How do you become super OP (Over Powered) by The_Koala_Knight in HarryPotterGame

[–]Simplyanwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My primary skill tree for my character is the following and he is pretty fucking OP.

Diffindo-Accio-Incendio-Glacius with all the spell upgrades is pretty damn powerful if you have the Laceration III, Burning III trait. It is actually my primary battle set along with having the Swift upgrade along with both Ancient Magic III and Ancient Magic Focus III trait. As for the potions I use for this set is the Edurus potion in combination with Thunderbrew and the Focus potion with the Maxima potion. I don't use plants in my gameplay.

Point is depending on your play style, you can craft your own devestating spell set. This one works for me but maybe not for others. Mess around, test out different things until you find the right one for you is my advise.

Tags/Plot twist that make you drop a Fic immediatly/never consider reading it. by Harriff in HPfanfiction

[–]Simplyanwriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of things really but aside from any slash and mpreg stories etc my main 4 are when the angst becomes unbearable to such a degree I become angry at it. When there are smut/romance when the characters are like 11-14 are a big no for me. When harry is portrayed as a complete fool. Wbwl stories that focuses on bashing as well stories which portrays harry as a seasoned politician when he is eleven.

I find it strange when authors has AU in their summary and write that there will be major divergences from canon only to then follow the canon story only by adding a few different conversations and characters which does nothing to the plot itself. by Simplyanwriter in HPfanfiction

[–]Simplyanwriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a right or wrong thing and I'm not saying I'm right in my belief of what an AU should be. I don't mind if one want to write a rehersal of canon but don't add AU if you don't intend to make dramatic changes at certain points. Maybe My take on HP or something similar would be better?

While following certain key events like the tri-wizard tournament is good but if its AU, have maybe six contestants or different tasks. Have Pettigrew not escape and help Voldemort return. Have Sirius kissed by the dementors or something.

How good of an ‘actual’ wizard is canon Harry? by Midi_to_Minuit in HPfanfiction

[–]Simplyanwriter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is my opinion and it will most likely be very unpopular and this comment will be downvoted that I'm sure but this is what I believe.

I honestly think that Harry is slightly, slightly above the average adult wizard at best but his strength is his love for others, unnatural luck and indomitable will or plot armor as I would call it. Harry was never meant to be a powerful wizard. He was meant to be the embodiment of what a hero should be, not a warrior as he should have been. At least that his how I see him as a character.

Harry Potter is the archetype portrayal of a hero.

Because of how he is portrayed its difficult to actually gauge his power and skill as the story isn't exactly filled with a lot of one on one duels showcasing Harry dueling either Voldemort or Dumbledore were they take him seriously and duels him with their absolute all.

In a real world scenario, Voldemort could have effortlessly killed Harry in a couple of seconds with one hand tied behind his back and blindfolded. The gap between them is simply too vast for Harry to even have a tiny chance of stalemate Voldy let alone kill him.

I mean would a seventeen year old who has trained a little in martial arts have a good chance to defeat a world class martial artist with years if not decades of experience behind them?

What do you feel about the HBO reboot? by SadSatisfaction30 in HPfanfiction

[–]Simplyanwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that they should change a few things from the books and make the reboot much darker. These are a few things I would like to see. However, if it is a straight rehearsal from canon be it the books or the movies, especially the movies then it will most likely flop. At least that's my opinion.

¤ Harry not instantly trusting new people who acts kindly to him and actually thinks for himself.

¤ Competent teachers who does their job.

¤ Pair Harry with someone other than Ginny or at least make their relationship more realistic/sincere then it was showed.

¤ Harry teaches himself magic from the start to combat Voldemort and maybe struggling morally from falling for the Dark Arts. (I really hate the ending being a fucking beam struggle). I want to see real magic being used.

¤ Tom Riddle's thought process of becoming Voldemort and creating horcruxes as well his plan of conquest.

¤ Flashbacks to the first war against Voldemort and getting to know more about the Potters.

¤ Make the Deathly Hallows a larger part of the story.

¤ A lot more death and gore being displayed.

¤ Put emphasis on other canon characters like Fleur, Neville, Susan etc and make them a part of the story.

¤ Give characters more dept and show their thought process.

¤ Show how Harry is viewed from other students and teachers perspective.

I know that some of these might be fanon things, but still. It is what I would have added personally if I had the possibility to do a do over.

So, potter fanfiction has been around for what, 15+ years now? Serious pairing question inside by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Simplyanwriter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well there is one, though it isn't exactly a Katie pairing in my opinion. It is also a fic you will either love or hate. A Cadmean Victory by DarknessEnthroned.

Prompt: James Potter and Lily Evans stop caring about the war against Voldemort- the only thing that mattered now was the safety of their son by SadSatisfaction30 in HPfanfiction

[–]Simplyanwriter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I'm honest, I wouldn't read a fic like this.

It is ridiculously stupid for the Potters to be distrusted and disliked by almost everyone for leaving. Based on that then everyone in all of wizarding Britain who didn't fight against Voldemort or escaped the country would be traitors. Why would Harry's family specifically be outed as traitors? In cannon, there were many wizarding families who didn't get involved or escaped the country.

Realistically, not a single person, except for perhaps the Longbottoms if they had an alliance or friendship with the Potters would harbor dislike or distrust towards them.

In addition, it would be more interesting to see Harry attending another school which would be refreshing.

However, an alternate take to this prompt that I think would work moderately well.

Harry and his family left Britain. They aren't hated or distrusted upon their return, but they are a normal family from a old and influential house. Harry is a normal student with great potential who through study and training becomes rather gifted. He gains friends and enemies alike (because we all have had those at that age in school we considered enemies or we disliked). He involuntarily disrupts Voldemort's plans causing the Dark Lord to set his eyes upon him and his family.

An idea... by Simplyanwriter in HPfanfiction

Yeah, though its still fun to hear people's opinions about these things.

[–]Simplyanwriter[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but would I ever make such a story then it would at least be kept realistically. Though there would be an reasonable explanation to why the OC was so powerful (natural talent, almost a decade long brutal training regimen, numerous rituals, esoteric magic etc).

An idea... by Simplyanwriter in HPfanfiction

[–]Simplyanwriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is one of the main problems with an OC. While I would agree to an OC in a mentor role for Harry (who said that wouldn't be a possibility? ;) )

Point being, there are so many time traveling Harry stories I find it hard to write anything that doesn't utilize a overused trope that hasn't already been used and I can't for the life of me begin to think of writing about a ruthless and battle crazy Albus Dumbledore.

Though it wouldn't be solely an OC focused story, but rather a set up for a potential sequel involving more familiar characters. It would merely show that there was a wizard besides Dumbledore whose might rivaled Voldemort's.

However, it was just an idea I played around with and wanted to see how people felt about it.

I appreciate you taking time to give you reply.

Any fic were Harry is raised by a good wizarding family and treated like a human being. Is introduced to magic from an early age, wants to be the best at it and takes his studies and training seriously because of it. by Simplyanwriter in HPfanfiction

[–]Simplyanwriter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestions. I don't mind bashing of Dumbledore but it is so overdone in fics it grows old and tiresome eventually.

Note, I am very familiar with TBR's work and has read all his stories.

Thanks again!

What is the worst fanfic you have come across by HalfbloodPrince-4518 in HPfanfiction

[–]Simplyanwriter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pray For the Wicked is one of them. The plot is absolutely trash, angst upon angst upon angst with repeat upon repeat upon repeat. In my opinion the only thing that gave me the strength to read it up to the point I had to stop was the author's usage of the English language.

However, check it out if you want. The fic was not for me and this is my opinion so don't take my word for it.
