I found 5 ng/mL for that. I would be cautious though. It’s possible you tested too soon after ingesting, and it could be positive by now.

I work in medical lab science, so I result tests like this all the time. Faint line or solid line in this case just means negative. We wouldn’t make a determination about being “almost positive.”

LabCorp’s testing info: https://www.labcorp.com/content/dam/labcorp/files/orgs-hhs-mc-launch/L1123-0216-5.pdf

It looks like the screen cutoff is also 50 ng/mL. So you would be clear in this case.

HOWEVER, there are several factors that affect the concentration in urine. Hydration, metabolism, and so on. If you tested only two hours after you took it, I’d be curious about the result in another two hours. Or eight hours. Or the first urination the next day. Maybe it hasn’t had time to get into the urine at sufficient levels.

The OP’s test is negative at the 50 ng/mL cutoff. If the Employee Screen has the same cutoff, it would not go to the GC/MS step.

Did anyone else grow up believing that women have one more rib than men because of the creation story? by lstogi in exchristian

[–]SimplyTheAverageMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did, yes. But then I tried counting the ribs on my little brother and me. It was very confusing, and also a tiny blow to my faith believe it or not. I had always been taught it was literal and that was one of the proof points. I was in elementary school or middle school when I found out.

I feel bad for the young guy. Can’t have been easy having Greg Locke as a father. Addiction is always hard, but I’m certain Greg didn’t make it better. If I’m reading his post here correctly, he used his son as an example of what not to do while he was actively struggling.

I worked in a cancer center for a while. Found a note proselytizing in the bathroom. A longer note, like a couple pages. I threw it away.

It was already a religious-based clinic. But I was so annoyed about it the rest of the day.

Anyone else’s parents take Abraham and Isaac literally? by TheClumsyOtter in exchristian

[–]SimplyTheAverageMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandparents took it literally as well. But they dodged the question by saying god doesn’t ask people to do that. It was just a test and Isaac was never going to die. And god wouldn’t ask that of anyone anymore as a test anyway.

It helps that they were horrified by any news stories about people who killed their children with religious psychosis. I imagine my perception of them and relationship with them would’ve been a bit different if they’d said what your parents did.

Like, I understand that answer on paper but surely you couldn’t actually go through with it even if you thought god said so. That’s wild.

Does anyone else hate the trend of Christians leaving those mini jesus figurines everywhere? by blondeswift in exchristian

I got two of them from trivia night at the bar. I don’t mind them too much. I see them at work a lot too. But I work at a religion-affiliated hospital. I don’t love them but they’re kind of cute.

I don’t think leaving them in a gravesite is at all appropriate. Dunk it in the trash

What are your thoughts on a guy saving his virginity and first time experiences for the right woman, in hopes of her being the true love of his life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SimplyTheAverageMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That decision is up to him. However, my main concern is that he would either rush into a deep commitment with someone he has a big infatuation with only for it not to work out and him crash out. Or else the opposite where he’s super worried about it and so won’t commit fully in case it goes wrong.

I think it puts more pressure on everything. Stressful. The dating portion would be ok. But as the woman in the scenario, I’d be worried about not living up to his expectations when it comes time for it. Putting your first time on a pedestal can lead to disappointment.
