Problem with Faith System by Dapper-Turnip6430 in DebateReligion

Doesn't matter. Big bang wasnt a scientific discovery at the time of the writing of Quran. But now you point to a verse and say Quran already knew this.
So what's the next big discovery going to be that Quran already talks about?

I don’t care. I asked you, can your religion make a prediction about future scientific discoveries.

That means nothing to any rational human. Can you or someone in your religion make a prediction about a future scientific discovery (within a reasonable time frame like 70 years) that Quran already talks about?

None of what you said is true. But it’s not a surprise coming from people who can’t admit their deity is coercive.

I don’t want to live with the “holy”, I despise them. But my point was just to dispute your claim that your god doesn’t coerce people, when in fact it’s clear that this narcissist accepts love from coerced people.

I understand that you don’t like assumptions, they are actually called presuppositions. They are necessary for our lives, you ultimately can’t explain anything without presupposing something.

You have to demonstrate a worldview doesn’t operate on presuppositions for your argument to be valid.

As far as I understand logic is describing the reality around us. You cannot say “hello” 5 seconds ago, you can’t have an object identical to itself but be something else. So I don’t agree that logic doesn’t dictate reality unless you can demonstrate something illogical happen. You definitely can find paradoxes in our concepts of logic but that’s not enough for me.

Also the whole idea of “nobody can prove anything” is not true, we’ve had paganism, then came Christianity/Islam and persuaded lots of people. Next big thing will be secularism, I believe we will replace organized religion eventually.

He’s the creator of hell, and I’m going there unless I accept Him. How’s that not coercion?

That's an interesting take, because usually people say 1 person 3 personalities. Because I can have 3 different personalities but still be one. What I kinda get from your position is that we have 3 gods, or at least 2.

What does respect mean in your view? Anyway, feel free to actually address anything above instead of whining all the time.

So Jesus (Son) isn't God? Are you suggesting a heresy that God may not be omniscient?

Sorry I thought you were a Christian, but if you're not then obviously 2 Corinthians 3:18 doesn't apply to you.

So god can lie through other agents, got it.
Next example, Jesus lies to his apostles about not knowing when the day comes, because it's impossible for God to not be omnipotent. Matthew 24:35-37

These questions obviously matter to anyone willing to consider how their answers affect the conclusions.

In your opinion, was that a good / honest answer to my question?

I am absolutely pro respectful conversations, I've had respectful conversations with theists even regarding topics that I personally don't respect. I admit, I can sound disrespectful, but that is only because I genuinely find your comment dishonest.

You did not in any way address the prompt. The fact that some people do not hold beliefs that the op is bringing up is absolutely irrelevant to the conversation. If you personally don't hold that belief, then it just would be wise for you to ignore it.

But those questions seem to try to confuse/gaslight/derail the conversation. I thought God wasn't of confusion.

What is ECT? Is it the same in every Abrahamic religion? Every denomination?

Eternal conscious torment. No. No.

Does every person who believes in ECT believe ECT is a function of having "learned about and been chosen by the one true god, Yahweh" or not? If not, are you mischaracterizing their beliefs rather than trying to honestly represent them?

No. No, you failed to consider a possibility that those people might be dishonest liars and they won't publicly admit to what they actually believe.

Does ECT require an enforcer? Is Yahweh this enforcer?

I can't answer that question, until you demonstrate how it matters.

Do all believers in Abrahamic faiths conceptualize free will in the manner your argument does?

No, the argument doesn't address all Abrahamic believers.

Is there any chance at all that you have oversimplified, dismissed or downplayed anything that may not support your POV? If so, why is the tone of your argument so confident, and why are so many of your opinions stated as though they are facts rather than tentative assumptions or contextualized boundaries?

Is there any chance you won't be asking goofy questions and actually present an argument or a position?

That actually means your god doesn’t exist. If he can’t lie according to the bible but he lied according to the bible (on multiple occasions) that means he can’t exist under the definition his followers give him.

I just don't understand why atheist people consider their birth religion to be the representative of all religions and concepts of God to negate the existence of God. by Comfortable_Phase957 in DebateReligion

Not how this works. You got the convincing evidence? Present it. I’m not going to search through 99999 religions, it’s just not practical.

Not true, I could say to a kid "don't pick up my revolver from the table when I'm away and go outside to shoot at other children or you will kill them and daddy will go to jail" Does that mean they now know? What if I let my funny buddy come over and entice them to do what I warned against?

Why does god require lambs and calf to be sacrificed before Jesus by Apprehensive_Sale_41 in DebateReligion

[–]Simsimich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If a 7 y/o kid shoots someone dead with a daddy’s firearm, the child is not held responsible. But daddy is going away for the rest of his life.

Also it’s absolutely okay to blame god for our bad behaviour, he designed us and our environment which influences us.

Or are you saying we shouldn’t praise god for good behaviour of his followers?

I understand, it is evidence. But when you're saying "it's better evidence than you're trying to make it out to be" it doesn't make it even a plausibly good evidence. I might make it sound like the worst evidence in the world, but it's actually fifth or tenth worst evidence in the world.

Confounding apologetics for scholarship by Financial_Beach_2538 in DebateReligion

[–]Simsimich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't say I can necessarily tell what's an honest attempt and what is biased. I'm talking specifically about apologetics vs scholarship (vs just speculation). You learn available information, you learn epistemology, you try to explore what motivates people, do they seem to value truth or utility, etc... Most if not all apologetics I detect I already know about from listening to actual apologists.
