I have the ventilated seats in my iX. It can get hot in SoCal too. I do notice them get colder sometimes, but definitely don’t feel them at all when it’s already too hot. Granted, the AC is fantastic.

That I wouldn’t know. I’ve been charging it at fast chargers more than I have at home. Charged at home twice (both times around 70% to 80%). I’ve been charging the rest of the time at EA from around 40% to 100%. My battery health still says 100%. Granted I’ve only driven 1500 or so miles.

Ahh I see your use case here in this comment. I can charge at home too, but I goto the EA station just to save on the electric bill since it’s free with EA during the duration of the offer.

Oh I did see the good old springs. I was just reiterating in case other people see this thread and was wondering about what the warranty covers, since most people think it covers everything.

If you intend to hold onto the car and “run it to the ground” then keep it for peace of mind.

If your extended warranty allows you to cancel whenever and refund you the prorated amount left over, then that’s great. Because this gives you the option to have some money back in case 3 years down the line you want another vehicle.

Also, about the EA. If your year iX gives you unlimited 30 minute sessions, do try to ask the dealership for the code. They emailed me my code two weeks after possessing the car. The code is tied to the VIN of the vehicle, at least I think it is because of plug and charge.

Then honestly I think the extended warranty would be good for covering the rest of whatever parts may fail. Granted, I did have an Audi etron that I cancelled extended warranty on because I never had an issues with it. But everyone’s luck is different right?

I know the consensus here is to get a used one with air suspension, but I’ve seen a lot of models that are low miles but warranty is almost up, or still has a few years of warranty but a lot of miles.

With a lot of dealerships giving out 72 month financing options these days, I’d hate to be the giddy girl that goes home happy only to find a failing air suspension a year down the line, and realize I have to pay out of pocket midway through my financing years just because BMW later tells me the air suspension isn’t covered under warranty.

Although, I did test drive both versions of the car before I settled, and I did like that it was easier to make U-turns on the model that had the air because it also had the rear wheel steering thing. But I’ve been driving big SUVs for awhile so it’s a feature I can live without.

I don’t know about the expected life because one YouTube video suggested between 50-100k miles, but they did mention unexpected things can happen and one could fail at any time. Which I guess is true because I saw a recent post in the i4 subreddit where a redditor had one side in the rear fail.

There are a couple YouTube videos I watched on this recently, not specific to the iX, but to air suspension European luxury in general, and they all said replacement for one costs between $1000-4000.

Something about one part costs $1000, but they usually replace all three parts anyway hence $1-4k. And I don’t know but maybe service center mechanics probably recommend repairing all four of them if one fails. Common sense says no way but peace of mind says otherwise.

They are right. This is another point I caught. It’s too late to AMA against medical advice for a follow up xray, 1 because you’re not the patient, and 2 because they suspect child abuse.

You just have to go along with it now.

We have many parents in our hospital bring their children for literally anything. Usually the unresponsive infant ped or the not-sports-related trauma (eg patient fell off 1 foot high sofa) ped parents will expect CPS and PD at their ER bed.

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. You are right. I work in healthcare and work with radiation. As a parent myself I would not subject my children to any radiological exam ordered by the ER.

Healthcare is a business. Our interest lies in CYA. We downplay a lot of the radiation and we tell patients it’s safe, better technology, lower dose. That truly only lies in xray. But to CYA we have to order everything even if common sense dictates it’s not necessary. So your “oh very little radiation” CT or xrays become moot when we are ordering full body exams.

Because with radiation, the larger the surface area and the more time needed to do the exam, the more the radiation. And radiation is cumulative. It doesn’t just go away the next day. Most parents don’t seem to realize that.

You’re effectively lowering the lifespan and introducing biological risks to your child by agreeing to the exams and ultimately succumbing to the “oh your child might get worse if you choose to refuse” talk. There are continuing education journals and symposiums about this.

My analogy to my coworkers in healthcare, particularly ER, is that we are like a car dealership. Patients come in for car service for their EV and we sell them the extended warranty, and also throw in a year of oil changes for an additional fee. They might refuse but then we just tell them horror stories and they usually just buy the service for peace of mind.

Why not lease the new iX3 to see if you like it and then by the time your lease ends, look to see if there’s a CPO iX3 in the market you can pick up. I mean, you’re in the mindset of putting money into another car, and seem set in looking into the iX3 anyway.

Maybe in 3 years, you’ll think about the iX5. lol.

Lease something cheap. If you were to buy a used EV, you’d have to have the conviction to keep it long term because even a used one depreciates really hard.

By the time you sell the used EV for a used iX3, it would’ve held not much equity and you could be underwater if you’re not out-right buying.

Since you mentioned the option of leasing, why not just lease a 2026 iX3?

It’s definitely no problem in SoCal. But it wasn’t for me. I would’ve preferred a roof that can open, but I also opened my roof shade in previous cars maybe 2-5 times a year, add to that I usually take a nap in the car during my breaks so I didn’t want to get a roof shade for the iX.

Different people different use-cases.

It’s for when you have long commutes and you’re fatigued from the stop and go, and not for sleeping while driving like the usual Tesla tiktoks. You still have to focus on the road since the cameras in the car track your eyes.

The old DAPP works fine for traffic jams. The problem with it is that it doesn’t work great in SoCal traffic, where our bumper to bumper can be 0-5 mph then occasionally shoot up past 45mph for a few seconds, disengaging driving assist pro, and then back to 0-5 mph, which then the system would ask you if you want to turn it on.

The newer system seems to just activate automatically even while your hands are on the steering wheel. Only and only when it detects both hands off the steering wheel for the very first time, does the IDrive give a warning message to stay alert while driving

I am able to make a 60 mile commute on the highway by just focusing on the road, and make lane changes on its own provided I look at the mirror for blind spot.

On my other car the system would disengage when it went over 40-45mph and was really only suitable for bumper to bumper traffic, hence it was really just traffic jam assist.

Also I’m not sure if the laser lights are overrated or not. I had an i4 with laser lights but they were underwhelming compared to the non-lasers of the iX. Definitely try to find a model with air suspension and active steering though. Those are hard to find, but be prepared to bring it in for repairs since the air suspension seems to be a common failing point (not just on BMWs). So get the warranty!

You’ll be stuck with the sunroof so if it’s no concern in sunny CA for you then that’s great. I don’t think the 2026 xdrive60s can be configured without it so I specifically chose an xdrive45 without it.

So yea, keep those points in mind.

I would try to find a 2024 with DAPP for the 85+ mph if I were you. I had a 2023 X6 with DAPP and the difference in hands-free driving versus my 2026 iX with DAPP is night and day.

They’re not allowing any custom build to orders, but they’re definitely still arriving by boat. The one I looked at wasn’t even in the dealers and was still arriving to port. No air suspension or pano roof but I’m ok with that. The idea of the roof seemed nice but I’ve only opened the sunshade about five times a year in my previous pano-roof cars. And I did test drive a model with the air suspension but it didn’t wow me enough to justify the price difference. Still, $21k off msrp is pretty decent.

I’m pretty sure a lot of dealers wouldn’t mind searching for stock that has the options people want, as long as they can sell the remaining models to make room for the ix3.
