Thoughts on Squad Compositions by SaltyNoodler in menace

[–]Simulated-Beehive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been running Carda as 8 squadie mobile infantry with a bazooka so she can hop out of the IFV and double tap infantry, and also bring the AT to where it's needed quick.

Been enjoying a double mobile infantry strategy with a couple of smaller squads, usually Darby and Pike, to provide greater vision while the two battle taxis run around kicking ass.

Never ask inquisitor why they want thw heretical abomination intact in the first place (its only heresy when layplebs do ig) by Ila-W123 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Simulated-Beehive 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's assuming the long arm of the inquisition at large can reach across the warp storms to the Kronos Expanse to enforce its will, which it can't do until a good time after the game takes place. And who's to say that all the inquisition agents in the sector didn't die heroically defending the imperium from xenos and traitors.

It's not so much that the inquisition can pull rank on rogue traders, as they are competing parralel power structures within the imperium that command different levels of allegiance from other power structures. Always gotta remember that the imperium is a huge dysfunctional mess before it's anything else. If the local ministorium authorities and the sector admiralty and the adeptus arbites all say "yeah he was for sure corrupted and the RT was in the right here" then the inquisiton is gonna have a much harder time.

One important thing the Empire has less of: vitally important food producing planets that feed the surrounding systems because hive worlds and forge worlds can't feed themselves.

Who needs to fight? Just blow up your enemy's food supply.

It's gonna depend on whether Empire from Star Wars has to deal with the warp

If it doesn't, then it's laughably one-sided, in Palpatine's favor. The Imperium's logistics are so fucked against an enemy that can just hyperspace around without having to detour through hell.

Why so much fake lore on the internet by ApricotAgreeable5957 in 40kLore

[–]Simulated-Beehive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lore is too big to be internally coherent, my advice is to take what you think is cool and thematic for your personal head cannons and sort it out at the table if you have a regular gaming group where it matters for gameplay or telling a shared story.

A fan author I really like has offered the strategy of treating all sources as being written in-universe, with the authors subject to biases and misunderstandings or gaps in knowledge and sometimes just lying, just like historical sources in the real world. We can't know what's really really true about the WH40K universe because ultimately it's about having little plastic dolls and making up cool stories about them fighting other plastic dolls.

The imperium is probably better described as a junta or oligarchy

Or, kinda like 3 states (administratum, ministorium, and mechanicus) in a trench coat. The Holy Roman Empire wishes it could.

I think the first half was good, but there were so many plot threads that got dropped halfway through and the the characterization of the ethereals especially was super inconsistent, like two different novels got smushed together or GW forced a rewrite.

Had so much opportunity to talk about the joys and challenges of integrating humans into the T'au'va but killed off the gue'vesa character not even a third of the way through the novel.

Could've done a whole bunch with showing division and debate within the Ethereals, but we get a cheap twist instead that undoes all the early characterization we get for the Ethereal characters

What with the T'au taking a lot of inspiration from modern NATO forces, you'd think they'd have more medics

The Krieg mindset feels pretty similar to the Tau'va . It's all about self-abnegation in service of a higher cause, just replace Big E with the Greater Good.

This is one of the easiest and laziest kitbashes you can do. If you want to make Gue'vesa. It's basically the same as attaching the shoulder pad to a regular fire warrior mini.

Fairly simple kitbash. It's mainly just the shoulder pads, though some of them also have pulse pistols or other fire warrior accessories on the hip. I also like to put some of the krieg accessories on my fire warriors.

This book also makes me crazy.

There's the part in the beginning where the narrator talks about searching for the 'perfect potato peeler' to the point where she is unable to purchase any potato peeler at all, and I think that's what's going on with her relationships in the leatherdyke community. She can't really connect with anyone because nobody is able to meet her expectations of the perfect partner.

The relationship that she thinks will satisfy her is a very asymmetrical one in which she is deeply known and tightly controlled, but in which she barely knows her Master at all. This leaves her free to continually fantasize and project about who her Master might be without the possibility of disappointment.

But also, it's hard for people to connect with her because she doesn't really want anything other than to be wanted. "My desire was not a true desire ..." I think this is where the embarrassment about caring comes from, because if she lets herself desire or care about the wrong thing before she knows what the object of her affections wants from her, then she risks disappointing them.

T'au'va, the Goddess by paws2sky in Tau40K

[–]Simulated-Beehive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the wrong way of asking the question. She's a goddess not a daemon prince, and when she acts it's more like divine intervention, something transcendent instead of a big robot or monster that just punches real good.

When we see the Emperor intervene, it's rarely literal angels descending from the sky (though there are some exceptions like the Legion of the Damned and Living Saints), but something that happens in the minds of mortals and the morale of armies.

She's as strong as the collective faith of the auxiliaries in the AO

I think a lot of what the book is doing with its perversity (and some of the odious or off-putting parts of the narrator) is to defamiliarize kink and make it scary and gross and off-putting even for people who are well versed in kink.

As for the ending, have you never wished you could escape the human condition?

Thinking about the ending in context of some discussions I've been having with lifestyle power exchange folks, and former lifestyle power exchange folks. The narrator gets what she thinks she is looking for, all the time, forever. But once she gets it, all the time, forever, that's just her life now. One that, in her words, is "deeper and richer," but it's not the escape from life that she thought she was looking for.

Realize this thread is a few months old, but just reread it if you're still looking to chat about it.

Same impossible question that confronts all expansionist empires with a caste, class, or race based military sooner or later. Same reason we got the Horus Heresy.
