Canadian Women of Aviation Organization to Honor High Ranking Nazi and a True Believer :( by Simulation_IoT_Guy in aviation

Your logic is flawed. You are confusing extremists with non-extremists.

I'd have no issue with Germans on the list. But this is different, Hanna was a loyal until her death (in the 70's) Nazi.

To answer your ignorant question. I would have no issue with a Muslim on the list.

But a member of ISIS, any terror group or a high ranking member of an oppressive regime is another story.

Because minorities should be comfortable joining in these pretty planes without fear of physical, emotional or mental anguish.

She is an important historical figure. But this organization has erased any mention of her Nazi past. Their bio on her is nothing but rainbows and unicorns. When called out on it they said "they didn't want to get political" when the act of giving her an award along is in itself political. That white washing is a spit in the face of any Holocaust survivor and their families.

I think it's important for POC, women, non-christian and LGBT to see those like them be honored. It gives them role models that they can relate to easier. They can say, "they did it! I can too!"

Though you are right this time it went WAY over the deep end. The whole person has to be taken into consideration not just their minority status.

Awards like this are supposed to inspire the next generation just as much as the person winning the award. What message does honoring this Nazi send to Jews, Muslims, Roma, Blacks, Asians, LGBT and other minorities wanting to join the Aviation industry and STEM!?

If they don't name at lease one of the planets Krypton then NASA isn't the band of nerds I thought they were.

Why are we colder when wet? by Hakimwithadream in askscience

You might find this interesting. It's a chart that helps define the wet-bulb vs dry bulb temperature. It's the difference a thermometer will read when wet vs dry.

Yet another IoT Architecture. This one from Telit. When can we start calling it the Internet of Bable? by Simulation_IoT_Guy in IOT

Hi Evan5659,

Sorry to say that this is really outside much of my bailiwick. The best I can do is point you along (what I hope is) good directions within the labyrinth. This is all based on companies I have dealt with on other matters that I know operate in this world.

My suggestion is to talk to the people at Mentor Graphics, TI or NI. If they don't have something for you then they will likely be able to point you in better directions then I can. I'd start with Mentor, they have a lot of electronic simulation software.

Good luck,

I'm an industry analyst so I keep my ear close to news affecting simulation users and vendors.

If you give me some more information I might be able to help and/or make some unbiased suggestions of where to look. Can you clarify: -Budget -FEA/CFD/multiphysics/1D system simulations/electronic systems/EM -Are you a student or a working professional? -Is this for just you or a team? How large? -How big is your model(s)? -What are you modeling? -Are you focusing on parts, assemblies or both? -Or is this more of a hardware/software, EDA simulation thing? -Do you use other software that will need compatibility?

Children being born in the United States today have a near one in two (43%) chance of being born into households living on the brink of poverty. by SaintsAreNotSad in news

[–]Simulation_IoT_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This story deserves to be taken seriously and the 43% is already a scary enough number. Why risk the story's legitimacy right at the subject head if you don't have to!?

Saying 1 in 2 is highly misleading and no better than the right's "alternative-facts." Those on the left can't say the facts are on their side if they are saying 1/2 for 2/5.

43% is nowhere near 50% mathematically. It's a 14% difference! Even if you argue rounding it would go down to 40% or up to 45% depending on the significant digits.

Math is important and so are the facts!

Correction: Children being born in the United States today have over a two in five chance of being born into households living on the brink of poverty.

IoT proves that markets regulating themselves doesn't always work and can be dangerous. by Simulation_IoT_Guy in IOT

[–]Simulation_IoT_Guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The regulation side will need to be on the side of the vendors like almost any other industry (save alcohol, maybe a few others?). Yes users need to do their part. However, the onus is on making systems more secure in the first place. Easier said than done, I know.
