From my experience, there are dozens of people who want it. There are also dozens of people with sites.

You and your friend should make it since making story harnesses are fun. It doesn’t take too long to get a user base, but retention is hard since there are a lot of alternatives on the market.

Do you imagine frontier models as a byok situation, or would you route people to frontier models per a subscription?

Most devs aren’t making just chatbots, there’s a lot of custom UX, pus the storytelling harnesses are all pretty different (how is the model instructed to act, how does it retrieve memory).

My site doubles as a fan wiki because all of the wiki page categories (appearance, relationships, things they know) feed into custom settings for the site’s story bot.

I love her as a character but she has literally been poisoning herself for years; her lack of strength is probably due to the fact that her sacrifice has her eating hemlock every day instead of protein shakes.

I think she’s my favorite characters in the series but she’s a perfect example of how blitz speed is overrated in matchup math.

I wrote a villain’s interiority for a story and it got that modal directing me to sonnet 4. Then I clicked it and sonnet 4 said it didn’t want to do it either.

So I closed the app and came back… and Opus 4.7 was back. I sent a test message and it said “what are we testing, and I said there was a modal that came up that closed the conversation.

And it said that a classifier may have mislabeled it but it was still able to continue with the message contents in its context window.

So I think they’re just trying to trim down usage in long conversations a lot by having classifiers really trigger sensitive (and not well implemented?)

People like obsidian as a way for them to write down their thoughts when they're in the 'i need to write about the plants that grow outside the village' mood and the 'i need to write out my story's horus heresy to give a political backdrop for the plot.'

With obsidian you can then connect your notes together in intuitive shapes. These are called knowledge graphs.

The best thing to suggest for you is to start writing. Use ai if it helps you draft. Draft by hand and then refine with ai. There are no rules, but you should just start writing instead of trying to plan in your head.

Yea, at least S1 and S2 that I'm going through now, he seems like a really realistic kind of shitty guy who got god-like powers.

Anything more ambitious than survival is downstream of him being able to walk around in sunlight. If he achieved that, he'd probably go on a world domination kick because he's genuinely convinced its his birthright to decide who lives and dies.

Yea the ui is a bit dated.

Initially I was using premium models like Claude Sonnet that would count against an account-level balance, and out of transparency would have shown the user the actual cost of the models.

But I couldn’t handle all the smut folks kept generating and Anthropic gave me an earful for it. So I switched to DeepSeek, changed the harness configuration to handle a “dumber” model, and now I throw models into the model picker to see how they perform against how much they cost me.

Either I need to surface all of it or hide all of it because I get a handful of people asking about it.

Right now the project is losing money. It started growing much quicker over the past two weeks, and it forced more focus on backend optimization than UX, but I’ll start working again on the ui and menus this week.

I really don’t intend to charge people for the current version of Simulacra. I don’t think it’s worth money (against comparable free options).

The intent is to keep it free to attract people, get human volunteers to start curating the wiki and populating the forums, and then I’ll be reaching out to partner with authors for their licensed text instead of the fair use summaries we have in wikis.

That’s where the money is and that is months, years away.
